Is it possible to use Mobile Me to sync my calendar if I don't own a Mac, or Microsoft Outlook? I was kind of hoping I could just have everything I key into my iPhone calendar go to the magical me.com cloud in the sky, but it looks like if I try to sync my iPhone without first having synced with Outlook or iCal, it will just zap everything on my iPhone Calendar. Is this the case?

he quit drinking a few years ago, and his shows have been pretty solid since then. he allows tapers to patch through the soundboard, so tons of high quality lossless live shows are available free at the Ryan Adams Archive. check 'em out.

fatigue from Beyer DT990s - do I need a new amp or different cans?

right on, looks like you know your way around the world of mastering. have you ever heard an HD650? -
fatigue from Beyer DT990s - do I need a new amp or different cans?
postjack replied to acidbasement's topic in Headphones
Not sure exactly what metal you are listening to, but if its modern metal, I'd say the problem is probably more in the mastering then an issue with your system. Having said that, the DT990 do tend towards the bright. A change of cans would bring about a positive change much more then a change of amplification. But I am strongly feeling the problem is with your source material. Could you name a few specific albums which are bright to you? -
I really want to hear the TSM-MM some day, sounds like a pretty magical speaker. So I've tried the Diament 1/3rd method before, but not in this room and not with any type of room treatment, so I decided to give it a shot. The method is outlined on this page, but basically the idea for the speaker setup is: 1) Distance between the speakers, measured from the inside edges, is 1/3rd the length of the wall behind them, which in my case is the short wall. 2) Distance between the speakers and the wall behind them, measured from the front edge to the wall, is 1/3rd the length of the side walls, which in my case is the long walls. 3) Distance between the speakers and listening position is just beyond the width between speakers found on step 1. My room is 14' by 17', so this puts my speakers at 4.66' apart from each other, 5.66' from the back wall, and myself at maybe about 7' from the speakers. Per Barry's suggestions, I used significantly more toe-in then I'm used to, trying to aim the speakers towards the center of the wall behind my listening chair. In the past I have dreaded to use too much toe-in, because less toe-in means less brightness, at least it does with the Quads. I think part of the problem of my previous toe-in philosophy is that I would use toe-in to try to compensate for brightness caused by the room, so I'd end up sacrificing midrange purity and imaging for less brightness. So imagine my surprise when I cranked up the speakers and experienced much less brightness then I thought I would! And a very pleasant bass response as well, which I really wasn't expecting, since the speakers were pulled much further off the wall then they were before, about double the length they were previously. I listened like this throughout the weekend, but eventually I got to missing the mirror on the left wall (Jacob's advice about the speakers living in the space and the music serving me up in my head), so my always kick ass girlfriend helped me hoist it back up there. For Sunday night's listening session, I draped a heavy blanket over the mirror, and it has achieved the desired effect. Excited by this, I draped another heavy blanket over the TV, and of course I closed the drapes on all the windows. The cumulative result I can only describe as a much more HD650 like sound, which to me is a good thing since I love the HD650. There still some treble excitement going on in the room, but much less. However, it was the final tweak this evening that really wow'ed me the most. I pulled back on the toe-in just a tad, I mean really just a little bit, and when I sat back down and started listening, something pretty amazing happened: the speakers actually kind've disappeared. I've read of the 22Ls that they aren't the kind of speaker that disappears in a room, so I never really expected to be able to pull this off, but it happened. It wasn't a perfect disappearance, but I've always been able to say "yup, thats coming from the right speaker", and this time I couldn't. The soundstage was actually consistent all across the front of me, and projected behind the speakers and above them as well. Let me tell you, it was really, really neat. Lot of Diament going on here, but the album I first played after I noticed my rig's new imaging capability's was Yes "Close to the Edge". It sounded marvelous, huge, and epic, just like it should. I tested a few different albums, but it was really a rip of the Derek Trucks Band "Songlines Live" DVD that convinced me of what I was hearing: drums were big and had impact, same with the bass, but most of all it was Derek's guitar, which sounded exactly like it was coming screaming out of a huge Marshall amp cranked up to 11 and into a mid-size venue. Loud, raw, intense, but not bright or fatiguing, just true. I could really crank up the volume and not at any point wince from the treble. So this is all really good stuff! I know this is like the 100th revelation I've had with my speaker setup, but I have a lot of fun playing around with them, and I do appreciate all the feedback and encouragement I get from the community. I will be purchasing some sort of treatments in the coming year. The ASC stuff seems more versatile, but pricey compared to the Echo Busters products.

