  1. Thanks Nate my email is (removed) I've done more research into the Sapphire. I don't think I'll be able to get one of the modern ones in my price range. And at this point I don't really want to buy vintage or buy something that I have to piece together, etc. I've been doing some searching at AA and people are split on the HW19 mkiii vs Scout issue, many saying the JMW9 is a big improvement to the new line. I suppose with such a big purchase I should try and hear before buying.
  2. Where are you guys seeing this? I looked under used gear and searched for Scout and nothing turned up. Thanks for the heads up, I might give Todd a call. Though I was hoping to only buy one after selling my current setup :
  3. The comfort can be improved by bending the headband. For the SR-225 I suggest flat pads. Or Sennheiser HD414 pads- very cheap and might be easier to get outside the US.
  4. Thanks for the recs guys. What makes the Sapphire a better table than the Scout? And what are one the "good" arms for the Sapphire in my price range?
  5. I think I'm going to forgo my desire to get a Rega P3, I doubt it would be a huge upgrade from my current MMF-5. And I've received some feedback from the SH forums saying as much. The MMF-5 is a great table, I'd just like to make another intermediate jump before going all out. So I've budgeted $1000 plus or minus a little bit for just the turntable and arm. I'm open to spending a decent percentage on the cart as well. But I want to figure this part out first. The VPI Scout/JMW9 is at the top of my list, even though I know a couple of people here aren't fans. And I won't have any problems selling it which is also a big plus. And I've heard a nicely modded Aries3 on numerous occasions and it's the type of sound that worked for me. The Scout is really the only table coming to mind at the moment. This won't be my final upgrade since I've really started to enjoy my vinyl setup I don't have a problem shelling out big bucks for a really nice one somewhere down the line. Thanks guys! edit: so associated equipment (since my signature doesn't tell the whole story): B22/K1000 and Blue Hawaii/Stax OII will be the two setups I'll be using it with. Phono stage at the current time is a CA 640p, but I'll be upgrading that as well.
  6. Buy dummy head and pro mics Measure Stax OII Tax write off the dummy head/pro mics Add infos to headamp.com Everyone wins
  7. Yeah that's another option as well that spritzer mentioned to me a while ago. In the end I'll probably keep the Lambdas, I love them too much
  8. That bias supply isn't looking so bad right now
  9. Just curious if I was looking to move away from a bias box/power amp, would the first Gilmore designed all tube amp be a good match with the SR-Lambda? I decided that I don't really want two bias supplies in the Blue Hawaii, especially if I'd never be using the Lambdas in that setup. Instead using the Lambdas in an alternative setup (office, bedroom?)
  10. Are there any other clients better than the default one for XP? Thanks.
  11. Yep my clear is Southern Lord and Inoxia.
  12. This might be one of those urban legends, but I read somewhere the non-black vinyl is made from virgin raw material since it's colored, whereas a lot of plants pressing black vinyl are using recycled material. So the colored vinyl in some cases will sound better. My sample size is really small, but my clear vinyl sounds great
  13. The K81dj which seems to have fallen off the face of the earth might fit your needs. There is lots of bass impact since it's a closed design. They are uncomfortable with the stock pads though.
  14. That's fine. To me they weren't lacking in punch in the least bit. I did prefer my amp rolled with some more organic sounding tubes. What the HP-1000 lacks is the very last bit of low and high end frequency extension. But still extremely musical to me. I just can't accept the prices they go for, plus the fact that drivers will probably no longer be available when Joe Grado isn't with us. I'm actually looking for a turntable and arm combination in the $1000 price range (used is fine). Any suggestions?
  15. Yeah you'll make a few g's off a haunted amp. I wish I had one.
  16. The HP-1000 were very, very musical on my SHA. Great combination. But I prefer a headphone that doesn't add much to the music.
  17. I'd take an HP-2 over an RS-1 as well. HP-1000 series are something else... Tonally the SR-Lambda is very close, and matches them musically.
  18. Finished Sens vs Leafs Bruins vs Canadiens
  19. What's playing on your Nottingham?
  20. I know the feeling to want something really badly once you hear it. He has the speakers that I've been lusting for so long, completely in a different class from everything else I've heard. If the Kuzma is a big step up from his modded Aries3 he said he'll be buying it. Which means I'll either end up really wanting it, or will be seriously considering getting his Aries3. Either way lose/lose for me
  21. Very cool I really hope I can make to NH while he has it.
