Man, I was wondering what happened to this thread! I finished my first Neal Stephenson book, The Diamond Age, a month or so ago. It is one of the gnarliest sci-fi books I've ever read, great stuff! I'm going to give Snow Crash another shot. But currently I'm reading the fifth installment in Steven Erikson's Malazan Book Of The Fallen series. Erikson is a god.

"Fountain is a 1917 work by Marcel Duchamp. It is one of the pieces which he called readymades (also known as found art), because he made use of an already existing object?in this case a urinal, which he titled Fountain and signed R. Mutt." -from the wiki article Is a toilet! duchamp is great though. "nude descending a staircase" has become one of the most terrifying works of art I've ever seen. it wasn't scary at first, but after a while it became very scary.

I was told I would have to pay a fee when I ordered my Stello DA100, but I never received the bill from Fedex.

Some TV show DVDs are really really expensive. The only reason to purchase a TV show DVD is if you expect to rewatch it, otherwise just rent it or Netflix it. I just signed back up for Netflix so I can rent the other seasons of NYPD Blue (buddy of mine let me borrow season one), as well as The Wire and Deadwood, neither of which I got to watch. I see no need to copy the DVDs after I watched them, as I just don't think I'll ever rewatch them. And I don't copy movies or music anyway. FWIW I am buying the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine DVDs. Mainly because I bought season one before I got a Netflix account, and since I'm neurotic I feel like I have to buy the rest. I just ordered Season Three. But thats okay, I'm a nerd and I don't mind this great show on display on my bookshelf. I'll also end up buying the full BG run, just because it is such an amazing show, and I'll definitely rewatch it.

...because people equate amplification with volume.

Early impressions With the HD650 Pros: Annihilates any concept of a "veil" if their ever truly was one. Sometimes I get a little nervous listening to huge orchestral works with the HD650 powered by the Dynahi because I feel that, surely this time, the cans will just simply explode on my head, splattering brains and bits of skull-bone all around my listening area. I can smell the bits of skin frying up all gristly on the tubes popping out the back of the 999es. Seriously though, the dynamics with this combo are astounding. A good recording will sound great, going from deathly quiet to ear-blasting levels of loudness completely effortlessly. A big revelation for me has been that I did not know it was possible for an amplifier to increase detail retrieval. I honestly thought this was purely a source or can thing. But I'll be damned if I'm not hearing things in familiar recordings I've never heard before. Transients, attack, and decay are insane. I was particularly delighted to see how the Dynahi treats musical genres that, by their very nature use lots of compression and modern digital effects, like industrial, futurepop, EBM, etc. It seems to take these records and just squeeze each individual effect or instrument until a little space gets between them so air can breathe in. Very cool! In short, this amp makes the HD650 its bitch. Cons: Highs are sharp, bright, and clear. Sometimes this can be bad. My ears were a bit shocked the first couple of times I listened with the Dynahi, I guess because I haven't heard a solid state amplifier since I sold my Corda HA2MK2SE last Fall. This took a bit of getting used to. Sometimes I feel like the Dynahi + HD650 lacks in the bass region. I reserve the right to change my mind about this, but its how I feel right now. I find myself cranking the volume up to higher levels to achieve more body to the sound, when really this just gives more volume. I used to do this with the Corda, and it was the first behavioral change I noticed when I switched to tubes (PPX3): that I didn't try to crank the volume as loud to get that satisfying, full, sound. In other words, all the cons can be summed up as "its still a solid state". I am being overly critical of the Dynahi, when what I really want to do is bat my eyelashes at it and fawn. The sheer detail, speed, and power this amp brings to the HD650 outweighs any complaints I have at its solid-stateness, at least for the time being. I've only given perfunctory listens with the RS-1 and HP-2. I'm going to do some more extensive listening with the HP-2 right now! Also, while the Dynahi loves early Phish as well, it also really appreciates some of the post-hiatus shows. To paraphrase, the amp said something along the lines of "I really like the sick nasty jams like in that Piper on 3/01/03 in Greensboro". When I told the amp I was at that show it was all like "omg you rock!" then out of nowhere the Dynahi was like, "also tkam doesn't know crap about good ideas for headcase and you should definitely have your own forum where you talk about cool shit only!!" I was like "yeah man!" i dunno the dynahi must be getting up on the world wide web while I'm sleepin'. HP-2 with dynahi vs. melos snap judgement: dynahi snags slightly more detail and gives a bit more space, but the melos is just more organic and pleasant to listen to.

Help me fix a hum on the Firstwatt F1/K1000
postjack replied to granodemostasa's topic in Headphone Amplification
what commander starfish said ^^^ -
i dunno, I like his style. I probably dissect popular rap too much, but his hit song from his last album was "sittin' sideways". basically its about how he is too lame for the club crowd, but when he is with all the other misfits outside the club in the parking lot, he is number one. so he is the best out of all the losers who can't get any respect in the club. "same hoes that dis me in the club same hoes in the parking lot boppin'"

Help me fix a hum on the Firstwatt F1/K1000
postjack replied to granodemostasa's topic in Headphone Amplification
I never had a hum in my system until I setup an analog rig. How I fixed that was by plugging all my audio devices (turntable, phono, amps, CDP) into one surge protector going into one outlet. Against the other wall I plugged in all my computer stuff (computer, monitor, modem, etc) into another surge protector going into another outlet. Before I was mixing up my computer stuff and audio stuff, and this is what caused the humming. The humming is almost imperceptible now, even with no music and the volume cranked up to max. My hum was definitely the result of a ground loop, so this probably won't help you, but I thought I'd post it anyway. -
Actually Paul Wall isn't that bad as far as popular rappers go. He considers himself more of a rap fan who happens to rap then a straight rapper. His primary occupation is grill seller and installer, like on teeth. his music is typical down south h-town swishahouse dj screw sizzzurp.

Hey, can someone explain to me in kind of layman's terms what makes the Beta 22 so awesome? When I say kind of layman's terms I mean I have a basic understanding of things like output impedance and wattage etc. I'm just not a DIY'er or anything, all I know is suddenly everyone is building these deuce deuces and saying they are the bee's knees.

I chickened out on the new vinyl rig. The potential impending failure of my digital source, amongst other things, made me realize its time to cool out on the major source purchases for a bit. So it looks like I'll be getting one of these carts after all to replace the Stanton. I'll make this sl1200 sing yet, damn it.

For some reason I want to grip the handlebars and ride this headphone stand up to the Tom Thumb to get some comics and gobstoppers.

don't skimp on the hammer man. i know it sounds crazy, but you'll be glad if you spend the few extra bucks to get a decent hammer. and don't believe those fuckers at lowes, they are all brainwashed into thinking cheap hammers are okay for head hitting when they are not.

Glad to hear you are a fan! It looks totally idiot proof. Seeing dust pile up on the stylus drove me insane, which is why I think I ended up dinging up the Stanton. I tried to do the ME thing on the toothpick, then I tried to use tweezers to pull the dusty hairs off the cantilever.
