  1. yessir, and in conjunction with Nugget Audio we've created the world's first Attenuation Defeater, which finally makes any attempt at external volume control futile. also: LOL at reks.
  2. shit, I'm making a portable amp with NO volume control. gunna be thin son.
  3. twitter i don't get. but facebook has been wonderful for keeping in touch with friends. so much easier to do a quick wall post then feel obligated to have a fifteen minute discussion on the phone. then when the friend comes in town and you get together, its not quite as awkward. you have things to talk about because you've been monitoring each others status updates and whatnot. i also like it for local events, concerts, etc., because I can see if any old friends are attending, and we can make plans to meet up and enjoy the show together.
  4. awesome! let me know if you end up with any Dio, Smiths, or Maiden you need to let go of.
  5. Two Thursdays ago: Robert Randolph and the Family Band. Only sold a few hundred tickets to a thousand plus person theater, but they might as well have been playing a sold out MSG crowd. Tons of heart, tons of fun. Like being in black people church but drinks are being served. A week ago Saturday: Death Cab for Cutie. I am a passing Death Cab fan; I think "Plans" is a masterfully written and well mastered album. Some of their other stuff is pretty good as well. A friend of mine whose opinion I respect greatly said that even though he knows Death Cab is not a corporate manufactured indie band, they still came across that way to him live. He thought maybe he had something to do with the lead singer's pivoting. I wouldn't go so far as to 100% agree with that, but I will say there was nothing super special about the show. It was nice hearing the songs I enjoyed, but I guess I've come to expect more out of a live show. Or maybe the music just isn't my bag? This past Friday: Jimmy Herring Band. Oh yeah. With Oteil Burbridge (Bass), Jeff Sipe (drums), Greg Osby (sax), and Scott Kinsey (keys). A really great night of nuJazz. Everyone was happy to be there but it was obvious some of the hippies really really wanted to dance, and this music simple isn't danceable. We got there early and I ended up right on the railings only a few feet from the musicians. I'd never been this close to Herring and it was a thrill. Same with Oteil (greatest rock bassist alive today, IMO), and Jeff Sipe is a trip to watch! Best show I've seen since Hampton, and I forgot to buy a t-shirt.
  6. yay! happy birthday matt! i don't own the 840 sea anymore!
  7. uh-huh.
  8. uh-huh.
  9. Pleasantly surprised at the very high quality of this record. Mastered by Bernie Grundman, pressed at Pallas in Germany. While the mix isn't audiophile by any means, the mastering is wonderful. I think I'm going to have to move the headphones and headphone amp into the den to get a listen to this on the HD650. It's a little bright but that might just be the limitations of the AT440MLa. In other news, I am using the phono section of the 99 Pre. Initially it was a huge disappointment with my Ortofon cartridge, but it sounds much better with the AT440MLa. It might be that the Ortofon + 99 Pre just had too much leanness, while the AT440MLa brings some fun and dynamics to the picture.
  10. and the people who have heard the phone most certainly do. its going to be a great piece of gear, I have no doubt. and true greatness can't be over hyped.
  11. one of my favorites. eggland's best free range/organic with green pepper and purple onion. i like to pan sear the green pepper and purple onion with a little salt and pepper until they get clearish, then add butter and dump the eggs (with hot sauce) over the top.
  12. Q: Is there any non-dessert food that isn't made better by onion? A: No. Q: Is it ever possible to add too much onion? A: No! specifically I'm a red/purple onion fan, but I thought we'd leave the thread open to the entire onion universe.
  13. yes, I would steal them.
  14. AND JACOB IS COMING.
  15. yeah, it doesn't look like it's financially feasible this year. a trip to LA is expensive.
  16. I honestly have not had much success reading on my iPhone through Stanza. For some reason my upper back gets all tight and stressed at work when I try to for any significant length of time.
