  1. I am definitely not knocking the Ultra Analog DSP, that was never my intention. I haven't heard a DAC using the Ultra Analog yet. I do like the 1704 DAC/CDPs I've heard and I'm itching to hear the SimAudio Andromeda. I haven't made it down to Goodwins yet, on call on this rota leaves me with no free time. I might get a chance at the start of March.
  2. When someone says something is dark or bright, I always take age into consideration as well. Like it or not, the ability to hear high frequencies does diminish with age I can hear the treble of the SR-007 MK1 extend up as far as I can hear (~18 Khz or there about). Then there are headphones like the SR-404 that have a upper mid/low treble boost, that gives them the illusion of being well extended, but frankly I doubt it extended past 14 KHz (or the SRM-313 was just a really junk amp that severely limited FR extension).
  3. I find this interesting that the Levinson 30.5 to 30.6 upgrade (that Levinson would do for a fee) involved going from 2 x UltraAnalog D20400A+PMD100 to 4x PCM1704... The 30.6 remains in the top digital I've heard.
  4. The Levinson 30.6 must be an approaching ten year old design, doesn't make it any less good today than it was ten years ago...
  5. Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Art Blakey - The Brothers
  6. Esoteric- The Maniacal Vale Newest doom metal album from these Bri'ish doom metallers. Good stuff.
  7. Popol Vuh - Aguirre, The Wrath of God (Soundtrack for the film)
  8. Pink Floyd - A Saucerful of Secrets (US first pressing cd)
  9. I am afraid I will have to challenge you to a game of Bacarat over this matter
  10. IMO from owning the Bel Canto DAC2, there is nothing special about it. In fact it sounds pretty bad in the same vein as Benchmark DAC1.
  11. I bought a controller for my computer once, and the sticker on the wire said it could give me bladder cancer. pffft
  12. Popol Vuh - Aguirre, The Wrath of God (Soundtrack for the film)
  13. I've run some searches, and I don't know where I read that it might have used custom Sowter transformers (maybe I have it in my head that Pete likes Sowter transformers?). I thought it was the thread Nate created announcing the amp, but no mention there. Unless the description was changed on the ttvj website. Sorry about the misinformation.
  14. What is the other guess? I see someone name dropped Electraprint already

  16. Though I don't see this on the ttvj.com webpage, I thought I read that the transformers are custom wound by Sowter. And I find it amusing that we derailed this thread to a 307A thread

    Battlestar Galactica

The second part of this season has been so good. I am really liking this new direction they're taking
  18. Morrissey - Years of Refusal disappointed
  19. Yeah I can ask him about that. It is a great album.
  20. I use SoX after ripping CDs with EAC (which detects pre flags). Most of my CDs with pre-emphasis are early pressed Japanese or European discs. Though after hearing CDs I've de-emphasized with SoX on a good speaker system I'm hearing the "collapsing of the soundstage" effect that others have reported. My guess is that it's applying more EQ to the "air" region of the treble which is causing the undesired constricted effect. I was going to try Wavlab when I had some free time. The manual EQ in foobar2000 also works quite well (I can look up the settings if anyone wants them), though I've only tried this with my Stax setup and not with speakers.
  21. Was it a straight swap with the stock Technics tonearm or did you have to mod the plinth?
