Opeth at the HOB in New Orleans, this past Saturday night. Openers were Baroness, who do what I call a progressive grindcore. I'm not a big grindcore guy, but Baroness impresses me. They are a lot more raw live then studio (their second album, while exceptional, comes across as produced a bit too hygienically for my tastes), and their talent is obvious. They blasted out a quick 30 minute set I believe without any pause inbetween songs, at one point even going into a weird "Space" like place that made me feel like I was at an 80s Grateful Dead show. The lead singer looks like one of the Geico cavemen. Anyway they were awesome, I'm expecting big things from them in the coming years. High On Fire came next, and put on a great show, but were upstaged by Baroness. Straight ahead three piece sludge thrash, pretty badass but the least focused band of the night. And then came Opeth. Ohhhhh shit. Wow wow wow. My expectations for this show were very high, and they were met and exceeded. The most outstanding thing about Opeth, and I can't emphasize this enough, is that Akerfeldt just stands very still throughout all his growls and singing. Just very still. See, I'm used to seeing a Phil Alsemo type metal lead singer going apeshit all over the stage. I couldn't help but think of Jay-Z. Because Jay-Z was the first rapper who figured out you didn't have to yell to be a badass, because it was the quiet talking bad guys in the movies who always had the most power. The power and grace emanating from Akerfeldt, throughout all his poise and motionlessness, was just uncanny. His between song banter was dignified and incredibly charming. If you haven't noticed I developed a BIT of a heterosexual mancrush on him. Another notable thing is that Opeth has no problem playing the old shit. They played more stuff they wrote 5-10 years ago then the new stuff, which the audience really appreciated. Having said that, the audience collectively shit themselves when the humming started for "The Lotus Eater", track three off of Watershed, in what might have been the most badass song of the night. Focus, discipline, grace, perfection. That was Opeth. GO SEE THIS BAND LIVE!

Interesting! Keep in mind my source on this is random people on Vinyl Asylum. YMMV.

I can't speak from personal experience, since I haven't tried any isolation techniques on my 1200, but the general consensus I pick up with regards to the mounting is similar to what Torpedo has suggested: place the TT on a high mass surface. However, many report that using the sorbothane feet sold by KAB completely deadens the sound, so vibration absorbing feet might not be a good idea. Currently my TT sits on a dedicated (but cheap and light) wood table. It does fine, but I've often thought of buying a thicker amp-stand affair for it, maybe with an additional wood slab for the 1200 to rest on. Then again, it seems you can never go wrong with a wall shelf, which is what I've been thinking a lot of recently.

My dad owned a regional commercial bakery for most of his life, but the actual hands-on baking is still one of his passions. You and him would have a time talking. I'd be curious to see if you could whoop my cousin Donny's sourdough. he has a sour that is a few decades old and is the bomb. to faust3d: when I owned the O2 thats just how I wore mine. The crease in the pad was just in line with the rim of my glasses.

Whoops, I was just being a smartass. This SVS sub is huge and costs ~$70 to ship. just grab my address from your rolodex.

old school abercrombie flannel is great. Makes me want to go digging in my closet to see if I still have mine. I also had a pair of cords from a&f about 10 ten years that were awesome.

in the spirit of naamanf's generosity, I'm going to start an SVS sub loaner program.

I'm going, but I have no idea where I'm going to sleep. I might end up having to get a room that is a good drive away. Anyway I put in for the lottery, and will try my chances with ticketmaster, but I've also already paid for a broker ticket from ticketsnow.com for Friday, but who the hell knows if that will be any good. I just really really really want to be there for that first night. The place you want to see DBT is at the 40 watt in Athens, GA. With Jason Isbell. amazing show, one of the loudest damn concerts I've ever been to. yeah you go on and lecture Dan on Phish. My last concert was Phil & Friends with the Allman Brothers Band at The Infamous Wharf in Orange Beach, AL. Phil opened and put on a solid show, but his sound man should be fired and replaced with whoever did ABB's. When Derek came out to jam with Phil his guitar sounded tinny, bright, and horrible. And the keys and bass were hard to hear as well. ABB sounded smooth and marvelous, with Oteil's bass shaking my chest, and the organs and guitars all had that midrange magic. Very refreshing to hear such awesome sound at a show. Watching Warren and Derek swap licks was just too cool. Derek's sheer technical ability is pretty awe inspiring, even if he doesn't have Haynes' soul and experience. Next up, Opeth in New Orleans, a week from today.

MacHeads- Impending MacBook Purchase
postjack replied to JBLoudG20's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
The exact same thing happened with the one Mac I owned, I think the line was called the iBook line. I loved the computer when I had it, but one month out of the 1 year warranty my screen went black. Took it to a Mac repair center: faulty lobo, $800 repair cost. I told apple to stick it up their ass. This was years ago. I'm of course now willing to own an apple again, but if I do I'll buy the extended warranty. -
I'd love to go on the Buffalo list.
