  1. Would that be Blessed behaving himself, or doing his usual which is swearing like a trooper? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFseqTnysBY
  2. George Orwell, actually called Eric Arthur Blair, is buried about three miles away in Sutton Courtney church cemetary
  3. Next time he tours Dusty make the effort - it is well worth it. For at least half an hour before the concert the synth technicians are working on the ancient gear that he needs for early numbers, just to make sure it is still working and set up right. But JMJ is a phenomenon on stage. Largest audience in Russia - 3.5 million. So seeing him in a "small" venue of 15,000 is just great. Although why would you screw around when you had Rampling to come home to kind of defeats me.
  4. Carole is an FCA (Fellow Chartered Accountant) and even checks restaurant bills. Car dealerships don't stand a chance. Although back when we were in our mid 20's, we went into a Vauxhall dealership, and the guy looked at us and decided we looked too young to buy a new car and (I swear to god) asked us how much we earned. I looked him straight in the eye and told him straight that he had just lost a sale. That is the only bad buying experience I had. Bought a Ford Escort instead. That is until the MPV diesel version of the Corolla. Carole had that as a company car, and we bought it from the company at 3 years old. Got to 110,000 miles and the cylinder head gasket went - fuel in the coolant, to the extent you could smell it - and the car performed like crap. Toyota apparently knew that the engine had problems in that regard, and had extended the engine warranty from 60,000 miles to 100,000 miles. They refused point blank to make any contribution at all and said it was a new engine and £7000, and I refused point blank to ever buy a Toyota again. How come they get it so wrong? If they had just sorted it out without hassle I'd have bought my next car from Toyota. Bought a Ford Kuga in February and couldn't be more delighted with it. Looked at Mazda and Honda (NOT Toyota, although the RAV4 would have been in the frame).
  5. Oh Wow. Wow. Repeat as necessary. I took my daughter to see Jarre in concert maybe 4 years ago. I got seats slap bang in the middle of the front row. Looking around she said "oh my - I must be the youngest person here (the Birmingham arena seats 15,000). I set the scene, that he always makes a dramatic entrance, yadda yadday- we were not disappointed - fan of light and a gloved fist comes through it. He starts playing "Oh - he's real cute!" er yes kidda - he is ten years older than me - spot the surgery and botox! He's still a fantastic performer though. Not married to Rampling though because he couldn't keep it in his pants.
  6. ^ Wow. The gorgeous Charolotte Rampling in her mid 20's. Anyone recognise the deck? At one stage she was married to Jean Michel Jarre. She also gets a mention in Richard Burton's diaries (a must read, by the way).
  7. When the bone is mended will they take out the metalwork?
  8. Super Kamiokande neutrino detector (in Japan). Every one of those elements is a photomultiplier. 1km underground and filled with 50,000 tons of water. Mostly empty when the maintenance guys in the raft are in there.
  9. Holy crap Larry. I have no idea how I missed this, but have looked back over the history just now, and seen the photos post ops and the state of the car. I am so sorry that you and your daughter have been though so much grief over the last year. What a nightmare. Thank god that modern cars can take such a horrendous impact and still protect you at least to some extent with a 100mph+ impact speed. Best wishes to you both for continued recovery.
  10. It was the fight club one that got me laughing out loud - thanks for that Dusty
  11. The first book (Worm) actually fell apart while I was reading it! Only reason I did not throw it out is that my wife to be bought it for me in 1975. Now reading Mistress of Mistresses; this one is more about Machiavellian power politics (in a fantasy 16th/17th century setting).
  12. Three guys with major cojonez
  13. Coming back to this thread a bit late in this particular discussion - but what version of the board are we talking here? The original one, or some later version or update?
  14. Have a great one, Todd!
  15. Over the last decade or so I've been on a quest to see as many classic rock bands and singers as possible before they all drop of their perches. I usually go with a rock buddy - son, daugher, wife, friend or two depending on the type of music. One major regret is not seeing Queen in their prime.
  16. Yup. In fact the pair I built (starting with sheets of baltic birch ply) are the fifth pair down http://www.linkwitzlab.com/LX521/PhotoGallery.htm . Because they are pretty expensive to build (by the time you have the drivers, crossover and power amps) there is a thread here http://oplug-support.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=2787 that is people seeking auditions. Because there are now many hundreds (or even thousands) of pairs worldwide it is usually possible to find someone within striking distance so you can get a listen. In a shoot out between the LX521's and the LXmini http://www.linkwitzlab.com/LXmini/Introduction.htm that I did a week or so ago, the conclusion was that the mini sounded a little more forward and clearly lacking bass by comparison with the 521 - but the imaging was astounding. The advantage of the mini is that they are not only smaller, but a factor of several cheaper. This is the physical comparison and the comparative in-room response of L and R for both the LXmini and LX521 at the listening position (equilateral triangle). Frequency response irregularities at low frequency are room resonances. LXmini frequency response and LR match LX521 and LR match
  17. Sounds very nice indeed. It is only when you listen to dipole subs you realise how boxy conventional speakers sound. Currently using dipole everything http://www.linkwitzlab.com/LX521/Description.htm .
  18. What do you use as a crossover, dipole EQ etc? When I had Quads, I built an H-frame dipole sub, and EQ'd and crossovered using Siegfried Linkwitz's http://www.linkwitzlab.com/Pluto/woofer-asp.htm set to 100Hz.
  19. I stocked up with Fluke meters during my build. Three NOS 8060A's and and a second hand 87V. All from eBay for not much at all. And then I made up some custom PTFE leads to interface with the test point jacks I used on the board, so I could monitor battery voltage on both channels simultaneously. The Fluke's were one of the best purchases I ever made. Trustworthy, bulletproof - a joy to use.
  20. Here was me just thinking I was being IT-challenged! But yes - count me in for the return of the new content button please. And thanks Todd for the hard work in keeping the site updated and fresh.
  21. The dope of choice when I was at Southampton (UK) in the mid 70's was weed. Absolutely the only reason I abstained was a total aversion to smoking - both parents were smokers and I hated it big time. So I have never taken any dope of any kind. Other than alcohol of course!
  22. Meanwhile I hope you have a head for heights. Scaling the shanghai tower towards the end of construction. Two completely mad Chinese.Russians!!
  23. Started re-reading The Worm Ouroboros by ER Eddison (I first read it in 1975; pass the walking frame....). If you haven't read it, it was written in the 1920's and is a fantasy novel of great quests and warfare, written largely in 16th century English. Good summary here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Worm_Ouroboros One of a series of 3.5 books (A Fish Dinner in Memison and Mistress of Mistresses) - the 0.5 is what remains after Eddison died before finishing it (The Mezentian Gate).
  24. Yup - the T2 was for sure the most expensive bit of kit I've ever built.
