Welcome to headcase, Veniogenesis! Luckily, the foam inside the case has no discernible smell. But you know, the inside of both my HD600 and HD650 stock boxes stink with a peculiar odor. Hmmm...

True, but you will find that everyone here is a harsh critic of Ray Samuels amps for a variety of reasons. I myself have never heard an RS amp. But going off what I've heard, I don't plan on owning one. Maybe I'll hear one at a meet one day and it'll blow my mind or something, but I don't think so.

Actually I have no idea! Whatever tubes were in it when I bought it. I guess I could crack it open and check it out...

After doing some more extensive comparisons, I decided I do quite like Sennheisers with the Melos. There was a sharpness in the highs when listening to large classical works with the HD650 + PPX3. The Melos lacks the impact and "slam" of the PPX3, but the highs are a bit smoother. I'm just going to stop posting impressions altogether until I've owned the gear for at least a month.

If when I got into this hobby you told me I would end up spending as much on a case for headphones as I did for my first pair of headphones, well... I was intrigued by the case jpak uses for his HP2s, so per his suggestion I went by my local Ritz Camera store and picked up this Quantaray case. It comes with a large chunk of foam in the middle that can be customized to your camera's (or headphones) needs. So I went crazy on it with a kitchen knife, and this is what I ended up with: Not sure what I'll do with the cable. Probably keep it similar to how it is, in a large loop around the case, but maybe cut a little path leading from each driver to take the stress off that connection.

Big bingo here. My house is old. Its all windows and wood floors. There really is no way I can get a real "audiophile" speaker setup going in this house without some serious modifications. I do have some speakers and a sub in the den, and I found I can put on some crazy hip-hop in there when I want a bass fix , but all my good sources are in my small listening area/office. I'm glad the floor in here is carpeted wall-to-wall, though, so it doesn't mess with my turntable.

So I sent in my HD580 for repair and got back a....

I initially liked the 595s upfront take on the Sennheiser sound. Then I realized I had no desire for a Sennheiser that tried to be a Grado. I have Grados when I want a Grado. The HD595 was very comfy, however. Still, comfort wasn't enough to prevent me from selling them. -
Very cool. Reminds me of the Neal Stephenson book The Diamond Age. I'm gunna go join the drummers.

Great looking pen. I admit I am a sucker for sterling. Still it looks like there is a problem with the writing end there. Where is the nib?

Nice pen! I'm not a huge fan of Watermans, but the Serenite is a looker.

Just got back from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Best I've ever seen them live, so amazing. Got to shake Bela and Victor's hands after the show. One thing that is appealing about these guys is that they are all gods of their respective instruments, but they all share a real, true humility that is just so attractive. The show was small, probably not a big money maker, but they still took the time to come into the crowd afterwards and sign autographs and take pictures with everyone until the crowd cleared out. I just hope they keep playing and touring until they are like, 100 years old.

recommendations for good XLR interconnects
postjack replied to earwicker7's topic in Audio Accessories
This is the advice I was given. I just use Blue Jeans LC-1 interconnects and Volex power cords. Not until I'm 99.9% satisfied with my other components will I start considering buying spendier cables. -
True. Even the complete columbia sessions of miles davis and john coltrane only has about 43 seconds of banter.

Wow, congrats! Be sure to let us know how you like it when it arrives.

My PPX3 does this, but I always considered it a non-issue. But now that someone on the internet has told me otherwise, I'm going to get totally neurotic over it.

you ever read any jeff vandermeer or china mieville? Vandermeer is my favorite of all time.

Its just one game. Link'>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcanum:_Of_Steamworks_and_Magick_Obscura"]Link to Wikipedia [url=http://www.terra-arcanum.com/]Terra Arcanum, Fan site Game was released in 2001. Really cool steampunk/technoslip world. Victorian-esque setting with magic, highly customizable character system, non-linear gameplay. Actually this makes me want to find another copy and play it again, such a fun game!

I was a huge fan of Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura.

Okay, so maki-e a bit to middle class? A bit to bohemian & artsy? How about a diamond encrusted Montblanc?

I probably should have put the instead of the . I did indeed start into this hobby because I knew I could get better sound for less money then with speakers. But after buying an HP2, a Modwright, and a few amps... hell, I could sell just my amps and my headphones and get a pretty decent speaker rig. What I'm saying is at some point it became more then just "i can get better sound for cheaper."

I got into headphones because I saw it as a cheap way to get great sound.

Yes, MMORPG's do have a story! How the story is implemented and advanced is the decision of the developers. Oftentimes Blizzard would have huge world "events" where all sorts of crazy things were happening all around the world, like players randomly being mind controlled in major cities, or monsters appearing out of nowhere, etc., to precede the release of new content (i.e. new dungeon). Having said that, WoW was reduced to absurdity once you KNOW the queen of Stormwind is actually Onyxia the Dragon, and you have KILLED Onyxia the dragon and hung her head on the gates of Stormwind like a hundred times, and have seen every other raiding guild on the server do the same, yet the queen continues to appear in human form in the stormwind throne room so the next newb can start the onyxia chain. LOTRO seems to have fixed this a bit by having what they call Fellowship quests. Once I do this quest, I won't have access to any of the quests I gathered before, because the world around me fundamentally changes. I've only done the first of the Fellowship quests, but afterwards an entire town had burned down. This is actually really cool, and makes me want to continue to play to at least see what happens in the story.

Since I played WoW, I've had a real hard time getting immersed in a regular RPG. I bought Oblivion, and played it for a little bit, but it just didn't do it for me. Neither did FFXII (on PS2). I figure MMORPGs might have screwed me, because I quit playing WoW a few months ago, and now I can't find anything else that really engrosses me. I'm playing LOTRO, but I'm not really into it. I'm thinking something in a sci-fi setting might be a nice change of pace.

have you ever given an MMORPG a shot?
