What modding company do you have in mind? And are you into hi-res formats?

Help me fix a hum on the Firstwatt F1/K1000
humanflyz replied to granodemostasa's topic in Headphone Amplification
You scared me there for a second, because I never heard hum from my F1. So don't mess it up dude -
Filburt brought his loaner AE-2 and his DIY PINT yesterday, and I had a chance to hear the two back to back for an extended period of time. Both are sourced by Filburt's DIY Technics PCDP, which is no slouch itself. I feel that his modified PCDP can easily go up against a "real" cd-player in the under-$1000 range. Yes, it's THAT good. Anyways, my experience was that the AE-2 is generally a very good portable amp, but in comparison to the PINT, it had a slightly exaggerated, forward sound. It's not aggressive per se, since I didn't hear any harshness, but it does not have the same soundstage depth as the PINT. Also, there's something slightly artificial about the AE-2's timbre. The AE-2 also did not go as deep in the bass as the PINT. Finally, the AE-2 was slightly less transparent than the PINT. But it's still the best commercially-available portable amp I've heard. The build quality is also top-notch, as Justin's products always are. I still can't believe he does the chassis by hand--that's just fucking insane. Overall I'd say the AE-2 has a nice energetic sound that made every recording, good or bad, enjoyable to listen to. It had no trouble driving everything I used, which includes the HD650s, ER-4Ps, the Denon D5000, and the K701s. It's pretty dynamic, and although the bass doesn't plumb the depths, it has nice impact and speed. Don't take my words that the AE-2 is not as good as the DIY PINT as a bad thing, since the two really aren't an apples-to-apples comparison, since Filburt pretty much modded his PINT to the MAXXX. I'll let him chime in on what the technological specs of his amp and source, because I didn't understand it anyways lol.

That would be me, since I found the L3000s to lack too much air for my tastes. Have you thought about getting a PS-1 J-Pak? Personally I found it to be better than the L3000s, IME.

I think it's a modded ASL amp, can't remember the name. -
Everybody is getting new sources (new DAC)

Wow that looks very nice, what's the kit called? -
I saw Hot Fuzz twice already, and yeah, awesome movie!

Spiderman 3 makes X-Men 3 merely mediocre by comparison, and when I first saw X3, I thought it sucked bad. I am trying to think of some redeeming features for the movie, and the only thing that I can think of is that it was hilarious, but not in the way the movie-makers intended, because I was laughing at all the inappropriate times, so I can't even give the movie-makers credit for that. The most hiliarious part is when Peter and Gwen Stacy are at the jazz club, and you can clearly see Willem Defoe sitting in the background, when his character is supposed to be DEAD. I liked Spiderman 2 a lot, so I was majorly disappointed by this poor showing.

@cotdt: dude you need it to tone it a down a bit. I remember your early Head-Fi posts on the K701s made you seem like a troll, and now you've changed your tune to sing the praises of the D2000s just as authoritatively, at least that's how I read your posts. Maybe you didn't mean them to sound that way, but perhaps you should either a) qualify your statements or don't post in every single thread that has something remotely to do with whatever equipment you have. After all, if I posted in every single thread there is about the stuff I own, I'd be doing nothing else.

Could this movie suck any more than it already does? I don't even know where to start: the shitty, cheesy dialogue, the horribly uneven pacing, under-developed villains, way too many musical numbers, I could go on and on.

I've been curious about how a radial speaker works and what are its supposed advantages or disadvantages when compared to traditional, forward-firing box speakers. Something about the idea intrigues me, although I've never heard a radial speaker before. More specifically, I'm thinking of about this: http://www.decware.com/newsite/RL15.htm. Interested in this because of its reported synergy with the FirstWatt F1. I was first turned on to Decware through aerius, who posted a link to one of the articles on that site regarding room treatment.

I dare you to sing this out loud in public: TWENTY-ONE, TWENTY-ONE But on topic: yeah, the K701s are pretty boring, and I don't know what AKG was thinking when they replaced the K1000s with this new "top of the line".

SPOILER Yeah, I will hard it extremely hard to believe that the writers will simply kill him off due to his centrality to the plot. But then again, they could just want to fuck with the fans. SPOILER
-
SPOILER Damn, this episode is fucking great, reminds me of why I watch Lost in the first place. Question: do you guys think Locke is actually dead? I fucking hope not, because he's probably my favorite character on the show. SPOILER

He's asking the interested parties why they want the HE60, and he will choose who to sell it to at the end, for $1000
-
That may all be true, but what about the human voice? To me it counts as an instrument, and the GS1000s don't do it for me there.
-
Of course I would never want to be caught in a situation where I would have to be forced to choose between the GS1000 and the RS-1; gimme a HP2 instead.
-
Yup, did not find the GS1000 to be neutral: to me the highs and lows are emphasized more than the midrange. Given that a perfectly neutral transducer is nearly impossible to come by, I'd rather choose a boosted midrange (a la RS-1) than boosted treble/bass.
-
Damn, how much did that cost you?
-
He sold them already
