Sounds like APL operates like Singlepower

Yeah, that is also my problem with the O2s as well, but I think they are great though.

For those of you who didn't pay: http://rapidshare.com/files/61508907/inrainbows.zip

Hater I'm pretty sure you can get it for free legally

I like to dive into things, audio or otherwise, with both feet.

It depends on how much money I can sell my Esoteric for. But most likely a VPI Scout

The Discbox is pre-ordered, but I have no turntable, but that just gives me an excuse to get a vinyl setup

Should I be worried about gain on TVCs? I don't think I listen that loudly, but certainly not at whisper-level either. I like to turn it up once in a while just to rock out and try to get some big dynamics going. More specifically, would a TVC have trouble with the output level of cartridges? The specific model that I might be interested in is the Bent Audio TVC, which uses a the S&B TX-102 transformer, and has up to 6db of gain.

Has anyone dealt with Perotta Consulting?

I bought my Esoteric from them, and they are good people to deal with. I think Reks got his Northstar from them too iirc -
Because he's in denial of the fact that if you want something good, you are going to have to pay. a lot.

I think there is some truth to the theory that the whole Denon AH-family phones are voiced differently. I recently got a pair of the AH-D1000s for portable, knock-around use, and they sound very different from the D5000s that I use to own. I was honeslty surprised because I thought that the whole line-up was voiced similarly, but apparently they might not be. I actually think the AH-D1000 sounds nothing like the D5000s, and if Denon actually made a full-sized version of D1000, that would sound better than the D5000s.

"We received a letter from a lawyer represeting the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and we need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this." It's now back up, but sucks for the Canadians.

Myth: 3 people every year die of rabies. Fact: 4 people every year die of rabies.

Yes, but how do you make that interesting or relevant to people who are no EE majors and have no idea what any of that means? I personally want to know, but my limits of understanding are pretty low since I'm a humanities student, and of course even among the knowledgeable types there are debates about the technical merits/disadvantages of certain designs, and after a point that debate becomes meaningless to non-engineers. But in my opinion the pendulum has swung too far in the lowest common denominator direction judging by mainstream audiophile reviews. Some sort of balance is needed between getting all the technical stuff right and conveying an intangible experience.
-
I think it's absolutely critical that the reviewer discloses his audio philosophy upfront and very explicitly before getting into whatever he's reviewing. I just don't see that happening all that often, and that's why I take these reviews with a big helping of salt. But the problem is that it takes a lot of experience listening to both live music and gear to be able to formulate a coherent and consistent audio philosophy, let alone articulate it to other people.

It plays just like Halo 2 (mostly), so that's either a good or bad thing depending on how you feel about the series as a whole. I personally like the mechanics, which while aren't the most innovative, feels fluid. I think the gameplay differences will only be appreciated by veteran Halo players, especially if you play multiplayer alot.

Thanks guys.

Okay, so I am saying that I am very excited about the release of the first Bernstein Mahler cycle on SACD and will most likely get them.

HOLY SHIT, I am definitely getting these.

Oh no, the 1TB incoming drive will be formatted in HFS+, and my current external NTFS HD, after I copy everything across, will be formatted in FAT32 for widest compatibility. I don't anticipate running into the 4gig file size limit, because I don't do video editing/ripping.
-
Well, here is my situation. I currently have a 300 gig HD in an enclosure that contains all of my lossless music. I have a 1 TB drive coming in that I will put in an enclosure. My question is, if I format the 1TB drive in HFS+, can I seamlessly and reliably transfer files from my NTFS drive to the HFS+ one? If I can get an answer quickly enough, I might just get the Macbook today, because the student store has a really good education discount going right now.

Of course, there are phono stages with balanced outputs, on the top of my head, Hagerman Tech makes one, and so does Aqvox. If all you mean by balanced is that they don't share a common ground, then I think turntables qualify.
-
Aren't turntables inherently balanced? I mean the tonearm cables are left +/- and right +/-, and they don't really share a ground.
