Holy Crap! The New Stax Omega Looks fierce! (Stax SR-009)
monsieurguzel replied to Jon L's topic in Headphones
This whole situation makes me happy that we went through with this pre-order early on. I can't imagine how long it will take for other orders to come through at this point....plus it doesn't help that the dollar keeps losing value... Btw, PJ is now listing it to 2-3 months...yikes -
Nice! Has it appreciated in value now that it's a collectible??

Holy Crap! The New Stax Omega Looks fierce! (Stax SR-009)
monsieurguzel replied to Jon L's topic in Headphones
So my question is now...do people think that the KGSSHV (@450v) will be a better match for the SR-009 or the BHSE (@400v)? I read in a post by KG on some other thread implying that since the KGSSHV is 450v and the T2 500v, that they are the ideal match for the new flagship. Anyone have any ideas/speculation or all all those amps up to par and we'd just be splitting hairs? -

Plus it's not like people here don't ever read the forums over there. There's absolutely no point in posting something twice...it's just asking for some whiplash -
Dammit you guys! You're making me want to go eat steak tonight!

Wish I could go this year but can't justify it. Sold off my turntable to fund a couple other things...so hopefully by next year I'll have a setup again so I can get great deals on a bunch of records. Btw, anyone who lives in LA needs to go to Record Surplus on Pico. Wonderful record store that has an insane selection of Classic Rock, Jazz, Classical, Opera, etc. I only wish they had contemporary stuff...but there'es always Amoeba Records for that

Just had a bottle of Dogfish Worldwide Stout a couple hours ago. Quite possibly the best beer i've had in my life! the fact that it has almost 20% alcohol makes it taste like a fine sweet cognac

Ye Macce Threade

I used to have a 1st generation Macbook air running at 1.8 ghz and it was insanely slow. Since the chasis is so tiny with no ventilation, the cpu used to always get throttled back whenever watching youtube videos..which basically meant that it couldn't play full screen videos without getting really choppy and the fan kicking in. We eventually sold the computer since it was so frustrating to use. I'm hoping the new version fixed a lot of these issues with a more power friendly processor and faster SSD. Either way, the Core 2 Duo used in the current iteration is pretty slow any way you look at it... I'd just wait if I were you. -

Man, about time! Cross my fingers that I'll get it without having to wait an entire year for this product.

Yeah, that momo guy in texas was super shady. I was actually looking into that amp and the SR-007s he was selling a while back and decided against it. The guy just rubbed me the wrong way and I think he got banned from HF for flipping too much equipment for a profit. God knows what he did with the amp while he had it. But yeah, I think that amp has been around...5+ owners is my guess. -

I also have an old 24" white intel imac. I've upgraded the harddrive twice and am now at a 2 tb internal drive. The ram though definitely doesn't go higher than 3gb. I tried popping in 2x2gb sticks a few years back and it wouldn't read any higher than the 3GB. -
I vote that if people are going to go through all the trouble and cost of building a KGSSHV with externally mounted heatsink fins, that the amp should run at a higher power than the previous incarnation. Otherwise deepak has a point that the other version is a lot easier to build with little/no audible difference.

You can definitely count me in a board run and a chasis run (if someone organizes one). I'm trying to set myself up to start DIY amps again over the summer. I feel that the KGSSHV and Dynahi would be plenty for me to handle for the next 6-8 months

Yeah, I just noticed that too the other day. I knew that they built a a modified Denon cartridges for some time but not the entire turntable. It is very cool, but it pretty damn expensive @ roughly $4500. Granted, I really like the sound of stock Denon tables and Zu tends to do a really good job with getting the right tonality in their equipment...so you never know. I have a pair of Zu Soul Superfly which I absolutely love...they might not be the end all be all for bass extensions, soundstage, etc. but they sound so right with just about any music I throw at them. With that in mind, I might someday consider one of those turntables Btw, I love this image the insid of the platter:

Yeah, it is a damn fine amp and is extremely neutral and uncolored. I feel really dumb selling mine off so fast, especially since they are so hard to come by. One of my more regrettable moves in my headphone journey... -
I have been through every single edition of that CD and have payed thousands of dollars hunting down for the perfect audiphile version over the years. I personally like the one issued in in 1984 pressed in E. Germany what has serial number S39784-5084. There are actually two version of this exact CD pressing, but the one that has the print of a monkey etched on the inside CD hologram is the ultimate version in every respect. j/k but that is pretty much what every post at SH sounds like when someone asks for advice on the 'best' edition of a certain pressing
-
What I don't understand is that the last 20+ releases from Audio Fidelity, which are all mastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman are all using HDCD for encoding the CDs. This was being done for years now. I don't understand how all of a sudden SH has got this revelation that HDCD process degrades the sound...shouldn't he have noticed this when first using it? I'm wondering if there is a different motive for dropping it like licensing fees or unpopularity of HDCD decoder boxes in the market.

Getting away from paying the 10% CA state tax on $50,000 is a good move by my book Heck, with the money saved, somebody deserves a free pair! -

Hey buddy, I stand by my words. Just because you happened to listen to the headphones a couple times in a crowded area and with a source that you are unfamiliar with, it doesn't automatically make you the end all be all authority of the Stax SR-009. I've been to enough meets and tried enough headpones to know that people's 5 minutes impression on headphones doesn't really mean anything at all. So when you go around preaching that you think people don't need anything more than a 727 since you don't have to turn the volume knob as high and don't have 'flabby bass' like on the SR-007, it kind of irks me. And then you have to nerve to call me disrespectful for arguing against you that your logic is BS. Oh and PS, I guess the people on this site building their own T2s in anticipation of the 009s are wasting their time then? -
Took apart my 3 year old iPhone 3G since I was bored. Now my proximity sensors don't work anymore...
