I suppose there is some validity to this. Its like the story of the scorpion and the frog. The scorpion needs to get across the river, and so he asks the frog for help. And the frog is like "Nah man, you are a scorpion, you'll just sting me!" But the scorpion pleads, and swears he won't sting the frog. So the frog caves and gives the scorpion a lift across the river. Once they get across, the scorpion stings the frog. As the poison flows through the frog, and he lays there dying, he says, "But you swore, you said you wouldn't sting me!" And the scorpion says, "What'd you expect? I'm a scorpion." Meaning its a bit ridiculous to get too worked up about the government wasting time and money. Its just what they do.

This Christmas bill comes dangerously close to legislating morality, which is my absolute least favorite thing the government does, and also is outside the scope of government.

you saw the pics, you know what you were getting into. besides, the tubes alone would run you $300.

In general, I also find vinyl playback superior. post count +1

well the original megaforce CD goes for ~$100. the vinyl is much cheaper.

Just ordered the original Megaforce vinyl in NM condition from a reliable seller!

Interesting. This helps to show that as sellers, our policies our based on our past experience. I have yet to be strung along by a buyer, all my transactions have been handled super quickly. Having said that, I just about always completely ignore lowballers, especially if its Kaslov from Upanisland with zero posts and who offers no outside feedback. I did just sell my W5000 to a zero post head-fier, but he had extensive audiogon feedback which he presented to me upfront.

I've never really been able to wear hats. \

I believe the VTGs employ a similar fitting mechanism to the JPN, and the JPN were a bit too snug on PJ's head. Still wearable, but not wholly comfortable. Grados and earspeakers fit me best.

In my case, my head is quite large, so the seal was excellent. Pushing in on the cans did not increase bass quantity.

Thanks for your impressions Nate. While I prefered the W5000 to the W11JPN, in the end neither can was for me. I don't think I'm an AT guy, but I haven't heard the W10VTG or L3000. I did keep the W5000 for a few months though, so I definitely gave them a fair shot. They are good cans, but are bested by both the RS-1 and Lambda. Probably what turned me off the most wasn't the hot upper midrange, but instead the lack of bass. If the W5000 had a rocking midbass slam, they would be a righteous rock can. Instead I kept turning up the volume to get bass quantity, and at these higher volumes is when the upper midrange became offensive. I found the W5000 best qualities were imaging, soundstage, and speed. Its too bad about the anemic low end.

you're a DJ! But seriously. The guy has created and produced a threaded clamp, a strobe light disabler, an external PSU, a tonearm fluid damper, a 78RPM mod, isonoe footers, a line of integrated carts, and most recently a variety of hardwood cabinet bases, all only for the Technics SL1200. He's crazy as hell about this table.

Once the buyer has sent an "I want it" PM, I give them 48 hours to pay once they have received my paypal email address. If they specifically ask for more, I am happy to accomodate if they are an established member of the community. So I'd say since the buyer provided you with his paypal, then sold to someone else, that is pretty shitty. If he didn't want to wait after you sent the second PM, he should have written back to you ASAP and told you so.

Wow, really? Even with its singly nature, I still find it an incredibly moving song, a fitting post-punk tribute to the absurdity of the existential kerouacian/beat new american dream.

yes, kab wants to spread direct drive love to everybody. trust me, he is VERY passionate about the technics sl1200mk2. sure he wants to make a buck too, but the amount of time he put into making those 1200 mods is crazy. [me=postjack]shills[/me]

wow, i'm just like him, except for the exercise, chess, and presidential position. I was president of my class in high school though, so that is pretty similar.

So whats the latest word on the MK2? I did some perfunctory browsing in the HF Stax thread, and it seems like there are some extremely positive reviews in contrast to the original bad reviews. Anyone had any pertinent back channel conversations that shed anymore light on the issue?

Its wild as hell, but I just did exactly this, and any notions that the Quads are bright disappeared. Thanks so much for the tip Duggeh!

Before its over with I will do exactly this. I'm kind of waiting for the dust to settle on the whole mk2 thing though. stax rox -
I guess you would need two if you really wanted them to act as stands for the Compacts?

I'm sitting ~6ft away, and actually am using a significant amount of toe-in. I'll try firing the speakers more forward and see how that works, thanks for the tip. I'm not really looking to buy, just expressing a curiousity about high efficiency single driver designs and the amps that power them. So I decided to make a public post and waste all of your time rather then PM Mike and waste his time.
-
A little rolled off in the high end might be good for application in a smaller listening room like mine. Sometimes the Quads can be a little bright, and I feel that if I could put some more distance between them and myself this would not be the case.
-
Sounds interesting, but it definitely comes across as being a "niche" type of sound. I'd sure like to audition a pair though.
-
Agreed. 10ft minimum on any recable for me, and I only sit a few feet from my amp. I just toss any extra cable under my desk. This is also so the cable can run straight down my chest and onto the floor in front of me, as opposed as directly to the right where my amp is located. I find when using a shorter cable and having to run it in this fashion, it drags the headphone down on my head all lopsided.

Tyrion posting his Compact Hemps for sale got me interested yesterday, so I did a bit of internet searchage. I like the looks of the Omega company, and their speakers look very nice, and reasonably priced to boot. I'm a newb when it comes to high efficiency speakers and SET amps (its high efficiency right, not low efficiency?), but I admit the simplicity of it all appeals to me (single ended triode -> single driver). So what do Omegas sound like? Do they like bigger rooms or smaller rooms?
