Hopefully this belongs in the speaker forum. Finally arrived after a long ordeal with Fedex: It looks great with the rest of the family: Ah, all that black and blue looks snazzy! Silver dynahi sticks out like a sore thumb. No listening impressions, because of course I have no speaker wire. :'( Still, it is a substantial unit, quite heavy. It definitely turns on, which is a plus. The volume control makes a fun clicking noise. So in other words its already worth the asking price, sound be damned.

seriously, anyone looking for more HBO goodness check out The Wire. I've got season 2 queued up and ready to roll, this show is addictive.

If I get to eager to hear the speakers while waiting for higher quality speaker wire to come in, I might borrow the cheap wire from the rear satellites in my HT just as a stopgap. Then I'd be able to compare and contrast later.

Okay, just kicking around an idea here. Kevin at KAB does a Cardas rewire terminated in a 5 pin DIN phono plate. I emailed Kevin and asked if this was a truly balanced connection for use with a balanced phono stage. His response: "That is the one single advantage of the din connector. carrying a balanced connection from the cartridge to the preamp. it has 5 pins. + - right, + - left, and a sheild. RCA's cannot be used for that, of course your phono stage must be able to accept that kind of connector as well." ...so I could get this done to my TT, and run XLRs to something like the Aqvox Phono 2Ci MKII Balanced Phono Preamp, and then of course the balanced amp, and I'd have myself a fully balanced vinyl rig, correct? I'm sure someone in headphoneland has balanced a vinyl rig, anyone have any recollection? I just figure if I'm going to balance my digital rig I should at least research the idea of doing the same with vinyl.

I feel you here. The reason I'm going for the beta22 is a) the dynahi made me a believer in what solid state can do and there isn't a non-custom tube amp available that can properly power all my headphones. Which means I would have to do a custom job, and at this point in my headphone career I'm not willing to drop that kind of money. Also its a plus not having to deal with tube headaches like when they blow up your RS-1 , and not having to drop major cash on spendy nos tubes. Like I said in my Dynahi impressions a little while back, dynahi ss is still ss, but its superb ss. I believe the beta22 will offer me even better performance then the Dynahi, plus I get to go balanced with it. but hey, tubes are tubes, and I still love 'em. One day I'll make my way back...

wooooot! after a failed reroute because they couldn't find my parents address, I asked my dad to just go pick it up. He just emailed me and said he got it and dropped it off at my place. I do need to run by somewhere and get some speaker wire. For my budget HT, I just use some 14 gauge stuff I buy at Best Buy. I was going to use the same stuff for my quads, unless anybody has any suggestions? I don't know anything about the importance of speaker wire, but I imagine its even less important then ICs.

they are remarkable cans. Different enough from the RS-1 to justify owning both. The RS-1 can do midbass better, but the MS2i does low bass better. Maybe a bit boomy, but its fun to hear a big bass "vhooom" against my ears when Lesh hits that right note.

Sure, over here we tend to get to loud, we get to profane, we get to mean, but its because this is a reactionary forum, started to provide a place for open honest discussion about headphone related audio gear. I still click the "new posts" button to check out what is going on at head-fi, and I love the marketplace, and of course the archives are an incredibly valuable resource for anyone with half a brain and an ounce of discerning ability, but for the most part I don't even try to correct someone when they make some egregious claim about a piece of gear they don't even know shit about. And this is sad, because bullshit goes unchecked, and tons of newcomers to the hobby buy bullshit gear, get bad sound, and then fall out, where if they would stay in for the long haul, they would spend more money, learn more, and become a greater asset to the community and thus grow the fucking hobby, and isn't that what all the draconian moderation measures are about anyway tyrion? For the sake of the hobby, to grow the hobby, to get major manufacters involved in the hobby, to get more money in the hobby? Hell man, I'm all fucking for it! I don't whine about how great headphones used to be because I'm focused on what I've got today, and am excited about what the future holds. But a consumer demographic filled with ill-informed newbie twits does not long money make. Short money, sure, but if the Head-Fi philosphy really is focused on the long game like Tyll and others are, then HF sponsors need to be allowed to take the punishment dealt out to them by the end consumer, and hopefully then either change their product or business practices for the better of the community or go out of business.
