Audio Technica headphone question -- closest to leatherhead?
Yeah, I bought and sold Peter's for just north of $800, IIRC. Even that is too much for them, IMO of course.

- There's Something Disturbing About Ultrasone...
Update: I call bullshit on the "brain burn-in" theory of Edition 9 greatness. I've done plenty of listening with this can since I bought it, and it simply remains what it is. Its strongest point is probably the large size of its soundstage relative to the size of its housing. Next strongest point is the bass. The midrange is still tonally flat and cold (not cool, but cold). Highs are erratic and out of control at best: sometimes they are bright, sometimes they are muddled and dark, sometimes they are okay. I think purk and others are right when they say you are better off with an HD650 with a nice aftermarket cable, as you get a similar darkish sound and nice bass (not as nice as the ed.9, but still nice) without all the midrange sterility and inconsistent treble of the ed. 9. Having said all that, I still remain firm that these are very attractive phones, and if you were to wear them out to Starbucks I'm sure you could get laid superfast with hot womens, or sexy mens for that matter.- The Headcase Stax thread

Yeah, thats my old HP-2, which I bought from insomniac, and then sold to Laine. It is a beautiful HP-2.- There's Something Disturbing About Ultrasone...
can you link to this thread? thanks. Maybe I'm stretching things a bit, but to me a relationship between Rudistor and Ultrasone means that Sovkiller still has a vicarious relationship with Ultrasone, whether he wants to or not.- Post the last thing you bought!

I received my SR-Lambda and SRD-7 yesterday, and listened to them last night and today. I don't want to jump the gun, and I understand initial impressions can sometimes fade, but jesus christ I like this headphone. The very first thing that hit me is something that is usually described to me as the weak point of stats: the bass. Are you fucking kidding me? I have never heard bass so deep, full, complex, layered, and yes, impactful. And strangely this humongous bass sound does not interfere with the highs and mids, nor does it muddy up the soundstage. It exists in harmony with the rest of the spectrum, which is very natural and lifelike. Mids and highs exist together quite seemlessly. The Lambda is a pleasure to listen to at either low or high volumes. It also has superb speed, very ear-tickly and grin inducing. Mostly I find myself listening to a lot of trance on the Lambdas, since lush atmospheric soundscapes and pulsing beats compliment the Lambda's strengths so well. The 840A appears to have no trouble pushing these phones.- new foobar has the best pretties look evar.

Here's a question about the O2: is the headband adjustable at all? I'm always skeptical about "one size fits all" kind of headphones, since they rarely seem to fit me.- Rank Your Headphones

This should be fun! These are personal preference with a bit of performance mixed in. I wouldn't want to try to separate the two. RS-1 > HP-2 > HD650 > GS1000 > W5000 > HD600 > HD580 > K340 > MS2i > W11JPN > SR225 > SR325i > K701 > DT990 '05 > SR60 > DT770/80 Pro All amps based on single ended drive out of Veda Audio Dynahi SA, with the exception of the K701 and SR60 (Headfive), SR225, DT770/80, and DT990 '05 (HA-2 MKII SE), and HD600 and HD580 (PPX3 Slam). At various times, some of the cans designated as being Dynahi driven were also driven by a Melos SHA-Gold or PPX3 Slam, but I found the Dynahi to have the best performance as well as being my personal preference. I have not yet included the Ultrasone Edition 9 anywhere on the list, since I haven't owned it for a long enough time to grant it a position in the hierarchy (if I was forced to, right now they would fall somewhere behind or around the HD600. They are enjoyable headphones, despite their flaws). Also IEMs were not included in the list, mainly because I haven't had enough listening time with the ER4P and my recollection of the iM716 is faint (to be fair my recollection of the K701 and DT990 '05 is faint as well, but comfort issues with the K701 automatically drop it to the bottom of the list anyway).- The Headcase Stax thread

I do think the review is well written and quite humorous, though I'll take no stance as to whether or not it is ethical.- trying to achieve the impossible
I agree, its the tonality of the RS-1 that makes it one of my favorite cans, and my favorite can overall for rock and jazz (this same tonality that does so well for distorted guitars also makes horns excel, IMO. in fact I think the RS-1 might be a better jazz phone then a rock phone ).- The Headcase Stax thread
Ah, this is cool. The spy pictures of the silver sure looked snazzy. In other news, I get my Lambdas today. I'll get my first listen late tonight.- I finally heard the ER4S but ...
actually on the hearyourself site, I'm pretty sure they say you don't have to mail them your IEMs, that you can just slide on the molds like any other tip. I think? Still a pain to get the molds made though. I wouldn't want to try to attempt to do it myself, the instructions sound tricky.- Happy Birthday xand1x!
