They seem remarkably similar to the old series. and I agree, no 909 is a shame. the stereo amp is also rated at max power. it's crazy quad would publish max power over rms power. they are pretty though. maybe this will drive old cdp-2 prices down even more.

thanks everyone for contributing, but not actually purchasing raffle tickets. it is a generous way to help your old pal willow acquire more SNB (Shit Nate Built). this way everybody wins!

I was trying to explain to a friend of mine today, who had no real concept of an online community, about my name change, and about how my head-case friends used to call me postie. she said "I guess they are going to call you pussy now?" in all seriousness I just need to come up with a solid reason for reks to change my name back. he won't do it without a solid reason. so I am meditating and burning nag champa or cake flavored Yankee candles. here's hoping for inspiration. digipete I have a ring for my 1200, bought from a guy named rudolf bruil. Universal Record Stablizing Ring. I love mine.

Amazon.com: Swords & Dark Magic: The New Sword and Sorcery (9780061723810): Jonathan Strahan, Lou Anders: Gateway i don't even like short stories, but this collection is converting me. some really quality stuff in here.
-
never has my 1200 rig seemed so horribly inadequate as it does when I gaze upon this beauty. bravo sir! I would love to have that platter and bearing on my deck someday. do you have any interest at all in adding a record stabilizing ring?

with the digital inputs might not be a bad get down the road on the used market.

Comparing Singlepower to W4S isn't totally fair, since Mikhail's biggest issue was taking on so much goddamn impossible custom work. If he had stuck to off the shelf models and only taken on a small amount of custom work, ceteris paribus, he could still be the amp king today. In fact, limiting who he does custom work for could have just skyrocketed demand for his stuff. But anywho this topic is covered in greater depth elsewhere. Eric I see you have an Oppo. is it the SE?
-
Yeah, I'm staying in the $1000-1500 range, which is why the W4S stuff appeals to me. This is a good idea! Still, I would be out the cost of shipping and whatever QS&D would charge me just for looking at it. Still, fine idea. If I ended up with two working units I could even use one in the headphone rig. Entirely possible! I've never had a system thats pleased me as long as the all-Quad family has, but its hard to deny the desire to explore other gear. Amen. Not sure exactly what you are getting at Abby, but after I read your post I broke up with my girlfriend. Is that what you wanted me to do? Just kidding we are going over the bay to watch the Auburn game tonight with my family for my Dad's birthday. tenderloin on the grill! I'll definitely be exploring various DAC options. There is tons of DAC info just on HC alone. Having said that, it has brought me great satisfaction having the "all-Quad" system. It sounds great, and even if there is a certain amount of bullshit to the idea, I like feeling that these components were "made for each other". makes me feel warm and happy.

So as I mentioned in the other thread, my CDP-2 I purchased used on audiogon a while back (has it been years now?) is slowly falling apart. First, of course, the transport mechanism went out. I can live with that, I just ran a coax out from my Oppo to the player for when I want to spin a silver disc. But now, its official, the right channel is substantially quieter then the left, and even has some distortion and signal drop outs. This happens out of both the fixed outputs and the Quadlink. which brings me to a few options: 1. Get the CDP-2 repaired by QS&D. 2. Buy another CDP-2 on audigon (I've seen them as low as $450, screaming audio deals). 3. Buy something else. the wandering side of me likes option 3, since it would be cool to try something new, but I'm still massively leaning towards option one or two. why break up the system, you know? I know it sounds great and I love it. the only thing is repair could end up being more expensive then buying a used one, but it would give me more piece of mind.

yeah. all we're saying Eric is we are jaded and cynical and totally fucking hardcore. we are skeptical of any new product. having said that I do think the W4S stuff is really cool, and I'm glad you are enjoying yours so far. looking forward to pictures and more impressions as you find the time.
-
yes impressions please. Sherwood is probably talking about jump the shark in terms of the FOTM effect. my CDP-2 is acting up so I'm considering whether to repair or get a new DAC.

yeah ima buy em all and tell y'all how they sound good

Denon 100 - The Legacy of Firsts all kinds of good looking stuff for their 100th anniversary. the CD/SACD player looks super fine. digital inputs and everything, $2500 though. and I've seen pictures of that turntable before, looks awesome. don't know how it will all sound, but it looks just great. edit: pretty much everything in the 100th anniversary series costs $2500 on crutchfield, including the TT. the cart is $500. cans $500.

sweet news! let the flood of spritzer modded 727s commence. in fact you should call this the Level 1 mod and sell them for $1900.
-
well if it's a tribute to miles davis it's safe to say it'll sound good with jazz.

Is $370 a decent deal for an SRM-1/Mk2 C series? FS: STAX SRM-1 / MK-2 Amplifier - 'C' Series - Head-Fi.org Community

ah school starting back up really screwed up my video game life, as it always does. i'm studying auditing now when I should be rolling with dogmeat and wrecking fools. anyway I'm kind of glad I started a new character, I got a few new followers, and just managed to do the brotherhood/glow quest without dying! so i'm currently in the brotherhood of steel. Just running quests until I get strong enough to do the waterchip quest so I can really start sandboxing.

i definitely went through a headphone cable period where I tried lots of different cables on different headphones, and in the end I can say I heard differences, but shit, who knows right? Its not like the difference I hear between a Millet Minimax and Beta22, or Quad CDP-2 and Squeezebox Touch DAC, so it could all be in my head. In the end I came, I listened, I analyzed, and the difference in cables isn't enough for my ears to spend money on the boutique stuff. IMO, YMMV, etc. -

audiocubes is legit, as is pricejapan. I think pricejapan typically beats audio cubes in price, but its been a while since I browsed the two sites. the problem with ordering from either of these japanese web sites is warranty repair. at best you are shipping back to japan for warranty repair, at worst you won't get warranty coverage at all. which is why i'd rather just save $700 or so and buy used. -

the OII MK1 or MK2 is available pretty regularly on the used market, or new at elusivedisc. I think Moon Audio is a stax retailer as well. of course a meet would be the best idea.
