  1. The North Star is a good DAC, but my PCM63 DAC sounded better as well.
  2. Probably inspired by the original Xana, which is IMO his best looking amp http://www.mothmuseum.com/mothaudio/xanahi.html
  3. It's a really good D/A converter. Old, but still currently in production and used by many top tier DACs/CDPs. The best DAC I've heard uses a PCM1704, and others here like it as well.
  4. Henry Cow - 40th Anniversary box set, Disc 2: Volume 2 (1974-1975)
  5. Nice. I didn't even know Tom Morello was in a new band (not counting Nightwatchman).

    World of Goo

I've been playing this for a couple of weeks and this is one of the more fun physics based puzzle games I've played. And I do enjoy my physics games World of Goo is an indie developed game that has you use blobs of goo to try and build structures that will lead the goo to their freedom by an exit pipe. The game starts off very easy, but ramps up in difficulty pretty quickly. World of Goo Free demo on Steam and the system requirements aren't high. Youtube trailer:
  7. Acquired by other means... Maybe if I can sell some more gear I'll order it from ReR.
  8. last night Henry Cow - 40th Anniversary box set, Disc 1: Beginnings

    Battlestar Galactica

But she is such a cutie Plus the entire human (real) population is all doomed without a battlestar to defend them so why not go all out for one last mission of glory instead of floating in outer space until Cavil's fleet inevitably finds and destroys them. As genuinely heartfelt as these new cylons that have aligned themselves with the humans seem to make themselves out to be, I have no doubt they'd leave in a split second when Galactica falls apart. They know they are capable of reproduction within themselves, they really have no need to stick around with a bunch of dead weight...
  10. It's true he'd have to convert it to PCM, but apparently the SQ recording to DSD is really good. I think he authors the high res PCM to DVD-A format for playback.
  11. Al you might be interested in this device: http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=154980 Records straight to DSD. I guess the thread starter is pretty happy with his and has made a lot of high res needle drops with it. edit: sorry not sure why it won't let me directly link to the SH thread...says internal link and points back to Head-Case

    Seriously?

    Condom machines in confessionals then?
  13. I hope you stripped that car of those worthless dynamic drivers
  14. "After reading a recent report by laptopmag.com that cited Office Depot stores for ordering its sales clerks to tell customers that “sale” laptop computers were out of stock—unless the customers first agree to purchase software as well as extra cost, extended warranties and in-store set-ups (see link here)—the HD Guru went undercover to investigate sales and price matching policy performance at local Best Buy outlets." When I used to work at Best Buy (Christmas season) I have had managers tell me directly not to sell cheap PCs to customers unless they were buying accessories like cables, anti virus software, etc. And this was almost ten years ago It was a hot time and most of the low to medium priced computers stayed in stock less than a couple of days. Asking employees to lie to people to improve sales = lose
  15. I know two large mastering studios in Chicago that didn't pay for most of their expensive gear. And this is just rumor- but Chord donated all its gear used in Abbey Road Studios to them.
  16. I wouldn't take this to mean a whole lot. Often times they are given the gear for free or at a very significant discount since it's basically free advertising for said manufacturer.
  17. pfft Dusty is just being a crankasaurus. Or has a case of the Mondays
