  3. oh yeah, I always stay optimistic about SNL. it will always get better eventually. I think it's just time for a new head writer. Tina Fey got stale eventually, I think Seth Meyers just is as well. assuming he is still head writer.
  4. I'm a big SNL fan, and am very forgiving of seasons lots of other people seem to dislike, but this season has been one of the unfunniest I've ever seen. even the Jon Hamm episode was snoozeworthy.
  5. lost season 6
  6. yeah the cart definitely looks like a Denon. Nice, I remember you really enjoyed an Acoustic Solid deck you owned a couple years ago, only that one was less shiny and more woodgrainy. They know how to make a good looking deck either way.
  7. holy crap, looks beautiful. what is it?
  8. I've been reading through that thread on AVS, and like others I am most curious as to the browsing mechanism for FLAC files. It would only be feasible to hook up a huge ass HD if A) the browsing is easy and somewhat slick and the files are presented in order. Some non-computer file systems choose to display files in whatever the hell kind of order they want to. This could put a serious damper on usability. Based on Oppo's past record of excellence I'm assuming this won't be the case, I'm just throwing the possiblity out there. I'm excited by the 93 because, even after years of use and upgrading to the Touch, I'm just not a fan of the Squeezebox user experience. Functionally its amazing, and thats why I use it, but I don't like the browsing compared to say, browsing on foobar. Browsing on a computer is just so much faster. I also don't like trying to look at the small squeezebox screen from my couch. The iPeng iPhone program helps with this, and its come a long way, but it still has some bugs that occasionally hamper usability. I would love just a simple file structure I could quickly scroll through with my remote viewable on my TV. That would be pretty cool.
  9. Thanks everyone for the help. After consulting with HC fam and my buddy-who-knows-a-lot-about-tvs, I'm going to go with the 1080p model.
  10. Amazon.com: Panasonic TC-P46C2 46-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV: Electronics Panny Plasma, 46", 720p, $632.28 Amazon.com: Panasonic TC-P46S2 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV: Electronics: Reviews, Prices & more Panny Plasma, 46", 1080p, anti-reflective coating, $768 Amazon.com: Panasonic TC-P50C2 50-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV: Electronics Panny Plasma, 50", 720p, $698.97 I have free shipping on all with Amazon prime. I'm more seriously considering the two 46" models. If the $768 model was just 1080p, I would probably go with the 720p model instead. But the AR reflective coating, plus 1080, might make it worth the extra $130. I do have two windows behind the couch, and I remember the right window used to have annoying reflections on my old CRT. Really though I could just close the blinds and the reflection was gone, not that big a deal, but still sometimes it is nice to be able to watch TV and still have some natural sunlight in the room. I don't know, its hard to judge the quality of AR coatings in store, since its not "real world" environment with windows and everything. anyone care to have a 720p vs 1080p discussion? Mentally I'm fine with 720p after extensive reading, discussion, and viewing TVs in stores, but the other model having the AR coating makes me think maybe I should just bite the bullet and spend the extra cash. Budget is <$800, viewing distance 9-10ft.

    Grado again

sounds like you have the pads called "comfies". they are standard on the SR60. flats could help with the muddiness. personally I always found flats the most comfortable, YMMV.

    Grado again

I got no comparison for you, having never heard the Joe SR series, but I'd bet flats is your pad answer.

  23. correct, but unfortunately quickly canceled out by a Monkey dis. The PS1000 is what the GS1000 always should have been, IMO. I'm not prepared to call it the greatest John Grado yet, but he did put the Grado midrange back into a bagel design. The utter lack of any midrange whatsoever in the GS1000 is why I could never fully embrace it, and the sibilance didn't help either. Having said that the GS1000 had lots to like, its just that in the end the negatives outweighed the positives. The PS1000 has the larger soundstage, the speaker-like bass, the aforementioned Grado midrange, and while the highs can tend towards the almost too sparkly/sibilant, and I'm not so sure yet about whether there is too much coloration, its definitely a very fun phone to listen to. I agree with your "negative placebo effect" theory. Its easy to scoff at the ridiculous price tag. Personally I found the GS1000 to be more of a $500 phone, while I'm more comfortable with the PS1000 at $1000.
