  1. That's understandable. I never thought about running a tube preamp into a headphone amp.
  2. Nice work Californians Warning, 143 page thread ahead
  3. Just wondering how you felt the 009 compared tonally with the HD800?
  4. What would be an example of a "lush" DAC/CDP? From measurements I have seen most are pretty close to flat to 10 KHz. Differences in harmonics, attack/decay, filters, detail, etc might make something more or less pleasing to someone, but that won't change the frequency response of a headphone. I would think a better solution would be EQ'ing on your computer/other hardware.
  5. Happy birthday Doug!
  6. Nice work. Pics of those 1200 holes?

    Top Gear

They aren't. Every series has only been 5-7 episodes of original content.
  8. Which version?
  9. Happy birthday Doug!
  10. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - The Dead Flag Blues set to some edited Half Life 2 footage. Quite good.
  11. Has anyone that has ordered these Aavid heatsinks verified they work with the onboard amp boards and power supply? Mounting distance of 25.4 mm is identical to the 64E Ohmite (what the BOM I have specifies), but just want to be absolutely sure. 15. Good to know about the HV The earth rumbling bass on my BH/007 mk1 was quite addictive, but still so controlled and only called for when the recording had massive bass.

I owned several of the HDADs (sold them to Dusty) and have a bunch of Everest titles on vinyl put out by Classic Records. The vinyl is some of the best sounding classical titles in my collection. Beware that many of them have some nasty wow that was due to something that went wrong in the film playback on mastering (present on both the vinyl and HDAD, so it's not just a symptom of the vinyl. It is usually only present for 5-10 seconds in one spot). One that I can unequivocally recommend is Fountains of Rome/Pines of Rome. IMO they do sound better on vinyl as Bernie used a more forgiving tube cutter head that gives them a nice pleasant coloration. The HDADs are comparatively much drier and sound like 80s classical CDs. I might have some needle drops someone did on the SH forum and the corresponding HDAD snippet; the differences are quite big. FWIW I have heard more than one mastering engineer say the 35 mm format for audio was more or less a gimmick. I suspect what makes some of the Everest releases sound so good is they borrowed micing techniques from Mercury.
  17. Doug I shall inform HPA to add you to his PM list of KGSSHV builders
  18. Yeah the Vent was so much better than in game voice
  19. Everyone please use Vent instead of in game chat. The Vent server has really good sound quality. I am setting up my mic now
  20. Unchained Reaction- teams built Rube Goldberg machines judged by Jamie and Adam of Mythbusters. Reminds me of the UK Scrapheap Challenge.
  21. Meadowlands stadium doesn't have a Sunday service?
  22. This is awesome news. I did not want Tebow Mania coming to New England after hearing Belechik and McDaniels are Tebow lovers. Might have been fun to see him used as a half back, full back, etc in that wacky offense, but in the end... go Jets, go! Tebow can do anything, put him on the offensive line! 6.8 million over 3 years.... holy crap
  23. "What's Better Than Killing Dragons?" Stealing someone's mansion then spending countless hours, upon hours decorating it with loot.
  24. Correct me if I am wrong, but the L2 is not a hybrid if you are meaning hybrid as in an amp that has a tube and SS gain stage.
