Kind of interesting how there is no daily recommended allowance % for sugar on nutrional labels right? I haven't read that book but just watched the "Fed Up" documentary Katie Couric did. Focuses mostly on sugar, "big food", and childhood obesity. Some really crazy stuff. Very similar to big tobacco in the 80s, as you said. I believe that sugar is insanely addictive.

Melody and I started watching "Enlightened" on HBO GO the other night, anyone watch this? Took me two episodes but I really started to enjoy it. I'm not sure exactly how the series wants the audience to view its characters (which is part of what makes it so interesting), especially the lead, who is really masterfully played by Laura Dern, but here's my view on the plot anyway. Basically a woman who is full of anger and totally self-absorbed goes to a very new-agey hippie "rehab" of sorts in hawaii to get a hold of her anger/depression, and comes back to the real world and finds its really, really hard to apply those principles you learned to real life. Especially when you are still full of anger and totally self-absorbed. Pretty awesome show so far, we watched 4 episodes last night I think. Touching at times, laugh out loud funny at times, frustrating at times.

Neil Young claims he was working on an audiophile iPod with Steve Jobs

I think it would be cool to offer the same lossy streaming, but when storing a track locally, an option to download the track in lossless. -
Dude whenever I get a new sub you can have my old SVS, just have to figure out how to get it to you. Its the entry level model from several years ago but its still enormous.
-
The PB is just too damn big for me. I have an old cylinder svs now, great performer but still an eye sore. Thus my desire for an SB in gloss black. Smaller, simple, and clean.
-
I've honestly never considered a non-svs sub. Kind of want my next sub to be my "last" sub. Could this outlaw really compete with a top of the line svs?
-
I probably should upgrade my sub before anything. Hoping after I pass the CPA exam to convince the wife I need an SVS SB13 Ultra. Need more boom boom.

Swans are awesome. Darkness.

Sure, I'll admit that the way a product makes me "feel" has a lot to do with why I spend my money on things. I've only really become aware of the strength of this aspect of consumerism recently (including if I "feel" like I paid too much for something than feel like a dumbass later) Take any given modern day smartphone. Sure there are differences, and some different features, but its not like it used to be a few years ago. Some things that were true in the past but not so much anymore: -Apple's app store is far superior to the google play store/market/whatever. Now mostly any app is available in either store. -Android has a much sloppier/laggier user experience. This was true until Android got its shit together. -Phone X has better hardware than Phone Y. Still true but we've generally reached a point where most "premium" phones all have kick ass hardware sufficient enough to make the phone do what it do. -Android is too fragmented. The google suite of apps and cloud has pretty much eliminated this for me. So in most of the big departments the phones are equal for most average users (like me), aside from screen size and physical build. And then there is brand loyalty, which I think deals with one's past concerning a product's reliability/after market service, but also an emotional element, the aforementioned "feeling". Anyway, this is just all my analysis of myself, I can't necessary extrapolate this to everyone else.

If you are in the market for a new receiver, Denon and Marantz are releasing new models, and the 4520CI and SR7008 are seeing price drops. Actually the best of the price drops may be past, Best Buy and Amazon were selling the 4520CI for $1,000 for a single day last week. The lower end models are getting price drops as well, but the SR7008 and 4520CI both have Audyssey XT32. I keep telling myself I'm fine with my current receiver. I really am.

Excited to see Apple finally embrace the bigger screen. If they would've done it a few years ago they would've kept my business. The pic above about comparing the features to the Nexus 4 did make me laugh, but really a phone isn't about features to me anymore, its about "is this phone awesome to use and kick ass". My new Sony Z Ultra is awesome to use and kick ass. I'm sure the big iPhone is too, I'm just an android guy now. Looking forward to headcaser's impressions, if anyone gets the big 'un.

ooh i like engraved better than infinite dark.

The current generation of new receivers are equipped with Dolby Atmos, a new sound technology that adds channels for ceiling speakers. 3.1 is still fine for me.

I can name one place this would never happen. Its my forum.

http://www.expansys-usa.com/sony-z-ultra-google-play-edition-unlocked-lte-16gb-black-263504/ Just bought the Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition from expansys for $335. Definitely a niche device, here is a quick list of pros/cons after owning the device for <24 hours: PROS: 6.4" screen, wonderful display, easy on the eyes. Top notch fit and finish, the phone is all glass and metal. Very clear call volume, even with people who I previous thought just had shitty phones. This is relative to the Nexus 5 call volume, my previous phone. Everything is super fast, as really all phones should be these days. Micro SD slot can hold a 64gb card. Phone is water resistant, if you are in to that Power input is at the top left corner of the phone, instead of the bottom. I like this for some reason. Standby/power switch is on the middle right of the phone, and is a round, silver metal button. Much better to put the switch here instead of the top right on a phone this size. Volume rocker is right below the power switch. Remarkably thin for a phone of this size GPE so you will always get the latest android update (running 4.4.4 right now) CONS: The phone is enormous. Fits fine in dress slacks and shorts pockets, but I imagine it won't work with jeans. All glass/metal design and the phones thinness could make it very easy to drop. Little flaps over all the inputs due to the water resistant nature of the phone, except the headphone jack which is somehow still water resistant A bit hefty weight wise, but this also adds to the solid feel of the phone. Your significant other and friends will make fun of you and your enormous phone. But they are just jealous. Camera doesn't have flash, but flash always ruins pictures for me anyway. Haven't had the opportunity to test the camera so I can't comment on overall quality.

Tom, NwAvGuy hasn't been active here, or anywhere on the internet, for a long time. I don't believe anyone here knows how to contact him.

That is definitely Blue Jeans speaker cable the cinder block guy is using. Judging by the appearance of his room, he might be the most unpretentious audiophile ever.
-
not sure about the bag of feed on the speakers there. cinder blocks look tight though.
-
I love Joan Rivers. If you didn't see her appearance on "Louie" check it out, she was amazing. RIP
-
Will these Nissan still points you speak of fundamentally change the sound signature of the speakers? I prefer to start with a transducer I despise and tweak it until it is acceptable.
-
Before any listening session with the HD800 I rub my hands together briskly to generate heat, then carefully place them over the cable. The ensuing warmth adds a certain "hors d'oeuvres" quality to the sound, not unlike a crunchy chicken and cheese wrap. This process is like a heat lamp for the soul of the music. It also always makes me vomit and cry uncontrollably, but it so worth it to hear the purity of Dianna krall or whatever.

I have not heard them, that is purely taken from reviews.

Arcade Fire are fantastic live. The first time I saw them I wasn't a big fan of their studio material, so I went into the show skeptical, but came out a huge fan. They are gracious, appreciative of their fans, and a hell of a lot of fun. And "Wake Up" is amazing every time.

My friend here in town actually has a pair of Cornwalls he is trying to sell. They do sound awesome. I already have one big ass pair of speakers, I don't think Melody would want me to bring in another big ass pair.

Thanks nums. I'm pretty happy with my PSB bookshelves + svs sub for my rock/HT rig, but am always curious about these older designs that have been around forever. Also waiting here getting my AC fixed and was bored, so I started this thread.
