nevermind, i can't come up with a source for my false information anywhere. scratch the "this is their last album bit". I must have forgotten that wu-tang is here forever, muthafucka.

did I just pull that straight out of my ass? i swear to god I thought I read it here of all places.

a friend of mine's boyfriend is the promoter (Live! Love! Revolt! Booking). she told me it cost $50,000 to book them, so tickets are $45 advance. Its also on a worknight, and they probably won't take the stage until 11pm. But even with all that, I really have to go. This is probably their last tour since 8 Diagrams is the last album.

Wow, that is cheap! This could be a fun device to just have out and about at WiFi hotspots and what not. I see it also comes in black, which is good.

nah, there's better amps then the Melos for Grados IMO. I preferred the Dynahi to the Melos with both the HP2 and RS1. I can't speak for the SR100, but I could assume my findings would be similar. I concur with orenthal james and nato crisp though: currently your cash would be most effective on your upstream components.

Yup yup. I don't know whether to attribute this to the button or the recable, it could be either. On the buttonless RS-1, Phil's vocals are smooth and easy, if maybe the tiniest bit muffled, like a less liquid and refined HP2. On the buttoned recabled RS-1, Phil's vocals are clearer and more forward, but the peakiness can hurt my head a little. This midrange reminds me of the W11JPN midrange, which was fatiguing to me. Instruments do seem to have more room to breathe on the recabled RS-1, and treble hits have more clarity. post count +3 yay.

In April I'm going to New Orleans to see Ministry at the House of Blues. I'm pretty pumped since I've loved Ministry since 6th grade and have never seen them live. Touring with Al & Co. are two bands called Meshuggah and Hemlock. I did a little research and Meshuggah last night on amazon, and they sound like a pretty badass math-metal band. Hemlock I know nothing of. I'd like some albums recommendations for Meshuggah and Hemlock if any of you have any (Dusty?). Thanks!

There is a peakiness in the upper midrange of the recabled buttoned pair that is fatiguing. This fatigue is simply not present in the buttonless pair.

After doing an "Invisible Touch" shootout, using the 32VD-1023 Black Triangle pressing, its obvious the recabled pair offers more overall clarity, especially in the midrange. The buttonless RS-1 with stock cable does come across as slightly muddier, but only relative to the recabled pair. I'd really like to hear an apuresound recabled buttonless pair for comparison, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. The buttonless RS-1 does sound more neutral, meaning less trebly and peaky in the upper midrange. I could be mistaking this for less clarity? More listening will tell. A more interesting comparison will be the serial numberless RS-1 with stock cable vs. the buttonless RS-1 with stock cable. I'll keep you all posted.

x2, seriously pretty cat.

Nah, I'm not ready to buy new speakers yet. I'm going to spend more time cutting my audiophile speaker teeth on the Quads.
-
Duly noted. I'll scratch the subwoofer idea until I've heard the speakers in my larger room. Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions.

The problem is my listening area is so cramped, so there isn't much area to move things around in. Moving them any closer to the wall makes the bass "louder", but it sounds crappy and bloaty. I do have an extra bedroom I store my books and vinyl in, and I've considered moving my entire rig, computer and all, into this room to give the speakers more room to breathe. It would be a hell of an undertaking though. It would give me the opportunity to mount my turntable (and future turntables) on the wall though, which would be great.

well fuck it, no point in me showing up. :'(

I can't wait to hear your impressions with the pico.

Based on the briefest of comparisons, I believe that the recabled pair is slightly peakier in the upper midrange, making the newer buttonless pair more pleasant to listen to. Whether this is attributable to the old design or the recable (or both) is debatable. Also, when listening to the recabled pair, I have to connect it to an Black Dragon XLRx2 -> furutech SE plug in order to run it off my Dynahi, so this should also be taken into account.

Damn picasa. Sorry about that. thanks deepak for the save.

Deepak, I already have taken four of these and mounted them inside K1000 cages. They are perfect for blowing one's fool head.

I feel like they are not going low enough. The room is definitely a small size room, I sit around six feet from my speakers and they are ~7in from the wall. I'm in the middle of the room with my desk behind me. Unfortunately there is a large opening to my left, meaning my listening "room" is not so much a room as a little addon extension to my bedroom. Don't get me wrong, the bass is good, but I just want more and lower. I was listening to Gershwin's "An American In Paris" on DG vinyl a few days ago, and I knew the bass should be reaching lower.

Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely look into the SVS subs then.

Got the buttonless RS-1 in today, been listening all night. Here are some quick pics with the previous generation RS-1: They certainly aren't bad looking phones, but I admit that in person they lose some of their "oomph" visually. They don't really strike me as bold, flagship phones, but as rather timid and quiet looking. I think this effect has as much to do with the font as the lack of button. The overall quality of the wood, however, is about the same. I thought the wood itself would appear cheaper, but it doesn't. Maybe the way its cut, but not the wood itself. As for the sound, there is certainly nothing wrong with them. They sound fantastic, no complaints at all here. Listening all night with zero fatigue. I'll do more comparisons later.
