  1. I will take them. Someone on this crazy forum must stand up for full size dynamics!
  2. The Dead Weather, last weekend in New Orleans. Awesome show. Jack definitely put his White Stripes money into this one. All custom instruments, gloss white with gold trim, except the gorgeous drum set which was silver trim. Most of the cables were coiled, like old telephone cords. The whole band was great, and switched up instruments pretty regularly. The real star was Alison Bonhart (sp?) the lead vocalist, who was out of this world. She was cool and sexy, and also had that your friends divorced mom who drinks and smokes all the time thing going on? Like "so what are you boys up to tonight" kind of thing. The way she walked across the monitors in her high heels was intriguing. Last night, Allman Brothers and Widespread Panic at the BJCC in Birmingham, AL, where I'm sitting at a friends house right now. Music started at 7:10, and ended around 12:20am. Long ass night of music. Brothers opened, a smoking set which included a Little Martha > Mountain Jam > Smokestack Lightening (with Col. Bruce Hampton on vocals!) > drums > Mountain Jam, and an encore of Blackhearted Woman > The Other One jam. And Panic certainly rose to the occasion; its Panic in Bham and we knew they wouldn't disappoint. Opener of The Take Out > Diner > Rock let the crowd know we were in for some vintage Panic, no screwing around. Later a massive Slippin' Into Darkness with Warren and Quinones. Greg Allman came out for a Dylan cover, Just Like a Woman. Encored with Expiration Day, a Vic Chesnutt tune that is really special to me, and a perfectly executed Goin' Out West. A great time was had by all. The crowd was partying its ass off but with a minimum of drama, at least from my perspective. About to hop in the car and head back to Mobile. This macbook is nice!
  3. awesome impressions, thank you!
  4. so any further impressions on the PSBs?
  5. mr. chalk, would love to hear your impressions of the Oppo's hi-rez performance.

  7. hagtech works fine for me. I bet now that you got a fancy college education you think you're better then your old man, is that it?
  8. awesome midbass is such a Grado strong suit. As much as I love the RS-1, I would sometimes find myself disappointed with its lack of punch on certain tracks. Then you had the MS2i, which had plenty of punch but was too smooth, not enough treble energy. The HF-1 was really the best compromise I found, though it lacked the resolution and soundstage of the RS-1. But now the HF-2 is king of the Johns. More resolving then the HF-1, with that kick ass midbass, perfect treble energy, and happily a bit more deep bass, which is what really wraps up the package nicely. Still would love to experience a PS1000 in my own rig with my own tunes one day. Or even at a meet where I had more time and my own tunes (didn't get a real good listen at Canjam because someone unwittingly was fucking with the volume control of the 307A, and the ensuing blast into my ears made me want to remove all headphones for a while. I never got back around to the PS1000).
  9. www.ezsniper.com used them for 4 years. it's 10 cents a snipe. it's the only way I bid.
  10. i'm gettin' 'em.
  11. dusty: every other day is fine, with the occasional two day break.
  12. Glenn beck and Keith olbermann both suck, as does the huffington post. it is difficult to decide where to get ones news. I stopped watching television news altogether after last falls election, except for the often insightful Daily Show. the 24 tv hour new cycle is all alarmist infotainment bullshit that makes otherwise rational people argue about the merits of the personalities involved. for my news I currently listen to NPR and read various online sources. I have recently been enjoying economist.com. it's snootiness appeals to my snootiness, it's short articles appeal to my 21st century short attention span, and it's mostly anonymous writers who speak with a single editorial voice speaks to my opinion that entirely too much emphasis is put on individual news personalities. regarding organic food: I'm a slow/organic food advocate. I buy what organic and local food I can afford. to say my dollar doesn't have an impact on what foods are available on the market is horseshit of the highest order. just go to walmart and check out the crazy array of organic products they offer, as opposed to two years ago. milk, eggs, produce, it's great. there are even walmart branded organic products. walmart sells this shit because people like me buy it, because it earns them profit. so in that regard my money makes a difference.
  13. Butthole Surfers was outrageous. These guys are teetering on the brink of acid causalities, but they seem to be walking that line just fine. The biggest surprise to me was the professionalism and musicianship. As chaotic as their music is, none of the playing was sloppy or haphazard. The House of Blues in New Orleans is the most miserable venue I've ever been to, but it is also the venue I've seen most shows at. Having said that, when a show is not heavily attended, its not that bad. I was surprised at how many people were there, considering the Butthole Surfers haven't cut a record in a shade under a decade, but still, the crowd wasn't super thick. I hope nobody showed up to hear them play "Pepper", because as far as I could tell the setlist was pure vintage Butthole, but to be fair I have only a passing familiarity with their body of work. They had two projectors pushing all kinds of bizarre shit on the screen behind them, including live shots of themselves and the crowd. The music was straight up acid punk noise, chaotic and hilarious. About 30 seconds into the opener somebody threw a goddamn box of blue glowsticks from the balcony. A glowstick war at a Butthole Surfers concert ensued. I started laughing my ass off at that point, really set the stage for the rest of the show. At one point Gibby Haynes (lead vocalist) bummed a cigarette off somebody in the front row. During the encore break he gave the fan who bummed him a cigarette a Heineken out of their ice chest. I thought that was a classy move. Later a friend asked me how the show was, and I said it was like Jolly Ranchers all night. Sweet, delicious, cherry Jolly Ranchers. Awesome. We were standing behind the soundboard and I copied the setlist from a sheet of paper laying on it: 22 Going on 23 Cowboy Bob 100 Million Graveyard Some Disute 1401 Suicide Florida Gary Floyd 2 part/tornado hey dust devil x-ray Edgar Negro BBQ Pope Goofy's Concern Blind Man Something Who Was In My Room E: Cherub Fast Song Concubine
  14. thanks! it changed natomatically.
  15. hell yeah a disease for my penis! $50 disease from sex.
  16. well that didn't work. experimenting with tapatalk.
  17. The Fall - Bend Sinister "welcome to U.S., 80s/90s"
  18. Going to see Butthole Surfers tonight in New Orleans. Saw Mike Gordon in Bham last weekend. Did I post that already? Anyway it was a great show in a great venue: Workplay Soundstage/Theatre. I didn't even need my earplugs, very balanced mix. Mike was very friendly and hung around the merch table until everyone got all the autographs and weird Mike conversation they wanted. I got a signed LP.
  19. I use an SVS sub with my 22L floorstanders with success. I just keep the crossover all the way down to the lowest setting (40hz methinks) and the gain just below half. it's not perfect (bass is not completely undirectional, i'd need a second sub or less gain to correct this) but it works for me.

