  1. captain beefheart is the shit, the fucking shit.
  2. i would avoid mr. vaughn. i had a bad experience recently with some harassing drunken phone calls and a dead trout nailed to my front door. is it a coincidence that I recently ordered some cables from VV? I doubt it.
  3. he's no martin short, thats for sure!
  4. i'd go all DIY with an HD650 at the end of the chain.
  5. 80s Genesis, Phil Collins solo.
  6. nah, i was always a tourist in the lot. I never completely fit in.
  7. BLASPHEMY! I preferred 2pac in my naive youth, but with the experience my advanced years have brought me, I now fully understand the greatness that is C. Wallace. And if you wasn't fat he wouldn't be Biggie now would he?
  8. Yes, the HD650 is superb with "The Drift", mainly because instrument placement and imaging isn't so important, while a deep, dark, scary sound is. Band I haven't heard mentioned yet: Modest Mouse - Don't get it, don't care. Every single one of my friends likes Modest Mouse. I just think its dumb, and I don't like Isaac Brock. Bands I concur with: Rolling Stones - Overrated. I've always seen it as bad blues pop/rock. I mean the songs aren't even that good. And the fact that they still are together today makes it worse. Diana Krall (and all her ilk, past and present) - I DON'T LAHK SINGIN IN MAH JAZZ. If you sing its not jazz, its pop music. This is all well and good BUT ITS NOT FUCKING JAZZ. imo. Bands I agree with Grawk on: Dead & Phish. I never try to convince anybody these bands are good. Its just a thing. And for the record I never saw the Dead live. And if you don't currently like either of these bands (or Panic, who I usually put just a wee notch above Phish) then good for you, because its time consuming as hell listening to their music. You could listen to several '65-'67 blue note jazz albums in the time it takes to listen to one show. Bands I like a lot who others don't (in this thread): Ryan Adams. I urge people to listen to Heartbreaker, Cold Roses, and Jacksonville City Nights in their entirety before making any judgment calls. If you don't like him then, you are off the hook. He is a true master of song writing and vocals, and as a bonus his albums are recorded in a fashion super pleasing to this audiophile's ear.
  9. Ah okay, it works with a specific type of tonearm. Thats good. Cartridge alignment is such a bummer, but I'm getting better at it.
  10. See? Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way. I actually found out about the box in a thread at the hoffman forums. Apparently not but a few weeks ago, the price dropped to ~$110. Back to $199 now though. \ I often wonder what formula amazon uses in their pricing. They alway seem to swing up and down wildly.
  11. Looks nice, but I admit to confusion. How do you mount it? It looks like its just screwed directly into the tonearm.
  12. and this has been me the first two and a half years of my full time working career. I'm just now learning to stop engaging in this type of behavior. My boss was a little shocked the first time I raised hell about being abused regarding a day off I wanted (this being about three weeks ago). But she apologized and promptly gave me exactly what I wanted.
  13. I didn't buy any mouse ears.
  14. you made me giggle.
  15. happy birthday haj!! your digital rig will soon be similar to mine, so we are like digital brothers.
  16. I have to say, listening to the slow folksy rock sounds of Wilco, with a Grado cart dragging through the vinyl, into the apuresound recabled RS-1, is a pretty magical experience. And I am intimately familiar with magic, having just been in Disney World a few days ago.
  17. http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000TJQ75E/104-1306215-5332750?SubscriptionId=1ZJXCA3ADBXFZJPBRMG2 80 CDs, $200. Each CD comes in a mini-LP sleeve, and the CDs themselves are recreated to look like little vinyls. I have no familiarity with Gould's work, but I have a hard time passing up a deal like this. Any thoughts?
  18. the headcase shirt should be made of clear techflex.
  19. Good stuff Alex, thanks for the clarification. And I am enjoying the cans very much.
  20. your gear blows btw, i can see it there in your sig. you should buy more shit so i like you.
  21. The Black Dragon's internals are thinner, but since both cables use the same techflex, the end result is they are the same width. The V3 is significantly heavier then the BD (as far as cables go, anyway), and neither cable is flexible. The only two games in town for wood Grado recables are Drew @ Moon Audio and Alex @ apuresound. Trust me, I've done my research. Both are a pleasure to deal with, but Alex's turnaround is much, much faster, since Alex does his recabling in house and Drew has a deal with Grado Labs whereby they do the actual recable (takes 2-3 weeks).
  22. After several months of goading, a friend finally pushed the Lost Season 1 DVDs on me, so I'm giving them a shot. I'd watched the first few episodes of season 1 last year, and it didn't really do it for me, but I just watched episode 4, and it was pretty good.
  23. If I was the writer I'd have his speakers be Thiels, and I'd have Reks guest star in an episode about headphones vs. speakers. He'd be like, "Listen to my Thiels."
