Yup, I have texture control. You mean I'll actually be able to use texture control for something?

I agree that Senns and wood don't seem to mix. Especially frightening are those big mondo closed wood blocks he offers for them. Weird.

Are there any tube socket adapters worth getting for a PPX3 Slam with native 6sn7? I've got the itch to roll.

I owned stock dt770/80's briefly. Too much of a "V" spike in the sound for my tastes. I bought it specifically for listening to hip-hop, but the lack of mids ruined it for this purpose. Nice bass, high highs, just no midrange at all to speak of. I could only guess that a recable and the addition of wood could have some sonic benefits, maybe, but not enough to fully correct this can's flaws. Larry only claims to be an artist, and his work is beautiful, IMO. I hope to one day own some kind of headphile woody, but purely for the cosmetics.

my pc is a velocity micro, it has a 1/8 jack in the front of the case. hd580s + onboard soundcard = good enough for previewing songs on itunes and listening to the first few minutes of the hf podcast.

Do you like stepped attenuators in your amps? I had one in my Corda HA-2 MKII SE which I've since sold, and find myself missing it. I never really had the problem of finding the "right" volume level that other listeners have. Right now, I think I will definitely have one in my next amp. So, what is it for you?

Or get a 512mb 1g shuffle for $30 on eBay! Well thats my portable rig but I fear sun and moonlight.

Cool.

Just wanted to share something cool that happened earlier today, and this seemed like the appropriate place to share it. If you all remember, my RS-1s blew up a short time ago. Turns out John Grado was so concerned, he stopped by my place to check out my amp, to make sure all was well with it. Talk about customer service! Anyway, out of nowhere he asked me if I liked the Saw movies, and I was like "hell yeah". I knew you all wouldn't believe me, so luckily John was cool enough to let me snap a quick pic: Pretty cool that he gave the community a shout out.

Nah, get the RCM first. All that mumbo jumbo about the RIAA correction is a load of audiophile baloney. IMO, a phono stage will only dirty up the purity of the signal. I went with the Nitty Gritty Record Doctor III. Its really easy to operate, just apply the fluid, spread it with the brush, flip the record over, turn on the vacuum, and turn the record slowly 3-5 rotations. A side effect no one mentioned I've gotten from the record cleaning machine is a pleasant, clean smell fills the room after I use it. Not sure exactly what causes this.

My initial gut reaction tells me USB DAC, just because its only one component as opposed to two, and you'll likely get better SQ off an external DAC then a soundcard. There are others who will know more about this then I, I'm sure. FWIW, the Stello DA100 sounded fantastic with games before I sold it. World Of Warcraft, Half-Life 2, and Oblivion all sounded brilliant.

Right on, I don't know how I browsed past them earlier. I just put it in the cart, thanks for the heads up.

It is what was recommended to me, and hell, its worth a shot for $30.
-
If you find yourself enjoying it, I recommend you pick up a record cleaning machine. It has worked wonders for me, particularly on brand new records, which apparently need a good cleaning when you first get them. I still think CD is a good format, but I have had a hell of a lot of fun listening to vinyl.

Good point.

I want to get a modest stereo setup going in my listening room, as well as a couch instead of just an office chair, so that more then one person can enjoy music. Someone over at sh.tv recommended I check out Orb Audio. I'm looking at their Classic Two Stereo Speaker System, and possibly a Sonic Impact T-Amp to drive them. Their tiny footprint is ideal, because the listening area is small, and these would fit well on the front corners of my desk. Has anyone ever heard these speakers?

Keep in mind that if you activate now, you're price per CD will be $6.99. Still a great deal for the box sets, though.

I've got two bad 6sn7s. What do you personally do with your tubes once they go badly microphonic? Do you just throw them away? Is it worth it to try to open the tube up so maybe I can check out the insides, as an educational experiment?
-
I had to make a lot of cuts from the cart, but you're right. I've been meaning to do this for months, and there is no better time then now, and there will never be a better deal on these boxed sets then now, at yourmusic. Here it is, lazily cut and pasted: Stereolab: ABC Music...The Radio 1 Sessions Stereolab ABC Music...The Radio 1 Sessions $11.98 The Police: Message In A Box: The Complete Recordings The Police Message In A Box: The Complete Recordings $23.96 John Prine: John Prine John Prine John Prine $5.99 Miles Davis: The Cellar Door Sessions 1970 Miles Davis The Cellar Door Sessions 1970 $35.94 Miles Davis: The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions Miles Davis The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions $29.95 Miles Davis: The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions Miles Davis The Complete "Bitches Brew" Sessions $23.96 Miles Davis: The Complete In A Silent Way Sessions Miles Davis The Complete "In A Silent Way" Sessions $17.97 Miles Davis: Quintet, 1965-1968 Miles Davis Quintet, 1965-1968 $35.94 Miles Davis: Seven Steps: The Complete Columbia Recordings 1963-1964 Miles Davis Seven Steps: The Complete Columbia Recordings 1963-1964 $41.93 Miles Davis & John Coltrane: The Complete Columbia Recordings Miles Davis & John Coltrane The Complete Columbia Recordings $35.94 R.E.M.: Murmur R.E.M. Murmur $5.99 SUBTOTAL: $269.55 That is a lot of Miles Davis.

Yeah, thats about right. I've loaded up my cart with about $300 worth of CDs, time to go eliminate what I really don't need right at this second.
-
Just a reminder for those yourmusic members for whom the price increase didn't take effect on the first of the year: today is the last day to place an order at the $5.99 per cd price. I just got through wading through the entire rock/pop section A-Z, and have got myself a mighty full cart of music. And I haven't even thought about which Miles Davis boxed sets to get yet.

Listening to "Plastic Ono Band" MFSL right now, just got it in today. I've never heard the original, but I think it sounds great. When the folks at SH said it was the remix and not the original master, I was thinking it would be a remix like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aSVd9TD-E4]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aSVd9TD-E4
