  4. Yeah I imagine he is making some money off shipping. But speaking to the Lenco Heaven guys most places in the US would be at least $500++ plus shipping. Thanks for the feedback Steve, means a lot coming from you. I like the Jean Nantais style veneer as well.
  5. Thoughts on plywood as an L75 plinth? I might finally be able to get this project off the ground plinth lenco l70,l75 - eBay (item 200459028877 end time May-07-10 12:54:57 PDT)
  6. Great to hear about the sound arrival! Stay safe.
  7. Dinny I'd love one if they were cheaper. At the end of the day this is still something I enjoy for fun so I do not utilize rigorous blind testing at every opportunity. If the Darwin source selector ends up working out then that might be a viable solution for myself. I think blind testing is a lot more fun in groups as well and I'm lucky to have a crowd that likes to geek out about that sort of stuff (all being or having been in academic medicine).
  8. I think it's easier to do when you have a firm grasp of the nuances of the particular source unit, in our test it was just a bunch of us with our own sources that didn't know the intricacies of the others (well I knew the Naim pretty well). Sort of like when people started the ABX trials between -aps encoded MP3s and lossless. The differences between the two are subtle, but if you know what to listen for with known samples that causes the LAME encoder problems (artifacts?) you can reliably distinguish between the two. DanC I think we go about finding "the sound" in a similar manner and look for the same things (but have very different tastes in music), so I can definitely appreciate your logic. Completely agree. I really enjoy KG's designs (another is Nelson Pass) and the sound that they go for is pretty much what I look for in high end gear. I can usually safely go out on a limb and trust either of their amps to suit my sound preferences.
  9. I know in the future I am going to try to be more objective with gear especially amps and DACs. We did a few double blind tests a while ago comparing some DACs and CDPs on a high end speaker system and it was difficult to distinguish the differences when we didn't know what we were listening to. The bias immediately entered the tests when we went back to traditional source switching.
  10. Good posts DanC and the thread title edit I made was all in good fun After seeing a lot of shenanigans pulled in high end audio I'm definitely a lot more careful with what I buy also given that it is more difficult selling gear in these times. And I do place stock in what a few people here say about gear as they have similar tastes as mine.
  11. March/April have been a great month for jazz Analog Productions 45 rpms: Pure Pleasure Records Charles Mingus - Dynasty Mosaic Records Charles Mingus - The Complete Candid Recordings (4 LP) Tina Brooks - The Complete Blue Note Recordings (4 LP) and Peter Gabriel 1, 2, 3, 4 from Classic Records (33 rpm) The Who - Tommy, Quadrophenia, Live at Leeds, Who's Next Classic Records (33 rpm)
  12. There is a rumor that Mosaic Records might be going out of business. So now might be the time to pick up any box sets you want. Thelonious Monk Complete Live At the It Club was one of my favorite jazz purchases from last year.

  15. The KX-R attenuator does sound really cool. Incredible sounding preamp too.
  16. Kevin Consider me very interested. I would prefer 4 unbalanced and 2 balanced inputs, IMO XLR/RCA adapters are not something I'd really want to use... As for the attenuator whatever is the most transparent. Only interested in 2 channels. And an optional phono board for LOMC maybe? (only half joking) -Deepak

    Canjam 2010.

I believe you can walk into Music Direct and buy directly from them. Their customer service guy is a Headfi'er as well
  18. High end home theater installers basically do this with custom interfaces. Jerry Rice has a home theater system controlled by a slate control screen that was programed for his home theater. http://www.hometheaterdesignmag.com/traditional/1006rice/ If the ipad has an IR port it's probably doable.
  19. The differences shouldn't be big. The BHSEs I have heard sounded very much like my BH- great control of the drivers and very high bandwidth. I know some people think they are bassy amps, I do not hear this. When the music has a lot of bass I can hear and feel the bass with the HE60 and O2. But say for example a lot of Blue Note jazz where Rudy Van Gelder often recorded the bassist further back in the mix, you hear the texture and depth of the bass but it is very soft and very much in the background. For example with my HD600/ EC HD300 wrt to the the Blue Note jazz the bass was often almost as forward in the mix as the rest of the instruments. This leads me to believe that either the electrostats and/or amp have more accurate frequency response or that the electrostats are far more spacially resolving.