    DEXTER

just finished season one, really loved it. now i will exit this thread until the series is over to avoid any spoilers.
  21. Mike Gordon @ Workplay in Birmingham. Great show, he's got a band that can kick a wide variety of interesting jams. I sometimes found the guitarist wanting, but for the most part he could play. Lots of quirky Gordo numbers along with a few choice covers, most noticeably Radiohead's "15 Steps" and Beatles "She Said, She Said". Mike was in a great mood the whole night, smiling and telling the crowd he loved them and whatnot. After the show he went to the merch table and bullshitted with everyone and signed autographs for anyone who wanted one. I picked up the LP of "The Green Sparrow" and had him sign it, which is fun. Its translucent green vinyl and has not really impressed me sonically. My first time at Workplay, its a great small venue with excellent acoustics. I was surprised that I did not need my ear plugs.
  22. yeah we saw it in 3D in the theater. Delightful flick, I love Gaiman. Methinks it's about new novel time for him? Enough with the short story collections. Burning through Dexter Season 1 with the GF. Really enjoying the show. It's my first Showtime original series. Lacks the polish of the HBO stuff, IMO. the sister character (Deborah) is a bit annoying and her actions are often irrational to me. having said that, the GF really likes her character, says you don't see enough characters like her on TV. *shrugs*
  23. avoid the Genesis reissues. Classical is really where it's at for SACD. Check out the Living Stereo or Mercury Living Presence releases if that's your thing. The Dylan SACDs are good, but I haven't listened to mine much because I'm not a big listening guy. Meaning I love Dylan, just don't play him a lot. The Depeche Mode SACDs are awesome. UK only though. 2nd on the Pixies.
  24. latest listens since I don't post in this thread nearly enough: Mike Gordon - The Green Sparrow Death - Individual Thought Patterns David Bowie - Aladdin Sane (RCA) Lou Reed - Transformer (2006 Japan Mini) been having some pretty satisfying music experiences. I'm happy that after many many years of listening Death is starting to click with me.
  25. well hopefully i'll be back with some phish setlists no one cares about if the rumored Cincinnati shows happen.
