Jazz recorded properly in stereo (ie not mono elements hard panned) does image as well.

Darth Nut's review of the O2 made imaging and headstage fairly clear to me. The O2 do image well with non-binaural recordings. I have yet to hear a binaural classical recording that blew me away, usually they are only just as good or slightly worse than well miced recordings (ie Everest which are really good). The one's that are really impressive like hearing voices behind you or doors slam behind you are gimmicks Imaging doesn't exist with studio rock. Even on speakers you are only hearing the isolated differences in the mix, it's not really imaging.

I am just speaking from comparing my 1200 to a couple of really nice Garrards. I'd rather mod a SP-10 than go further with the 1200. The SP-10 MK2 has a considerably better motor and platter, whereas the 1200 has a low inertia system so DJs can quickly start and stop the platter with their hands.

Etymotic and the utter failure of the new foam tips
deepak replied to n_maher's topic in Portable Audio
Nate those new tips look like the foamies that came with the im716, I agree they are fail. I put up with the triflanges, but they kill my ears after an hour or so. -

Are you sure it was Magnepan that put them out of business? I was under the impression the speakers didn't sell well due to the outrageous amp requirements, and with far fewer choices in high power solid state back then thus spelling death to the company. I don't Haj, the image came up randomly in the Audiogon staff pics cool images.

Have you noticed the clubfoot disappears when they start running? I think it's an act to look slower than they really are. Fools those silly humans.

A nice Hendrix oil painting for the listening room, 23x23" and on gallery wrapped canvas so it doesn't need a frame

How is higher order zombie cortical function maintained if their heart isn't pumping blood to their brain, are their brains exploiting some other form of metabolic activity other than through the use of oxygen? The brain is still clearly their weak spot, so it is controlling some autonomic life functions Could one head control a zombie through their eye sockets or would a zombie simply laugh at such a human like tactic? Can a zombie laugh, if so what comedy program do they enjoy

Thanks Marc and jp. I suppose there is a strong desire simply for some change right now. The SL-1200 is a good work horse, but it is a clear bottleneck in my system. "It's hard to really characterize the differences though, where when I compare to direct drive setups for example it's an obvious across the board improvement" Marc is this a Technics SP10 Mk2/3?

Anyone hear enjoy a good blast in the 3 digit range now and again?
deepak replied to immtbiker's topic in Miscellaneous
Heh I have a friend that won't wear a helmet any time. His reasoning- "I'd rather be dead than be a paraplegic if I'm in an accident" [sic]. I'm pretty sure he doesn't wear a helmet so he can be cool, I rarely see the Harley crowd wearing them here. More sport bike users have them on. He's a redneck -

Heh it was a Koenigsegg that was way under reporting past 200 mph on one show. A regular speedo is going off tire rotations so they can't be expected to be accurate at really high speed. -

I think the regular speedos are usually quite off in cars as well at really high speeds. The no helmet law in NH is utterly mental. Same with the seatbelts aren't required over 18. -

I'm going to throw this out there in the hopes someone might know something. I have been sitting on a few Lencos for a while and from everything I have been reading a lot of work needs to be done to them before they are elevated to the level of truly top tier. At the moment I lack the skills and equipment to even think about starting this project and the modders are all fairly boutique with boutique prices to boot. My local group enablers are telling me to get a Garrard 301, which will be much more plug and play plinth wise compared to a Lenco. What do you guys think? It seems the 301s are now in the $2000 range, but I haven't bought any source gear in a while so I could splurge for one assuming the previous info was true.

Did HeadRoom discontinue the Desktop Ultra DAC?
deepak replied to Knuckledragger's topic in Home Source Components
Thanks Nate I do appreciate the additional information and value your opinion highly on the matter. I still feel they are owed some time to see if they do come out with new amps or DACs. FWIW to my knowledge I've never bought anything from Headroom or owned Headroom equipment. I only remember they were up there with Headamp in the recommendations they used to receive around here. -

It's a bit perplexing reading about all the negativity over Headroom. I understand Tyll isn't there any more, but how about giving them a chance before jumping to conclusions? Mentioning SinglePower in the same sentence is simply insulting. Headroom didn't take his money and then not send anything. No charge was made; a far cry from what Mikhail was doing. As for them not being innovators, do you think the economy could be playing a certain role in this? Is it wise to be spending money on developing new products if sales are destined to be dismal?
