You might have a tough time getting non-absorbable silk unless you know a pharm rep. If I recall the practice sutures that we used as med students was just fishing line (Prolene, PDS, etc). And these are the ones pharm reps bring when sponsoring these sessions, you'll only find the silk in the OR. They also come in pre-made packs with the needle so you would probably have to tie the threads together to get more than a meter or so.

I've had my DA-500 for a few months now and it is definitely a very nice source. I've done some comparisons with the North Star, and the NS is the clear winner, but it was also about 10x more expensive (I tried to open it up to take pictures, but the screws are in too tight, I was just stripping them ) Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.
