  1. ... Regarding the professional review front- maybe the reason many reviewers don't compare what they're reviewing to other products is they might actually have to say something *gasp* negative about the product being reviewed
  2. They're not as refined/transparent as the modded Yamaha, but they're still good.
  3. John Zorn - Filmworks XIV Hiding and Seeking
  4. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Africaine
  5. The T50RP are good when modded especially given how cheap they are. I will try some torture test music tomorrow.
  6. It's either j-pak, jpak or deepak. I haven't logged in, in a long time. I think what made it hard about cataloging was "rating" your music. I rate most of the crap I own fairly highly...which is why I own it, so it didn't seem to make sense when I was giving most things over a 3.0
  7. I have an account there and attempted to catalog my music as well. After a handful laziness kicked in and I gave up I think I broke the 3000 barrier for CDs sometime this month (or last) :-0
  8. Is RateYourMusic a good site for finding new bands?
  9. Now I feel he is just genuinely being disingenuous as he had this in the first post of the meet organization thread: The "Victim of Success spin" is really a crock
  10. John Zorn - Filmworks XIV Hiding and Seeking
  11. And yet the most balanced orthos are the ones with average sized drivers. The T50v2 (and clones) with these massive drivers have extremely poor treble response. In the world of electrostats, where the SR-007 driver isn't that big, it probably has the best bass, extension and depth of any electrostatic headphone. It's all good in theory that large drivers = good. But it has to translate into real world examples as well.
  12. IMO that's a huge over simplification which I disagree with.
  13. Welcome aboard orto-head I received my T50RP (with new style pads ), time to start modding them.

    Top Chef

I gave this show a chance. The judges have no balls, Tom is ok, but he is still far too nice. The new British guy was much needed, though it's obvious Padma hates him
  15. Good thing for us you're on dial up
  16. re: fuck off my folk music > yuo The folk subgenre does have some cool shit though.
  17. TdP "king of everything" ? I remember reading an article where he said he could make an SS circuit sound exactly like a tube one, but chose to use tubes because they were "in fashion"
  18. I have no idea, I only listened to them for a few minutes.
  19. Keeping the other tubes the same in the ES-1 and just swapping out the quad of EL34s, how big is the difference between various EL34s?
  20. They look like toys, so I was all "pffft" when Faust3d told me to listen to them at the NY meet. And then the bass hit...
  21. Hehe the little HP-50 is an awesome headphone
  22. Good god the SFI 120 must be a beast if the Yamy is middling in comparison My stock HP-1 made most of the amps I tried cry, and in modded form...
  23. Are you guys sure it isn't just the gain being set high on your mini3s? I have a hard time believing battery power could drive a tough load like the ortho presents. I'm convinced they need really powerful amps after hearing most fail horribly. I have a very high gain tube amp (gain 22 I think?) that gives the illusion of driving the Yamy properly, but it's a whole different beast on powerful amps.
