  1. Of course this is true. I get a cut directly from ray for all the extra stuff he sells because of my continued bashing of his junk. Ray is a dear and close friend and I have a lot of respect for him. Did i mention i have been drinking 100 year old scotch for most of the afternoon...
  2. I would be more than happy to help my good friend ray shambles. Does everyone know that ray considers justin his son??? Go look at that thread, post # 289 The balls of this man are of phenominal size. Is this how all christian palestinian refugee's from the 1967 war act??? fact is that he has already done the circuit boards, and paid for the extrusion. unless he changes his big penis cap for something smaller, he won't have room for the required coupling cap size.
  3. oops spelling errors... I prediciate that its gonna explode sending lithium and manganese schrapnel all over the place. I've been in the same room when an apple laptop battery exploded, definitely not a pretty sight. Also this... Ray is missing the REQUIRED cap on the VCOM pin of his pcm2704 implementation. Going to sound like shit without that cap. Distortion and noise thru the roof. Ray talking about noise levels. Highly entertaining.
  4. Way over his head. Can't wait till we see how he really plans on charging the battery, as there is no charging circuitry on the predator itself. Predition, its gonna explode. On ray's website he says it is going to have less noise than all his other portables. Nothing is further from the truth. Because of the addition of a rail splitter compared to the tomahawk, its going to make at least 3db more noise... The religious zealots will eventually turn away. Its going to take one more really shitty product from ray to get that to happen.
  5. Lets see, a one tube preamp. Yeah, great stuff. Gag me with a spoon. $5k+ for a one tube preamp with no remote control and no switching and a noisy switcher for the filament supply. Is that better...
  6. You have the led "A" wired in upside down...
  7. How to turn a ray shambles product into a singlepower product... Take a B52, make a set of unbalanced cables and tie them to an xlr with pin 2 and pin 3 connected together. Take the balanced outputs, and tie both Left channels together and both Right channels together. Viola two tubes in parallel top and bottom per channel. (with respect to ground)
  8. old stuff and generally unobtainable... peerless of which i have significant stock. new stuff if you have lots of money.... audionote silverfoil transformers lets not forget the Mcintosh unity coupled transformers. But those are for push pull, not SE.
  9. The sound of a single ended transformer output tube amp, and cathode follower amps are very different. Some like one version much more than the other. In either case you are probably going to have to find someone that is willing to do it right. For the transformer version, absolutely the best iron you can find coupled with a dht in to 30 to 40 watt range. Western electric 308's are absolutely the best at this, similar to the nagra amp that uses these, way out of your price range. For the otl version you probably want 6c33's running at full power as cathode followers. (zana is NOT cathode follower). This is also probably way out of your price range.
  10. Constant impedance step attenuators are in fact available. Some of the goldpoint attenuators before mikhail bought the company were available this way. Requires twice as many resistors and twice as many rotary sections. And are basically twice the price.
  11. I use my 7 digit agilent. Got to get it right down into the microvolts for best sound
  12. Thats really not the right way to look at it. When i drop $35k for a pair of power amps, or $10k on a flatscreen, those products had better be absolutely perfect in every single way, and stay problem free for a very long time. It is the reason why wilson can get away with charging $150k for a pair of speakers.
  13. If he went that far for the easy bias, i don't see any reason why he did not finish the job, and have a little single chip micro do the job automatically every 30 minutes, when there is a between the track silence. Servo bias with a 1 minute time constant is way easier and cheaper.
  14. You have to adjust the dc output voltage for each of the 4 output tubes. Absolutely no difference between that and a he90 or aristaeus. My all tube amp uses self bias instead, and requires no output bias adjustment. Although there is a phase adjustment that is set basically once for the life of the amplifier. The blue hawaii has dc feedback, and for a range of different tubes the adjustment needs little to no adjustment.
  15. I have personally only seen a picture of one such unit which clearly had pop-rivets holding the bottom on. I have a copy of that picture somewhere, and don't really want to look over 5 computers to try and find it. From a repair standpoint, pop-rivets are a really bad thing, as much of the time, drilling them out causes some damage to the paint.
  16. I have to bring out the bullshit meter, and its once again pegged at 11. I know of no other audio manufacturer of tube amplifiers that rivets shut their cases. Not conrad johnson, audio research, cary, VTL, EC, Woo Audio, atmasphere, the list goes on and on. Not even Mcalister who by all acounts should actually be riveting shut his amplifiers does so. Many of the above amplifiers have voltages and currents far in excess of what is in any of the DinglePower amplifiers. Mikhail told me more than 2 years ago he was applying for patents. Well if that was actually true in that amount of time the patent application would have showed up on the pto.gov website. Guess what, i checked, still nothing. Other than possibly the triangular layout of the tubes that might result in a design patent, there is absolutely nothing patentable about any of the DinglePower amplifiers. And the schematics are certainly well known and have been around for a very long time. If someone was going to pay for say a bigger transformer, or special caps, all of which are pricy upgrades, should they not be entitled to verify that they got what they paid for. In fact for someone who spent $10k+ on an amplifier, should it have significant flaws right out of the box. Not even Ray Shambles does such a thing.
  17. Lets say you are using el34's (6ca7) the filament power is about 8 watts, and the plate power is 8 watts PER TUBE. If you can hold your hand to the glass part of that tube after it has been on 10 minutes, then something is clearly wrong with you because i just measured the outside temp of the glass bottle to be about 165F. Does not really matter who makes the amplifer, and for what purpose, but anything with 6ca7,6080,kt88,6550... I dare you to touch any one of those with the power on.
  18. Do you really think that the ES-1 is going to be any different. Some versions of the ES-1 use absolutely the same output tubes, and same number of them. If you bias each tube at 10 watts (half power), plus the power of the load resistors, plus the power for the filaments and the efficiency of the power supply, no matter what you do you are at 100 watts or so of total heat dissipation. Which is nothing compared to a big audio research, or atmasphere amp, which dish out at least 800 watts of heat.
  19. each heatsink dissipates 20 watts. The heatsinks are more than large enough Almost double the size of the previous heatsinks. The rest of the chassis runs very cool, and the power supply just a bit warm. The tubes run as hot as tubes normally run.
  20. Someone should post it over at that other place. I'll bet it lasts no more than 10 minutes. if you believe this table http://www.sensiblechoice.com/schabt.htm and if it is a small cat, then 4 or 5 feet of headphones might actually fit and stick out each end.
  21. The original site is not safe for work. My site is certainly safe for work. The question is whether it is faked or not, and if it is faked, then how. Sure looks real.
  22. found at a site that pointed to a definitely NOT SAFE FOR WORK site, copied and moved for your entertainment. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/untangle_090507.wmv
  23. Most furniture does not plug in the wall. Most furniture is not on perpetual back order. Really good furniture lasts a very long time, especially when not abused. The one couch i'm not replacing is 25 years old, in absolutely perfect shape and very comfortable. The dogs sleep on it much of the time, but evidently it does not taste good enough for them to chew. Really need a 100 inch lcd panel for the serious media room. Too bad they are not available yet.
  24. Yeah i know, the dogs when they were puppies... But the father in law with that crap he used to put in his hair dissolved the finish of most of the top of the leather anyway. So basically a completely new upholstery job is necessary. New couch and new chair very soon.
