  1. When you said "well recorded and mastered stuff", I took it as compression that isn't added by the hand of the mastering engineer. I assure you there is no harshness in the DCC CDs, and there wasn't any harshness in the Esoteric gear with them either. I just don't think the Esoteric players I have heard, sound natural tonally even with reference level CDs. The DCC CDs were made in the 90s. However the music on his current label- Audio Fidelity sounds just as good as those 90s CDs and they were released between 2005- present day.
  2. Yes I know the image is grossly distorted, running a GIS I couldn't find a better image of a RBCD sine wave. The DCC Gold CDs use no compression in the digital or analog domain. You can pop into the Steve Hoffman forums and ask him yourself if you doubt this. You are correct I listened to the SA-60 and the DVD-V playing variant Dreadhead which Esoteric players have you listened to to defend them so much?
  3. Would you consider music on the DCC label to be well mastered? I think it is, and it still didn't sound good on the SA-50. Maybe SACDs are another matter, I only tried RBCD. Then again it could be the Esoteric being true to the RB 44.1 KHz sampling rate in which case it will make any RBCD sound like shit anyway
  4. And Dream Theater's singer has always sucked.
  5. This must be an updated SA-50? The one I heard didn't have digital inputs or USB. I also didn't think it sounded that good; far too unnatural tonally.
  6. The O2 headband elastics do wear out though, so it's probably best not to put strain on it all the time.
  7. I'm a long time Wings fan as well
  8. Wings - Wings at the Speed of Sound (DCC gold)
  9. With the Transit you select between the various sample rates in the software menu.
  10. XP (32 bit and 64 bit). Completely forgot about Vista
  11. With Foobar2000 you don't even need ASIO, you can select "M-Audio Transit" in the output menu and you automatically get bit perfect (tested with the DTS pass through track to a receiver).
  12. Which DAC/digital filter does the Weiss DAC2 use? Enjoy!
  13. It can do 24/96 through the optical out.
  14. Birgir, nice work with the mods! I can see where you're coming from when you say that the soundstage gets a bit smaller when the upper midrange coloration is lessened. In my experience headphones which project a larger "soundstage" is based in large on two things: a) driver distance from the ears emphasis on upper mids and c) (lesser extent) angling drivers away from the ear
  15. The Inbetweeners. This show is brilliant.
  16. Back in the day when postjack call someone a MoT, our ears done perk up
  17. Yeah this is pretty much how it is. All those worthless Canadian dollars spent on so many hockey cards
