After years of titles I've been luke warm about MFSL has started putting out some good stuff. Weezer on vinyl, I bought blue album and Pinkerton and love it. Not sure if you do vinyl but I figured you'd be interested in some of their silver label stuff. Yaz "Upstairs at Erics", which I've bought but haven't listened to yet. The original album already sounds so stupendously good, not sure how much they can improve. They've also done a few Sisters of Mercy releases, still haven't bought Floodland yet but will.

Concerning the PM-1, I'd like to know if it can fit a big head. My noggin is enormous and that eliminates a lot of headphones for me. Pretty much every type of "one size fits all" type of headphone, except for the AT wing design.

Also looking forward to your PM-1 review.

Reading the specs, it basically is a Benchmark DAC2 for $800 less. In five years all audiophile electronics will be Oppo.

Yup, MFSL has done a bunch of Miles SACDs. Round about Midnight, Four and More, Sketches of Spain, Milestones, and In A Silent Way. I think thats all of them. In A Silent Way generally sounds good to me, but there is a lot of tape hiss. And of course thats a good thing, because it wasn't no-noised, and tape hiss never bothers me, but it bothered me a little bit last night listening on my speakers. Didn't bother me as much on the HD800, which is strange. I just bought Milestones, haven't listened to it yet.

Season one I enjoyed. Season two, for me, got really sloppy towards the end. Too many disparate story lines going on, although it was the most horrifying season yet. Season three I probably enjoyed the most, but I still felt the ending was a little sloppy. So basically to me they start out strong, then kind of peter out, like the writers aren't sure how to wrap it up. But hey, I'm watching all the episodes and enjoying them. Jessica Lange alone is so wonderful, her performance last season was outstanding. But I think my wife told me she won't be in season 4?

I think the idea of a new cast / new story every year is exciting. American Horror Story has kind of done this, although they do generally maintain the same troupe of actors, the story and setting is different every season, the only constant being the genre. Given, American Horror Story is overall pretty bad, but similar to True Blood, its at least entertaining, with generally good performances. MM and Woody were absolutely outstanding. They need to pull some crazy talented actors for season two. I'm hoping at least one of the leads is female.

Thanks everyone for the advice, that shop vac looks perfect. i was going to buy one that was more expensive, so thanks for saving me the cash! and those bleach pellets sound like a great solution, will look into that as well.

Summary: recommend me a wet vac I can use to suck all the nasty water out of my A/C pan. So last summer I had issues with my pan under my A/C in the attic overflowing and staining my ceiling. This probably happened for a variety of reasons: My pan for some reason leans to the opposite side of where it drains Also for some reason the "kill switch" that cuts off the A/C when the water reaches a certain level was on the wrong side. So water was draining out the other end of the pan, and the kill switch was never switched. The drain pipes are probably clogged up because as a first time homeowner I knew nothing of keeping A/C drainage pipes clean, so didn't do anything with them (pour bleach down them etc) for 6 years, until last summer. I just moved the kill switch to the proper side of the pan, so I shouldn't have any more ceiling staining issues, but I still need to get the whole drainage system properly cleaned. I'm working on various methods to check the drainage pipes and get them cleaned out. I've tried the thing where I go outside and spray the hose into the drainage pipe, but the network of pipes is so long coming out of my attic I don't think this will cut it. I'll probably need to turn off the A/C, suck all the water out of the pan, then dismantle the pipes and take them outside to clean them. This will be a lot of fun. I've manually bailed out the pan with a cup and a bucket, but its impossible to get all the water out this way, and I really want to get it bone dry so I can get everything in the pan and pipes cleaned. So, with all that said, I'll take any A/C pan cleaning/drainage tips you have, but for my immediate needs I need a vacuum that will easily suck all this water out of the pan. It has chunks of crap in it, I don't know what the chunks are but they are orange colored and terrifying.

I like the screen. Looks neat.

Platinum SHM-CD Bullshit claims about special SHM ink or whatever aside, this is a damn good mastering. Very similar to the original MFSL but with a little more oomph in the treble (in a good way). Of course MFSL is doing a new mastering of this title soon, which I'll also be buying. EDIT: also one of my favorite album covers of all time

I did like 13, but I definitely prefer the earlier Blur stuff. Not that I ever expect Albarn to write music like that again, I respect that he has to grow and try new things. He'll be at Bonnaroo this summer and I'm trying to decide if I'll go to his set or not. Definitely need to listen and relisten to the new record.

So how do you like it? I've only listened to the first few tracks but found them all really boring. Not saying it won't grow on me, just my initial reaction.

The Shure SE-215 are my work phones, and I love them. Super comfy, great sound. They are also super durable. In my line of work things can get pretty rough. I work at an all raw ground beef smoothie store (Postie's Beef Smoothies, check us out), and my SE-215s have gotten sucked into the Vitamix more then five dozen times, and they still work great. But then when I bring them home my dogs smell the ground beef and use the SE-215 as a chew toy! Still works great though. Everything I'm around smells like ground beef all the time.

Neil Young claims he was working on an audiophile iPod with Steve Jobs
postjack replied to Wmcmanus's topic in Portable Audio
I've bought a few Blu Ray Pure Audio discs, all classical at this point. They do sound great, but I'm mostly running them through my Audyssey'd HT rig which downsamples to 24/48. I've switched back and forth between the full resolution version (analog outs from oppo bdp-95) and the Audyssey'd version (hdmi out to my humble denon AVR-2112CI receiver) and I like the Audssey'd version better. Bottom line is, just like any "new" format, its the mixing/mastering that counts more than the hi-rezness, IMO. This whole room correction thing has been a real revelation to me. I'd never been able to get my HT to produce audiophile quality sound, particularly because the subwoofer was so out of control. Audyssey gets that in check. Its not completely monodirectional, but its surprisingly how little I'm thinking "the bass is coming from there". Usually it feels like its right in front of me. And the phantom center is perfect. Way off topic I know. I just like Audyssey and wanted to share. -
Watched this a few months ago, STUPID good. Everyone who loves music should watch this as quickly as possible. I'm ashamed to admit that even as a lifelong resident of Alabama I had no idea the history this studio in Muscle Shoals had. Fascinating how so many things so important to music can happen in one place. And the guy who started and ran the studio is the most fascinating character out of everyone in the doc. For a similar type of documentary, check out the Dave Grohl directed "Sound City" if you haven't already. Also outstanding and surprisingly emotional.

I'm still in the middle of season two. Even moreso then The Wire this show is a slow burn. It took me about ten episodes to "get" The Wire, but once it hit, I fell madly in love with all the characters in the show. For Treme it took until the first couple of episodes of season two. Its like season one was all just setup. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed season one, but I didn't become attached to the characters until season two. I love New Orleans. In fact I'll be there later tonight.

Silicon Valley is hilarious so far. "Snack dick" lol

Two words: VHS head cleaner. Everytime basset hound "expeditiously" hesitates, I can't help but be reminded of each time mechanical "listening" noises instead! chinese, try flats.

Watched the first two episodes of this last week, loved it. Absolutely hilarious. Interesting to see a show take on the absurdity of corporate cult culture in Silicon Valley, especially since Apple/Google/etc are so celebrated as beacons of how a business should be run. In the past couple of months I've become a fan of Kumail Nanjiani. He is always perfect on Portlandia, and I heard some of his standup on sirius that had me howling. and of course he's great in Silicon Valley. I also love that critics are calling the show sexist after just two episodes because of the lack of women.
