Well, to me, the RA-1 is just a cMoy in a wooden enclosure, and it sure sounds like it too. And on top of that, it's very over-priced.
-
Don't know if this counts as a myth, but I get annoyed to no end whenever I hear "you are not really a music-lover if you don't have X number of CDs/LPs and go to Y number of live shows per week." That really pisses me off. Oh, here's another one: Grado headphones match well with the RA-1 :mikey2:

Yup, definitely more convenient. But I think a power amp would be better if you really really really love your K1000s, which I do. So for me, the power amp is worth that last whatever extra percentage you get.
-
Thanks, but I'm not going to use the MPX to drive my K1000s, it'll be used just to drive regular headphones.
-
Thanks for the info man, but the pre-amp is not the number one priority on my list, because I plan to just run my DAC directly to the power amp. The pre-amp on the Singlepower will just be used when I feel like adding in the sound signature of the SP amps.

Cool, thanks for your opinion. I really like the impact on the K1000s, if only they extended all the way down. But I ain't complaining

Thanks for the info guys, I originally wanted a pimped out PPX like Tkam's, but then I realized that I could bypass the upgraditis by just going straight for a MPX.

The more I think about, the more I realize that I don't really want an Omega 2 setup, and all the RS-1 loving has really got to me, so now my target is on a RS-1 setup. I'm set on getting a Singlepower amp to mate with the RS-1s, so this thread is to get some good info. 1) I'm going to get a MPX3 as the base, with octal tube sockets for maximum flexibility. 2) Gain tube: So far I know you can use the 6SN7, 7n7, 7af7, and their 12/14v variants. I'm a bit wary of using the 6SN7 since good NOS 6SN7 are expensive as hell. And also, what does the 12v option do to the sound? If I get it, does that mean I can no longer use the 6v variants? 3) Output: I'm pretty much set on either the 6bl7 or the 6bx7, although I'm not sure what the differences between them are, or if they can be substituted for each other. 4) Bias/voltage: From what I understand, in order to run the 6bl7/6bx7, you gotta bias the tubes higher and run them at higher voltage. Is the regular MPX transformer enough for this, or do I need to install a Supra or Piltron transformer? 5) Pre-amp: I want to add a pre-amp option so I can use this to drive my power amp for my K1000s if I choose. My question is, how decent will it be?

Gotta agree with aerius, I fucking love the RS-1, much more than the GS1000, which to me, was Grado's attempt at doing the whole "neutral" thing, which ended up with recessed mids. So RS-1 FTW

Well, I just don't like AT phones period, something about them just doesn't jive with me, but no disrespect to them though.
-
J-Pak, you've heard both the K1000s and the O2+KGSS combo, which one has more impact?
-
Why? Not enough impact or just not fast enough?
-
LOL WTF?!
-
The FR graph looks pretty good, but I wonder how that will be altered when these speakers are placed in a real room instead of an acoustically-dead studio control room.

PETA? Does that stand for People for the Eating of Tasty Animals? But on a more serious note, I don't have anything against animals. After all, we need meat to survive, so it's inevitable that some animals must be killed for that purpose. I just don't get this animal olympics thing? Aren't there more interesting diversions than watching animals lift weights?

Looks like an Omega II is in my future because I'm not really concerned about bass impact, because the K1000 gives me plenty of impact down to about 45Hz where they start to roll off. So if an Omega II can give me better extension, it would make a nice complement.
-
Any reason why?
-
Yup, I feel like getting a second setup to complement my K1000 setup, and I'm trying to decide between an Omega II setup or a balanced HD650 setup. My Omega II will be amped by a KGSS, and the HD650s will be amped by a GS-X, when the new MOSFET modules are released. Basically, the intended goal of this secondary setup is to complement the K1000 setup, so I don't really want it to have a similar sound signature. So, what do you guys think?

http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=200501 Well, someone is wondering the same thing I'm wondering.
-
I'm torn at the moment as to whether I should get a balanced HD650 setup for my complementary rig or an O2 rig? Any comments? My main setup is in my sig, I'm just looking for something different.

When I talked to Justin, I asked what he honestly thought the upgrades were worth, and he told me that in his opinion, none of them are worth the money, so take that FWIW.
-
I just had an email exchange with Justin today, so people who are curious about the various upgrade options, here are the prices. 1) Silvier-wiring: +$175 2) Always-on bias supply: +$150 3) Blackgates: +$650 4) HE90 jack: +$100 5) Additional Stax jack: +$75 Current lead-time is about 4 to 6 weeks.
-
Sweet, now if only Justin can reply to my email
-
Well, an ES-1 is out of my budget, but do you consider a KGSS "proper" amplification?
-
@TheSloth: Thanks for the impressions. I'm pretty sure I won't hear the edge you mentioned in the upper-midrange, since I didn't hear that when I had the K701s. I would be really interested to read your impressions once you get the Signature 30.
