I found a lot to like about the W5000, though it's anemic bass always bothered me.

nice connection! brent was my favorite non-pigpen Dead keyboardist. unfortunately I never got to see the Dead live (the real Dead, not any of its various incarnations since). nice, thanks for calling me out on my shit.

oh yeah, I know you are just playing, but i get similar questions a lot and it always makes me think. The statistics element is the whole "man they haven't played 'peaches en regalia' since 1999, then they bust it out night two at the Garden" thing, or watching the setlists roll in all tour to try and figure out what they will most likely play at upcoming shows, "well we all knew we were getting that Hood tonight". Phish (and the Dead, and other jambands) have a history of playing with their fans, withholding certain songs like a tasty treat, then dropping them into random (or sometimes not so random) setlists, so if you are at the show and hear those first notes kick in you just freaking lose it. Great example: fans wanted Phish to "bust out" Fluffhead (a strangely celebratory song about a guy with a drug addiction) for the longest time before they broke up, but they never did, probably because at this point they had stopped practicing, and Trey was constantly fucked up on opiates, and the band treated their fans with disdain (IMO). So 2004 they break up, ending with a two day festival that was the worst two concerts in Phish history and one of the worst weekends of my life, personally and musically. Trey was so wasted he was nodding out on on stage in the middle of jams. I got sober 9 months later. Fast forward to I believe winter or spring 2007, Trey gets arrested for possession and put through the drug court system, where he gets sober. Fall 2008, Phish announces a reunion run in Hampton, VA. So the internet buzz begins, and the biggest question, as always: "what will they open with?" Speculation immediately trends toward Fluffhead, but anyone who mentions it is totally shot down, because A) it seems way to appropriate and we were all kind of used to Phish doing whatever they hell they wanted at this point, and not really keeping the fans' best interest at heart. Well, I went to the reunion show, and they opened with Fluffhead. They opened with fucking Fluffhead! It was the greatest live music moment of my life. I don't think I will ever feel energy like that at a show ever again. Man, hope you snag some tickets. Melody and I will be present for 12/31 only. We are in the 300s somewhere, but I'm just happy to be in.

i dunno, i like it. its a social thing, and a stat geek thing, but more then anything else its an energy thing. my girlfriend doesn't understand Phish at all, but she understands it is very, very important to me. if live music is my religion, Phish is like the Eucharist. the last concert that really mattered was in 1977? dude I see amazing concerts like twice a month. Thats like listening to "London Calling" and saying "guess I ain't listening to music anymore".

Phish in Charlottesville, VA, this past Saturday, 12/5/09. Right during the beginning of Ya Mar a completely butt naked guy jumped on stage and hugged Trey, then juked the security folks for about twenty seconds before they tackled him. Great show!

nums I've got a long-term loaner cinemag SUT floating around out there somewhere. I think maybe texas marc or texas steve (by way of alaska) has it? If they aren't using it you are welcome to borrow it to see if it works for you. let me know if you are interested and I'll track it down. anumber1 from audio asylum built it, pretty similar to the one bob sells on ebay.

whatever resistor you need to add in to have the loading at 100ohms. there is a calculator at the Hagtech website that figures it out for you. I'm not real strong with DIY stuff so I can't tell you what it is off the top of my head.

I enjoyed it at 100ohms, but currently run it at 10ohms, both sound great. different phono stages though, the 100ohms was the bugle, the 10ohms Quad 99 Pre. 470ohms (bugle) was to bright for me. YMMV.

There was only three people, two beers, and one system, but I'd say the 5th Annual International Postjack Plus Friend Ohio Mini Meet (codename: Raging With Reks) was a complete success. Jacob's speaker rig is truly awesome. Pretty much does everything I'd want a system to do. Tonally my absolute favorite part was the highs. I love it when the highs are perfect, and they were. The soundstage had really awesome depth, and the imaging was great. We went from small scale classical to large scale classical to a bunch of jazz to Rush to that weird guy from Soft Machine doing weird spoken word free form jazz. Although I spent a bit of time telling Jacob to buy a turntable, after my buddy and I left and the experience began to sink in, I started asking myself why I mess around with vinyl when digital sound like the Capitole is out there. So that should tell you how much I truly enjoyed it, as I've never suffered from "vinyl doubt" until this past weekend. Reks was a gracious host, and tons of cool tunes were played and absorbed. The only regret was we didn't have more time to hang. My friend who I brought along has a running knowledge of general consumer audio, but very little exposure to the audiophile religion, would not stop talking about the rig the whole night and the whole way home. He's starting to ask me about prices, and DACs, and all those wonderful things. We'll see where it takes him. thanks again Jacob!
