  1. argh I'm still not needle drop ready at Kirby St. hearing the band open up their concert with the album in it's entirety bonded me to CtS. The energy from the crowd during "Divinations" was outstanding. Many a cocktail went flying in the air from the depths of the pit.
  2. Al - I hope it does, set me back $45. The regular CD version isn't super awesome sonically, but at least it's not the hot mess their previous albums are. The 45 is a different mastering, so we'll see.
  3. Mastodon - Crack the Skye 2x45 deluxe vinyl
  4. with graphs?
  5. what's the f5 represent? used to be the save key on old sierra games.
  6. yeah i have my shit everywhere. shelves, drawers, dining room table, the corner. i still always lose my tape measure for days at a time.
  7. welcome jpelg!
  8. to bad you don't get that cool brass puck with the cheap DVD-roms.
  9. Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears Opened for Robert Randolph Thursday. Great sound, one part James Brown, one part good ole fashioned rock n roll, and just a smudge of indie flair. I spoke with the guitarist for a while (he was happy to see me buying the vinyl) and he told me Jim Eno produced it, all analog from recording to pressing. Great sound, great music. Slayer - Reign in Blood Original Def Jam vinyl pressing, absolutely mint, played once by the original owner. I didn't actually buy this, some guy on a Phish board mailed it to me for free, didn't even charge for shipping. I told him he could get $50-60 for it on eBay but he sent it anyway. pretty awesome act of generosity.
  10. I'd like to take this opportunity to again harp on the fact that high end audio companies can't make an SACDP with a transport that is worth a shit. krell, cary, sony, and even the not ad popular McIntosh units all have transports with notorious fail rates. and the solution is always to release an updated model costing thousands more dollars retail. the transport in oppo DVD players is more reliable then most high end crap.
  11. I would love to have a large kindle for my textbooks, so long as the textbooks were at least half the price of their physical counterparts. this is not going to happen though. I don't care about selling my books.
  12. nice on the Gojira. would love to catch them. in new Orleans right now for death cab. listening to the opened as we speak.
  13. you mean seven and in love?
  14. by sleeper I mean boring.
  15. I think Sounds has some great moments in it, but some sleeper tracks as well. it's like a mixture of Exciter/Ultra and the pre-Black Celebration post-Clarke output. I definitely like the analog synths, and at least to my ears it sounds like it's not brickwall mastering. warm and open.
  16. yup, would look great next to one.
  17. "The Grobe" has one of my favorite lyrics of all time: "sometimes the ones you hold so close can make you cry / but it's a pain in the ass to let 'em go" Heaven and Hell - The Devil You Know
  18. Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue
  19. Believe it or not, the ear can eventually adjust to a source downgrade, at least in my experience. That is, if one considers going from the 840C to Denon DA-500 a sufficient enough downgrade. At first the midrange of the DA-500 seemed a little hot and thin, but my ear has accepted this and adjusted to it. I can still tell it's there sometimes, but it doesn't bother me. But I bet going back to something like an 0404 would be difficult or impossible to adjust to.
  20. to be fair, Dio's voice on this recording sounds a little etched even with the convolver off. I guess the recording gear of the day couldn't fully capture his greatness.
  21. I'm trying this right now. Having never heard an SA5000, its hard to measure the convolver's level of success. I will say the overall soundstage has shrunk to the size of a Mardi Gras dubloon (more Grado like), and the upper midrange and treble is a little etched, and there is less bass. Sounds unnatural.
  22. fuck yeah! is it any good? i hope they tour in the US. and just when I put on: Dio - Holy Diver
  23. ladies and gentlemen, we have another n_maher win.
  24. That was really easy. Props to Sennheiser for a very end-user friendly design. 1. Pull off the pads 2. Snap off the headband 3. Pull off the grill 4. Pull out the bottom part of the headband ring attachment thingy. 5. Put in the new driver (Sennheiser calls it System 300R, and system better describes it, since its a driver in a housing with the input jacks for the senn headphone cable connectors) 6. Reassemble. Interesting side note: the drivers I received are the newer, white drivers, and the old drivers were the black ones. Whether the drivers are truly different other then the color is a subject best left to one hundred million HF threads, but the difference in sound to me seems readily apparent. Bass has tightened, and both treble and midrange are slightly more forward. Of course this could just be that we're dealing with brand new drivers. So without further ado: Moo monkey moo monkey make modern milliseconds Grrrrrrrr gravy grrrrrr gravy get get go ghost untz untz untz untz untz untz untz night nipple netherworld --- volume be loud blowin' my fool head. peace i'm out.
  25. daaaaaaaaamn!!
