Cool. You think any of us will actually listen to the same songs?
-
"This group has no charts. Group charts are calculated weekly for groups with more than 15 members." (emphasis added) Does this mean we need 16 members to have charts generated?
-
This last.fm is pretty cool, easy to setup as well. One thing I missed from iTunes is the auto-production of charts. I'm sure this is possible with foobar somehow, but last.fm makes it easy. Just 4 more members and we get group charts...

"knock knock - who the fuck is bangin at my door - is it abstract commercial or hardcore?" gza genius, respect.

Those are some wild looking interconnects.

Thanks all for the recommendations, I'll check them out. Sloth, the LC1 was the cable I was considering going with this time.

Looks like I'll be getting a new source (Modwright Sony 999es), and as such I need some longer ICs to run from the source to my PPX3. I'm thinking in the length of 5-6feet, from one side of my desk to the other. I've used Blue Jeans Cables before and they are fine, but I was wondering if there are any other ICs worth checking out in that range. Just give me a couple names and I'll do some research. The world of IC's is dense and scary. Here is a pic of my listening area to better give you an idea of what I'm doing:

Absolutely! I have been surprised at how many pen folks also enjoy audio.

Well somebody got it.

Oh shit man, I love a good bit of suffering in my SFF, its just the paralyzing self-pity and the corresponding total self-absorption that I have a problem with. When the author uses a character's reflections on their past excessively, to the point where it is either filler or a plot distraction. I also see this as an insult to the reader. If a character was say captured in a war and made into a slave, where he worked in a mine breathing fumes and getting beat and shit for 7 years, the author doesn't have to remind me every chapter about how pissed off and fucked up in the head said character is because of his long enslavement: I can infer this quite well on my own. Any fans of the New Weird fanatasy writers? China Mieville, Vandermeer, Jeffrey Ford, etc.

True about Williams, I just have a hard time dealing with the whininess while it is occurring. There are sooo many fantastic SFF books out there to choose from, so I choose not to spend my reading time on books with whiny characters -- even if that whininess goes away after a few hundred pages. See also Kate Eliots Crown of Stars. I couldn't get through book one with the female lead's "woe is me" mentality. I mean true, she was a slave to an evil priest who beat and raped her, but I like my heros to cowboy up and go apeshit on their antagonists instead of feeling sorry for themselves and letting those feelings spiral down into inaction, which results in a stalling plot device that makes me queasy. "i would save my friend from the evil dragon, but my fear of my abusive relationship is preventing me from taking action, so my friend will die and I'll have something else to beat myself up over" I'm stoked about Diamond Age. I hear it deals more with nanotech then with VR/cyberspace, which is cool because I am not the biggest fan of virtual worlds in books. I did finish Eifelheim last night, all in all this was a very cool book. Not perfect, and a bit tedious in places, but the characters were wonderfully written, and by the end I was feeling great empathy and emotion for them. The basic plot (no spoilers) is that our first contact with aliens actually occurred in a small german village in the middle ages. Really the most fascinating part of the book was reading about how people viewed religion and science in that era. They had no conflict studying science with religion - all religious scholars were required to be rigorously educated in mathematics and science - the humanities were NOT taught. The people of course were extremely Christian, but wouldn't accept "because God willed it" as an answer to any scientific question. Therefore, there was no real conflict between religion and science. They would be puzzled, for example, by todays creationists. Good read if you are in the mood for a rather densely written, but short lengthwise, historical story with aliens. Not sure what I'm moving onto now, maybe the Stephenson or maybe more of The Dresden Files, which I'm hooked on.

Tad Williams writes whiny farm boy becomes wizzzard characters. I can't stand whiny characters. Currently reading: Really great book so far. So to you Neil Stephenson fans. First, I have the Baroque Cycle Trilogy on my shelves, but I have never read them. I am sure I will love it, I just have yet to pick them up. Your positive comments are making me want to. Second, years ago I tried to read Snow Crash and just couldn't really get into it. However, I heard the sci-fi channel is making a mini series out of his book, Diamond Age, so I just got that from amazon and will probably read it soon. Any thoughts on Diamond Age or comparisons of it to Snow Crash?

Thanks all for your responses, that has cleared things up for me. I'll be adding another Senn to the stable then in the next few months.

So I got teased a bit in another thread when I mentioned I ordered some HD600 grills for my HD580, because I thought that would essentially make them HD600s. Is this not the case? Do the 580's and the 600's indeed have the same drivers? If so, what is it that makes the 600's different aside from the grills, are the enclosures different?

Looks very cool! I don't know the story behind this amp, but it doesn't look like any other models I've seen in pictures. Was this a custom job?
-
While we wait for pics... I got my HD595 in today. Pretty cool can so far, its got the Senn sound, only sparkley. After some time I'll do some comparisons with it and the SR225 strictly for rock, see which one I like more in that price range.

Looking forward to your initial impressions and pics!

This isn't conspiracy theory, its fact. Bush, Cheney, & Co. only started the war because of the slump in the headphone audio industrial complex. In the past few years happy go lucky music like Spears, Nsync, etc has made the demand for high end audio equipment plummet. War makes society react, and the artistic portion of society reacts with more meaningful and serious music, which demands critical listening and thus expensive audio equipment for those who become passionate about it. This whole "blood for oil" thing is just a smokescreen perpetuated by the communist secular progressive left, who are in cahoots with the fascist right to re-revive the Garcia and Elvis robots to pacify the masses and encourage massive "travellin' hippie" spending to stimulate various geographical areas of the economy. And all those brain dead, doped up upper middle class college freshman hippies with daddy's credit card will have their Tomahawks strapped to their iPods. You don't have to thank me for setting you free. All praise is due to the one true forum, Head Case.
-
But to be fair, this isn't totally just a Head-Fi knock. It also contains plenty of general silliness which does not satirize anything at all.
-
True, I've been laying it on too thick. I'm honestly still feeling a little hurt and foolish for not taking what I read on Head-Fi with a grain of salt. Just another lesson learned, really. In person my sarcasm is incredibly dry and nearly unreadable as well, which proves how selfish I am: because if nobody can pick up on my sarcasm except me, I must continue to do it purely for my own benefit.

909, any further comments on the Saturn after a month or so? One at audiogon for 1700: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1174250904 I'm not sure if that is a good price or not, was just poking around and saw it.

Unless I bought the MKII, then it would be worth every penny. In fact, if I owned the MKII I would say it outperforms any DAC in the $8,000 and under price range. I could just buy an aftermarket balanced senn cable and attach the xlr's directly to the dac and cram the other ends of the chords directly in my temples. dynamic drivers are bullshit anyway they color the sound too much, same with amps. and true I might bleed a little bit but no pain no gain, I'm like Conan the barbarian adventurer searching for the perfect sound y'all respect.
-
You sound like a happy MKII owner. I am also curious about the transport, would be nice to know if someone has heard it. In addition to the transport, April Music also has this CDP under the name Aura Note: http://www.aprilmusic.com/products.htm Good looking CDP, imo, but again I haven't talked to anyone who has heard it.

No, I already have one of those in my bathroom for my shitter rig. I needed the multiple outputs because I have two Maestro ZR's on either side of my toilet, one with some Senn HD600's and the other with Senn HD650's. Others may spend their time while shitting reading US News and World Report: I'm out to find out what is truly the best Senn can on the market today. Hey Iron, the only online US seller for Stello products is Hi-Rez Photo Video, do you know of any others? I ordered my DA100 straight from the hifi page of april music, doesn't look like they offer the da220 or da220 mkii straight from the factory.
