They could probably lower the price on the transformers somewhat, seeing how they are first and foremost transformer manufacturers. Could just be a case of in-house subsidizing.
I just saw this on Lloyd's website, and he has a newsletter describing the various technical changes that went into the new model:

I don't know, I haven't found a headphone setup yet that can somehow trick me into thinking that I'm at a live show. I think the biggest reason for me is just the dynamics.
It doesn't matter, the HD2, if I am correct, has balanced input transformers, so the signal that is being put out is balanced regardless of the source.
So I'm not the only one to notice these things. Speaking of hi-fi in TV, House has a pretty sweet setup too. If I remember correctly, he has some Duvelle omni-speakers, a SOTA tt (not sure which model), and don't remember what CDP.
@Jon:
Do you know if the headphone section on the Almarro is directly connected to the main outputs, or did they put a resistor in the path to decrease noise?
Also, what kind of trannies do Almarro use? And what about the various upgrade options that I've seen over at Response Audio and Imagine HiFi? Are any of those worth it?
