  1. Just got back from Voodoo Fest last weekend. Tons of great NOLA music from Dr. John to Pres Hall to the Original Meters, plus other highlights including Soundgarden, Mastodon, Steve Angello (best set of the weekend). Next weekend its off to my first Bear Creek in Live Oak, FL! I'm excited to return to the Spirit of Suwanee music park. I went to the Allman Bros' Wanee festival there back in the summer of 2009. Bear Creek is again a lot of great NOLA funk/r&b, plus Medeski Martin and Wood and Trey Anastasio are headlining.
  2. FYI I am selling the PS500 for $1295. PM me if you are interested.

    Spotify

didn't see this thread until now. I LOVE SPOTIFY i was impressed with the depth of the catalog in the free version, so I decided to give premium a shot ($10/month). Its fantastic being able to have this entire catalog in my car/on my phone. I've found about 95% of the music I've searched for. I listen to it a ton at home as well. In fact last night I hooked my iPhone up to my speaker rig and just played a massive Bunny Radio (quick background: at Phish festivals they have a radio station that broadcasts through the festival dubbed "The Bunny". some awesome person compiled a 500+ song playlist of almost every song the Bunny DJs played at Superball IX this past summer) playlist on shuffle. Of course its not the last word on fidelity, but for casual listening its fantastic. I've actually already saved money not buying new releases since I can just listen on Spotify. Then if I like it enough I'll buy the vinyl. I know subscription services have been around before, but listening to music on Spotify is actually easier then stealing it, were one so inclined to know how to go about stealing music.
  5. happy birthday vicki!!
  6. been rocking my new 4S since lunch today. took all of 7 minutes to activate. the only glitch was the order number needed for the at&t activation server was the one on my packing slip, which was different by just a few digits then the one i'd received in numerous at&t emails. weird and a little frustrating. the retina display is of course so much better then the 3GS, especially for a heavy mobile web browser/twitter user like me. the camera is fantastic, looking forward to snapping lots of pictures. and siri is really super cool. this evening i was leaving someplace and headed home and decided i want chinese food. "siri, look up the phone number to china doll!" and just like that siri whipped up the number to my favorite chinese place and was dialing. this was not a number i had in my contacts. i had delicious general tso's and fried rice thanks to siri. hell yeah. i'm stoked. and its still the best looking mobile device ever made.
  7. true, the headphone out might having better wyring then i imagined
  8. Put in an offer for a busted ass pair of old-style buttoned RS-1s on audiogon. $350 shipped and he took it! I say busted ass, but really the only thing wrong is its missing one of the plastic end cap things. Wearing them right now with the flats I never sold. Listened to the MFSL of Guns N' Roses "Patience" and was quickly reminded why the RS-1 are the kings of rock. I still like the PS1000 but am realizing with my 4th pair that I'll always love the RS-1.
  9. I'll never understand the lack of creativity manufacturers have in DAC naming. We have plenty of unique names for all other types of gear, but for DACs its always "DAC1" or some other terribly uninspiring variant. back on topic the mINT looks interesting but I'm sure the headphone out will suck.
  10. I was also grandfathered unlimited until this past June. I found myself in a position where I needed tethering and didn't want to jailbreak. Like you I never even came close to 2GB, except for one month when I was on the road a lot and streaming from the SiriusXM app. Now I run an XM skydock with antennae so thats not necessary. I needed the tethering to take an online exam while I was on the road seeing Phish. Pretty cool taking an exam in operations management from the back seat of my car cruising down a Georgia interstate. the major carriers will eventually find a way to cancel everyone's unlimited data.
  11. set alarm and woke up just before 2am central to preorder. of course everything was a mess, went back to bed about 20 minutes after on sale. the next morning both apple and at&t were giving me grief about shipping to work instead of my billing address. i changed my address on apple.com and changed my billing address on my card, but apple still wanted to ship to the old address. weird. did the same with at&t and had no issues. so i should have my 4S black 16gb from at&t next friday! i am excited.

  13. talking about Siri, I can't really think of a situation where it would be really useful to me. Having said that, I said the same thing about the iPad and I continue to be thrilled with it. Apple has a way of creating new needs and then filling those needs immediately. Having said that, Facetime hasn't exactly revolutionized mobile communications.
  14. I'll upgrade. Coming from the 3GS, and I love the design of the 4. Since its new to me I'm pretty excited. Earlier this year I was foaming at the mouth for a larger screen on my mobile phone, but after I got the iPad that urge went away. I guess the times I really wanted a larger screen was when I was at home, and now the iPad fills that need. On the go it would be nice to have a bigger screen, but the iPhone's screen size is fine with me.

  17. happy birthday to both of you!
  18. Hey- My good friend icculus514 just joined up recently. He is pretty new to the world of audiophilia but he loves it and is learning quickly. We've seen phish a shit ton together and have had lots of very long and very disturbing conversations in cars at night. He's reading over at HF a lot and trying to learn the ropes, and I'm doing my best to help him sift through the tomfoolery. He's heard lots of stories about this place (which is really hard to describe to someone with no context) and doesn't want to come off like an asshat and end up dead in a basement. However he has met reksy (back in fall 09) and survived unscathed so I think it's cool. He hasn't posted but he let slip he registered and I deduced his handle using my skills which are crazy. Anyway it would be cool if he could post here to get help, since I only have my own limited perspective to offer, so I'm hoping we can make him feel welcome. Or be really cruel to him if it turns out he sucks, then I can end our real life friendship and there will be all sorts of drama.
  19. yeah happy birthday!
  20. Yeah happy birthday!!
  21. another vote for dbpoweramp. years ago i plunked down a small amount of cash for the full version. definitely money well spent, the batch converter and right click menu converter have gotten immense use. superb cd ripper as well, for the record. much more functional and easier to use then EAC.
  22. I wish I was more knowledgable about ESL-57 prices, but I can say I've seen "perfect", as in recently restored pairs, with asking prices of ~$2,000. I suppose its possible the pair you are looking at currently works, but if its NEVER had maintenance its just a matter of usage time until it needs to be fixed up. Having said that one of my ESL-63s is completely stock and unmaintenanced, and it still sounds fine. manufactured probably around 1984, so thats over 25 years. the 57s are of course going to be older.
  23. Happy birthday man! Hope life is treating you well.
  24. i attempted to track down the photo chronicling this watershed moment in Grado history, but was unsuccessful. so instead here is a picture of Jacob after he got hit by a car.
