My yourmusic shipment came with a FREE BOX from the USPS!

Well I should say I've seen people asking for them in excess of $2K. Not sure if any sell for that much.
-
Unfortunately, excellent condition HP-1000s are starting to go for over $2000 as well.
-
Unacceptable. I want my $1500 donation back immediately.

Book description on Amazon: An orphan girl's progress from custody of cruel relatives to an oppressive boarding school culminates in a troubled career as a governess. Jane's first assignment at Thornfield, where the proud and cynical master harbors a scandalous secret, draws readers ever deeper into a compelling exploration of the mysteries of the human heart. I don't know man, it has two things I always look for in a great book: a troubling governess career and a scandalous secret.

Hey HP-2 owners/fans, can the HP-2 do classical?

This is a great interview with Steve Hoffman about the mastering process: http://www.metrotimes.com/editorial/story.asp?id=10364 But to put it simply, when someone calls a recording "hot" or "loud", it means the recording was mastered with the volume maximized. This is how the majority of modern rock albums are mastered, and more unfortunately the way most remasters are mastered, because today's recording engineers have wool for ears and record companies know the kids want their music loud. Unfortunately, when music is maximized over the entire audible spectrum, dynamics are completely destroyed, the music has no room to "breathe". If an album's quietest parts are as loud as its loudest parts, then it is a hot recording. I think I summed that up OK.

The last excellent condition PS-1 I saw on HF went for $1800.

I think this is why I want to spend my money on either out of production gear, or current production "tried and true" models. It's just too difficult to try and interpret the hype. And since I don't know shit about how audio gear works, I have to rely on the reviews of others to decide what to purchase, and then hope my ears agree. So I'm more prone to trust a review from some old timer I dig up with the search engine on HF from 2002, or from someone who I know is knowledgable here, then a thread with 100 pages about a brand new product.

I'm only in if it also includes the free hat. If you look up "sweetness" in the newest version of Websters, it just shows this hat now.

I can't stop laughing... this is the silliest amp I have ever seen.
-
the tubes actually made farting noise when I powered on the amp tonight. Have you ever heard a 15-20 pound dog do one of those little farts? It sounded like that. They still sound great though.
-
Okay, big head test! Have you ever tried any beyers, and if so, do you ever wish they could stretch out that damn headband like, one more inch? This is the real reason I prefer Senns and Grados. They are the only cans that will fit my oddly shaped head.
-
Looks like an HFer won them! http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=236305 Hope it works out for the guy. They just look to beat up for me.

That was my problem. In addition, I couldn't pull them far enough down over my ears. The bottom of the cup was constantly pushing up on the bottom of my ear. After a listening session lasting about an hour, I would have a headache from the strap. After about a week of daily listening, I pretty much had that pain on my head all the time. I tried about two more weeks to see if I would get used to it. Just didn't happen. I quite enjoyed the sound while I had them.
-
How do you like the comfort/fit? I traded these because they wouldn't fit on my big noggin.
-
yup. kind of wish I could spring for the hp-2 insomniac is selling on hf, but he turned down an offer I made for his hp-2 + melos sha-gold, saying, "sorry, someone offered me close to that for just the headphones." Ouch, I didn't even know I was lowballing.
-
I'm finally starting to understand that. Which means I'll wait at least 6 weeks before bugging them for my cans back. In the meantime I need a Grado fix...

I thought this was funny. First, click here. Then copy and paste this in the field: 23051590000166062776

O RLY? So that is safe to do on the PPX3, just wait until the tubes warm up before plugging in the cans? If thats the case I'll just make that my standard practice. And yeah, they are gold pins. But I'm keeping them now that you've given me a solution.

That is what I am thinking, that it is the syl 5687s. The first time it happened it was with ken rad 6sn7 + syl gp 5687x2, the second time it happened it was with syl short 6sn7 + syl gp 5687x2. So the only common denominator are the syl gp 5687s. However, I've used them plenty of times before the first time, and after the first time, with no problems. In other words, the pop doesn't happen every time I turn on the amp with these specific tubes in, but the two times it has happened I've had these particular tubes in. So I'm not going to use those tubes anymore. If the pop occurs again, then I'll know it must be something wrong with the amp. I have a feeling its the tubes though.
-
So I just got home and rolled in a syl 6sn7 short, with the same syl 5687s in the output position. Turn on my amp, and heard a similar, but much less loud, "pop". Had my HD650s attached at the time, but listening right now I think all is well with them. I'm going to stop using the sylvania 5687s altogether and go back to the tung sols, and see if the pop ever happens with them. They are the only common denominator here. If I hear the pop or blow some other headphones in the process, I'll know its something wrong with the amp. Sucks, those syls sound really nice. I'll spend one more night with them then roll them out tomorrow.
