brand new auto rethreading edm machine
-
I'll definitely take a number of heatsinks. As a quad, it would be cool, but doing a rip up of the layout to get all 4 input fets close to each other might be rough.
-
I'm very interested in the edm cut heatsinks... Did not even think of using an edm that way. Have a brand new edm that i'm going to have to learn. Those don't look edm'd though, unless they were anodized afterwards.

True of course, but i bought one on the strength of reviews so far. And the sound quality is absolutely fantastic. Plus its one of the first units to have uncompressed and un-encrypted hdmi output. Certainly not built like the teac esoteric machines. But sounds so much better. For $1200 if it lasts 4 years, i'll toss it and get the latest and greatest machine. No more $12k krell boxes that have $10 plastic loaders that cost $2k to replace. That is just plain stupid. Krell needs to pull their heads out of their asses and release a krell quality hdmi input super dac. It will never happen.

Oops. You are absolutely correct. There was another major amp out there at the time that used buf634's. Brain fade. There were also amps that used stacked buf634's or stacked 5002's. Don't remember the names of those either.

Single box sony scd-5400es seems to be the best thing on the planet right now regardless of price. $1200 Over 25 million dollars spent on designing the new dac's for the thing.
-
I had one of these a long time ago. Built typically krell. Will last forever. By todays standards, does not sound very good. Lots of stuff going on in the software, so some cd's sounded great, others sounded like crap.

buf634 is not the best thing for driving low impedance headphones. For mid and high impedance headphones many people consider it a bit bright. Ray Samuels SR71 and 2005 versions of headroom product also used buf634. Tube front end takes a bit of the harshness away.

THIS JUST IN OK, waiting for picture verifications In any singlepower electrostatic amp, if you have the voltmeter option, guess what is in the power supply box? In any singlepower amp if you have the chinese step attenuator option, guess what is in the power supply box? -

I've requested a few more pictures of the power supply. If we can figure out all 12 wires on the 3 x neutrik connectors, i can make up the open frame supply correctly wired with 3 tails. At least he will be able to listen to it more carefully to decide whether or not he wants to completely gut the thing. There is +12, -12, ground and +5 for sure... -

Absolutely correct. Put those top screws in pronto. Take apart from the bottom. You may not like what you see. -

Ray having the worst day in his entire life would never let something like this out the door. Nor would he make even the slightest attempt to build it in the first place. Fact is that a single open frame linear power supply would actually cost a fair amount less than the pile of crap that is in that power supply. And you could still add blackgates at the output. Would love to see the insides of the power supply for an ES2. -
Burson Audio discrete headamp.
kevin gilmore replied to Hopstretch's topic in Headphone Amplification
dynalo, dynahi, dynafet, B22 and B24 are all fully discrete opamps. I'm sure that with surface mount resistors i could cram a dynalo into that form factor. -
Some OTL tube amps don't have a built in load (say 10k or so) after the output capacitor. On an amp like this, if you leave the output disconnected for some period of time with the amp on, the cap discharges, then when you plug in the headphones there is a signifcant voltage spike (say 100 volts or more) which can definitely do damage to the heaphones. Singlepower and woo audio amps are known to have output load resistors. Transformer coupled amps are unlikely to have any problems.

Absolutely fedex updates their tracking system on a continuous basis. I tracked the package i got yesterday and 5 minutes after i got it, it showed as being delivered on the website. Every time a package goes in and out of a facility it is tracked. Even if it is shipping ground, it is scanned when it goes into the truck, and when it comes out of the truck. -
Steve Hoffman/Kevin Gray Blue Note Remasters to be Released on SACD!
kevin gilmore replied to Voltron's topic in Music
There is the second set of blue note discs which will evidently overlap the shipping of the first set, and then there is the 20 disc verve set. -

They just magically showed up. Usually i get an email when they ship, but i'm on the subscription for all THREE sets, so evidently they just ship when they can without notice. The subscription works differently than just ordering the discs from the website. And i did listen to all 4 last night. Really good stuff. Hardly what i would call stereo as there are horns to the left, horns to the right, piano always in the middle and drums always on the right... Great music. -

Just got the first 4 discs delivered today. Going to listen to the second disc now. May stay up all night and listen to all of them. The music is just glorious. -

$15.6K for a pair of squarewave boards in a pretty box. A bargain at twice the price. -

I've now seen enough Singlepower amplifiers to last a lifetime. The biggest single cause of failure on every one of the amplifiers is the massively shitty tube sockets. Same sockets on everything mikhail makes. On the ES1/2 units, wiggling the tubes with the power on can very quickly destroy the G2 or plate resistors. Problem is the tube socket is a non-standard size. The hole in the chassis is 1/32 of an inch too small to put in the really good tulip sockets. I've made a special punch to take care of this problem, but done correctly it is still quite a bit of work on the circuit board units, because you have to take the board out first. If you do it from the other direction, it leaves a sharp lip on the top of the chassis. -

Don't think that a credit card is a catchall for stuff like this. I know a person in a business similar to mikhail's (as in retail product) and he gets chargebacks all the time. And he spends the time to prove that he shipped the product (always ships signature required) and 95% of the time, the chargebacks are canceled. The credit card companies want to make sure their vendors are kept happy, otherwise no one would accept credit cards. -
you have to be careful with the 75 to 300 ohm transformers, some of them actually have a common ground. You don't want those. This is the right thing DIGITAL CATV ISOLATOR but i have seen them for only $9.95...
