  1. yeah but then they wouldn't really be balanced, would they?
  2. of course! I was going to ask tyrion to do that for me this weekend. the double interconnect is a stopgap just to see how the speakers work out next to my monitor, dusty chalk style. They are BJ LC-1s i had laying around in the top of my closet, so rather then spend more money, I just stuck 'em together.
  3. sounds like good news!
  4. roflcopter
  5. Only issue is I'll be running some pretty long RCAs (actually two RCA cables joined together with radio shack female/female RCA connectors, making them several feet long)from the pre-outs. Eventually I'll have to just move my audio rack so it is closer to my desk, but its such a colossal pain in the ass it is to move an audio rack.
  6. woot, just got through putting my new 12Ls in the trunk. Can't wait to crank 'em out tonight. It'll be interesting to see exactly how the preouts on the 840A work, the manual is quite vague.
  7. Just got this one in today, and after staring at it all day have finally gotten the opportunity to listen. The set itself is beautiful, with an attractive surprisingly thick box (though I admit some tears have already occurred on the edges of the lid). The sleeves themselves are mini-lp sleeves, and are a lot of fun to look at, since they are perfect little recreations of the original vinyl, complete with all the fun instructions on the back like "no needle is permanent" and "make sure your turntable is level" and "record surface must be kept clean". The CDs also look like little records, which is also fun. Included also is a CD sized hard back booklet with little blurbs inside about each of the releases. Also there is a card inside listing all the recordings, which can be used as a quick reference when trying to locate a specific recordings amongst the 80 CDs. Listening to the first disc, The Goldberg Variations, as we speak. The sound appears faithful but shows its age, with tape hiss entering in and out of the recording. But to these ears, these old recordings are a lovely thing to behold. The packaging gets a total 5/5 for me. This is a boxed set I am very happy to have bought.
  8. Definitely demons. Eventually you won't even be able to hear yourself whistle, you'll just hear the demon pitch. And unfortunately the demon pitch only tells you to do one thing: kill. It would be great if you could finish up my amp before the murderous demon pitch envelops you.
  9. Also, I think I've seen KGSS with both pro and normal bias sockets. Or am I just making up a memory again? I do enjoy my fake memories.
  10. actually i think hungry is one of those old men who pretends to be a 16 year old on the internet. I admit I enjoy using the occasional "lol" in my typing. Hard to shake a year of World Of Warcraft.
  11. I just did a test based on this theory. When I plug in my RS-1s without the extension cable, with none of my sources on, and I crank the volume all the way up to the max, I do hear the faintest of a buzzing noise. So it sounds like yes, the extra cable length is actually giving the signal more room to develop, therefore I am noticing this buzzing noise inbetween songs when at a normal listening level when using the extension. I notice this buzzing to a lesser extent when I plug in my GS1000, which is recabled with 10 ft Black Dragon, and again crank the volume to the max with no source on. Since the buzzing isn't source, can, or cable dependent, it must be something emanating from deep within my amp. The amp is a Veda Audio Dynahi SA. Its a badass amp but its bootleg as hell. Thanks Smeggs!
  12. So I'm listening to a record, and on a whim I plugged up my Grado 15ft extension cable to give my RS-1 a little room to move (damn Grado stock cable is too damn short damn it). At the end of the side, I stand up to flip the record, and notice a buzzing noise coming through the headphones that was previously undetectable when the music was playing. I unplugged the Grado extension cable (because I've always been suspicious of it) and just plugged my headphones straight into the amp. The buzz goes away completely! My question: how can a cable be so crappy that it actually introduces noise into the system?
  13. Welcome to head-case George! It sounds like you will fit in just fine here. Actually I think the majority of the regular posters around here probably fall more into the mid-fi realm, though we are very happy to have our high-fi friends around as well.
  14. Omega II MK1.
  15. Limbaugh is one of the aforementioned wall street republicans. he is part of the ingenius republican machine that uses bullshit social issues to get poor people to vote against their economic interests. He hates John McCain because McCain doesn't pander to him or the rest of the crazy right wing talk radio.
  16. postjack's calls: Clinton wins, McCain wins. McCain gets Huckabee as his running mate to court the populist republican/evangelical vote. The Wall Street republicans grudgingly rally behind McCain even though they hate him, because they hate Hillary more. McCain stomps Hilary in the Fall, unless Clinton does end up getting Obama as a running mate. Then we have a competition on our hands, and I have to rework my predictions.
  17. DIY SS FTW. Also it is nice to be the beneficiary of Mike's revolving door gear policy.
  18. No kidding, I'm definitely putting these on my Short Stat List.
  19. You mentioned studying, which is why I mentioned speed. Adderall, Ritalin, etc. All that shit will keep you awake, even if the effects seem to have long worn off. Still, regular aerobic exercise is my best suggestion. Get that heart racing with some biking or running 30 minutes a day.
  20. Thanks for the impressions. Those grills look like they'd mess up the sound. Apparently they are abandoning the 1.3 look altogether, and reverting back to a black version of 1.2 (1.2b?). This just going off what I read on the Head Direct site.
  21. yeah that to.
  22. Exercise. And if you take speed stop taking it.
