I have a business partner that was formerly in the optometry business. I (as recently as 2 months ago) tried every single one of the multi-focal contacts. Boy do they suck. In the morning driving, every stoplight turns into 6 pointed stars. Lasic is a very bad idea. After 10 years (especially when you are older) it drifts badly, and is then not correctable. DON'T DO IT.
-
If you are near-sighted, when you hit about 45 you won't be able to wear contacts anymore. You will see what i mean when you get there. All current solutions stink.

If any of you that have bought and taken delivery of the boards decide that this is a bit much for you then please sell them (at no profit) to someone who desperately wants them, and let me know who you sent them to. Although i would love to end up with a couple of spare chassis (for the SRX) the idea was 19 boards sets, and 19 chassis sets.

L brackets i can make in infinite quantities. 4 of them 6 feet long only weigh about 25 lbs. Its a stock item, not custom, so no minimum. Same thing with the stax jacks and the tops and bottoms.

I'm assuming you mean the profile you are showing. You gonna drill and tap all the holes? Your arm is going to get tired.

Its the flame thrower burned volcanic ash icelandic edition Yes those were srx3 pro's. Probably close to 30 years old. Owned by mypasswordis For those of you that have seen the sony 5400, the finish is absolutely identical to that. And its a very deep anodize. Which means that the screws fit kind of tight the first time. (waiting for a swt61 comment...)

http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/staxprod1.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/staxprod2.jpg And off to spritzer shortly. If there is a second run of boards, we can certainly change things at that time. No way am i doing another 700 lbs of aluminum.

The heatsinks are 16.2 inches long and 2.95 high. Don't remember the width. Would have loved vertical fin cast heatsinks, but the prices were just stupidly high.

Not true. Jude definitely knows what reks looks like. Last year every time reks came into a room, jude quickly left. You mean Cuddly Dudley... (most of you people outside of chicago will not understand this but it fits reks perfect)
-
Wait a minute, something is seriously wrong with jude... He was even friendly to me, something i thought would never happen, and now this with reks... On the other hand, now with 20k$ or more rolling in the door per month, maybe jude will lighten up a bit. NO WAY?

I'm going to chime in and say that i really appreciate the tolerance of alternate everything here. As a jew growing up in a 99.9% christian town, i got to learn first hand about religious intolerance, its just as bad as racial intolerance, sexual intolerance etc. In fact working at a university the tolerance of intolerance is absolutely frowned upon. In fact any violations of religious, sexual orientation, marital status, citizenship status, racial status (and two more i can't remember) is cause for dismissal even for tenured faculty. This from a school that 50 years ago would not allow jews to attend. I sure wish things were more tolerant when i was growing up. And i think its great that married couples are actively looking for gay positive churches. This is definitely new. So i'm tired of the filth that rush limbaugh and the morons at fox news spew, and i'm very tired of the people that listen to and bow down and pray to these jackasses. It certainly includes the gays in the military thing. Keep up the good work.

Heat rises. Would probably be a very good idea to make longer umbilical cords and put them next to each other, or on different shelves. That is on my list of things to do. But those things take so long to make... Higher voltage at the same current is higher power. P=V*A its not just a good idea, its the law. BHSE=+/-400 volts T2=+/-500 volts

Spritzer just admitted to me that he put a passed out AL in the womens bathroom. Just fucking classic. So now we know what happened... Just fucking classic.
-
el34's really don't perform well at 600 volts. 800 volts is better at about 60% power. 1000 volts is even better at about 80% power. After you hear what it is supposed to sound like, you can't listen to a lot of the other amps.

OPEN, as in dipole, no damping whatsoever. Same as stax (except for 4070)

I am going to throw this out, i said something to tyll but he was not listening. The lcd2's when he tested them were the only headphones he has tested that are 180 degrees out of phase. I very much doubt that this could have caused any errors in the software, but the phase at about 5khz went to infinity because of this. Someone needs to re-wire the things and do it again. I think he was using an aftermarket cable for the measurements, so maybe one more time with the original cable. Still they are great sounding headphones and i'm going to have to get a set as soon as possible.
-
Corrections... The diy T2 is not the hottest amp on the planet. The original is, by something like an additional 20C. Justin wilsons bottle of booze came from me. The two of them killed it pretty quick. But he was not willing to do another bottle.
-
i put the headphones in the box that had all the original desicant... Maybe overnight it will get better, but i doubt it. A lot of people did hear the O2 till about 3pm when it happened... since i was not in the room at the time, i really do not know what happened, maybe someone spilled some water from a glass and did not have the balls to say something. But there was water and moisture on the inside left earpiece. New rule, no liquids near electrostatics. But really i do not know what actually happened. In a week i will know for sure. Going to try ebay and see what is available. Can't work on the kgsshv without my reference headphones.

I figured out i would say something about the heat on the T2 and the knob. The amp is happy to run all day long, and as many of you have found out, it gets rather hot. My stupid idea of machining a one piece volume knob with a shaft that goes thru the panel with a panel bearing causes the knob to get as hot as the rest of the thing. Not a problem at home as i have it hooked up to the krell preamp, and control the volume that way, so i don't have to touch the knob. But at CJ, i did not bring a preamp, and really none is needed, but to control the volume you have to use the knob... I'll be making the knobs a different way in the future. I won't even discuss what someone did to my O2's... Seriously pissed on this, Jim says i should make an insurance claim. Alex cavalli spent about 30 minutes listening to it, and said he really liked it, but thought that few were capable of building the thing.

plenty of booze in my room, stop by till about 5pm when setting up starts... See the T2 before its plugged in. room 518 and this just in... http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/beely.jpg

Its still at work. Trunk full of various CJ stuff... If i go in to work on monday (depends on amount of booze on fri, sat, sun) i'll take it home. Otherwise tuesday. Each piece is wrapped so nice. The heatsinks polished up the best. Actually the front and back polished up the best. NO wait... And besides, taking pictures of black stuff is a pain. its definitely BLACK.
-
Got the chassis. Its pretty damm good. Not quite justin good, because i went for a less shinny finish, but i'm VERY happy with it. I'm pretty sure spritzer is getting the first one
-
silly british boys thinking they can plug those things into american power... Go to radio shack real quick and get a universal adapter, i have some somewhere, but don't have the time to find them.
-
No knobs yet, titanium or otherwise (except my unit) other than that, a complete chassis. Was thinking of also doing a knob with 3 machine rings to put o-rings onto. polished then black anodized. i may do some custom machined spikes, but that is also for later.
-
So i just got the email that the first chassis is done, and i should have it tomorrow. So the first person that wants it, gets it, but due to CJ i won't be able to ship till tuesday. Don't have the invoice yet, but they said something like $300 for finishing. So its $987 plus about $300 plus shipping plus 3% paypal... (plus $160 for the board set if you don't have it yet) 8 more sets of tops and bottoms done, need to finish up the fronts and backs.