sounds like a pretty big room. the trouble for me comes in that my den is the largest room in my house, but since it is a living space I'm can't just throw out the couch, TV stand, etc to make more room to space my speakers out more. i mean its in the realm of possibility for me to do so but I'm not going to. I just experimented some and managed to get a couple more feet between the speakers, but it feels funny because then the left speaker is just about parallel with the end of the couch. i can't help but think this is a bad thing. the sound did exactly what I thought it would, which is expand the soundstage horizontally, which is nice, but it didn't really effect the tonal balance like the good el doctor de espanol was speaking of. I think I just have too many things in the room exciting the sound, so when I crank up the volume to really feel that bass pedal in "Can Utility and the Coastliners", the treble just gets to harsh.
-
So pull the speakers forward a bit and separate them by a couple of feet? I will try this next time I listen and report back here.
-
When I was doing my lil' MS Paint drawing up above, I specifically wondered which HC smartass would point out the speaker size issue first.
-
My speakers are 5 ft apart, tweeter to tweeter, and I currently sit 12 ft away. When I move the chair closer, bass response isn't as exciting, i.e. I don't get that rolling across the room bass "feel", and midrange isn't quite as smooth and inviting, particularly in the male vocals area. When I took down the large mirror on the left wall, not only did the highs smooth considerably, but the soundstage jumped WAY out into the left, it was very surprising. For the first time it appeared that certain instruments and vocals weren't coming just out of the left speaker, but out of the area to the left of and the front left of the speaker. There is still a slight pull to the right when it comes to the bass and the lower midrange, which I think is due to the large opening in the right wall. Its possible that after some treatments, or other furniture/decoration rearrangements, I might be able to move the chair back into the room some more.

sweet. when i read on the web site they cancel the "megaphone effect" i knew immediately what they were talking about. seems like a no brainer purchase, just need to save the dough.
-
The speakers are perpendicular to the TV viewing area because that way they are firing down the room longways. I have a totally separate and very cheap 5.1 setup for the TV. Yeah, the windows are tough, but I'll experiment some more and see what I can do. For the fireplace I was thinking maybe one of the Double Busters (absorption and diffusion). Also maybe some Corner Busters for the ceiling corners.

How does a beta22 compare to tubes?
postjack replied to veloaudio's topic in Headphone Amplification
oh sure man, its fun to ask these kinds of questions on forums, especially when you are already excited about an incoming product. I loved my beta but really it ended up being too much amp for me in my now humble headphone rig. -
So I started reading the Echo Busters site a little bit, and reading about other people's room treatment experiences. First, I moved my listening chair almost into the foyer, which is weird, but bass response improved. Second, I pulled down the huge mirror that is on the side wall in front of my left speaker. Low and behold, I never realized how excitable my room was before. Treble, particularly on electric guitar, smoothed out considerably. Since I've once again been shown how simple room adjustments can make dramatic differences, I'm shelving the new amp idea for the immediate future. I may invest in some Echo Busters or Bass Busters. My room is a hot mess though. Here is a sketch I just did in paint to show y'all what I'm workin' with: One thing though, the left wall is further in then I drew it, the couch is much closer to the left speaker. The red squares are windows, and you can see I have two large openings: one into the dining room on the right, and one into the foyer on the back wall. You can see I have my chair now backed up a little bit into the foyer. Previously it was maybe 3-4 feet forward.

How does a beta22 compare to tubes?
postjack replied to veloaudio's topic in Headphone Amplification
compared to most OTL type tube amps I owned, the beta22 was more open, fast, immediate, and intense. however, at no point have I heard a beta22 be bright. its just neutral, clear, and powerful. sorry for the audio magazine language. -
and sometimes 1 + 1 = 3 and teenagers have a baby.

kelvinz, just because your source and another source share a common DAC chip doesn't mean they sound the same. terminology wise it can get confusing: usually when we say "DAC" we are talking about the whole shebang, like the entire unit, not just the chip. I suggest you start researching USB DACs in your pricerange.

nothing that I know of. Really I just looked up and saw the triangles were back, so I attempted posting again. voila.
-
test. looks like we are back in business, I'm posting this from FF. My triangles are back as well.
-
Here's another weird thing: on the User CP > Log Out bar, all my little down triangles are gone in firefox. For example, when I click on Chat Room, it just takes me straight into the Chat Room, I have no drop down menu giving me the option of opening the Chat Room in a separate window. The down triangles are present in IE but not FF.
