  1. correction: the manual suggest six.
  2. After a good couple days of listening, I will say that the Cambridge 840a + Quad 22L's + Nate's speaker cables make me happy to be alive. Just gorgeous, beautiful sound that brings out all kinds of emotions in me. Yes I have even danced a little bit here and there. Speaker placement is oh so crucial. I have them about 7.25in off the wall, any closer and the bass gets boomy and unpleasant. They might could stand to be even further off the while, but for right now I'm enjoying them. Per the 22L's manual, I have them angled just slightly inward toward my listening chair. However, not all my measurements are ideal. The speakers are a scant 3ft apart from each other, whereas the manual suggests seven. But for now, in my situation, its the best I can do. Maybe someday I'll move them to the spare room where I dream of one day building a pure listening room, but for the time being they stay here, crammed in the small office-ette off of my bedroom. The speakers excel at jazz, classical, and the Grateful Dead. They do well with rock, certainly, but the sound is so balanced across the spectrum that I'm sure a "livelier" speaker could be more involving. But I've had no trouble getting into Genesis, King Crimson, and other proggy affairs. I'm so impressed with the build quality of the 840a that I'm looking closer at the 840c to replace the Aqvox for my computer-as-source/redbook needs.
  3. very cool, I like this. looks like a good, clean option.
  4. yeah, I don't want it to do anything to the signal besides pass it on.
  5. does the 0404 have asio drivers?
  6. true, and it seems like it would be a handy piece of gear to have around anyway. also its way fotm so...
  7. Before its over with, I'll own a CDP with a digital input. My computer is on the opposite side of the room from my rig. Currently I have a long USB cable running from the computer to the back of the Aqvox. Whenver the Aqvox gets replaced, I'll need something to do the USB -> Toslink/Coaxial thing. The name I remember the most from researching this kind of thing a while back was the M-Audio Transit. Is there any other piece I should consider?

so i just upgraded my netflix subscription to the five at a time, and I'm going to cancel my cable. i haven't watched actual tv in months, just dvds of tv shows.
  13. looks good, I'll be in touch! Don't worry about the diamonds, I'm sure Stephen will have some leftover from my beta22. I was going to get the entire case encrusted in them, but I guess I could keep the back panel un-encrusted so I have some leftover to superglue to my interconnects.
  14. this is the best idea yet.
  15. oh, i thought 909 was being a smartass. warm is good.

  17. Time to start thinking about getting some XLR interconnects. Anybody want to drop some names so I can do some research? I really like the DiMarzo M-Path's I bought from Jacob, but M-Paths are not available with XLR connections. So basically I'm looking for a cable that leans toward the syrupy and warm. It would be a big plus if they have canary yellow diamonds in there somewhere, but this is not a steadfast requirement.
  18. Yes, these cables are beautiful, thank you very much Nate. I'm running the speakers through their paces, and really enjoying them so far.
  19. x2, with commentary. this should be a fun comparison.

  22. FHDSDFGSFDsfdgh54354365375hf;;''''''''''''''''''' whoops, just passed out on my keyboard out of fucking boredom. i nominate this thread for most unnecessary, unfulfilling, and unproductive thread of 2007. This is the Un-Thread. Its even worse then that thread about mid-fi IEMs.
