  1. I wouldn't call the m192 MKII laid back. Rather, I would call it musical. I agree that it has a somewhat forward presentation, but it doesn't have the top end splash that the DAC1 has. But despite the musicality (is that a word?), it is not forgiving and will expose poor recordings. In other words, I agree with tkam about the resolution. Finally, the m192 has a spacious, airy soundstage that contributes to what might be mistaken as being laid back.
  2. Does this mean I'm not going to win any more stuff from them?
  3. Yeah, but I'm wondering if I can make iTunes do a sweep of the changed files and basically import them. Do I have to do that manually?
  4. So I've started using Tag & Rename for XP under Fusion. It's a very good program. Does exactly what I want it to do. But when I fire up iTunes, it wants me to reassociate (my word) the song that appears in iTunes with the underlying file. For lots of reasons, this is a pain in the ass. I feel like this shouldn't be so hard because I am not changing any of the locations of the files (though I am changing file names). Is there a way to get the library to automatically, I don't know, update? Or some such shit? Damn computers.
  5. They are, and by your ready admission, you haven't heard them and have no idea what you're talking about.
  6. Johnny Blue, as catscratch suggested, I recommend getting your hands on a pair of Lambda Signatures. Try those. They just might be what you are looking for. I think they give the O2 a run for its money when the Sig has better synergy with the amp.
  7. How about a used North Star m192 mk2?
  8. I wish my UE's used a softer material. A lot.
  9. belated. birthday. happy.
  10. Wow, those are useful. I think you're right, until a tag & rename is created for mac, I'll use these. Everything else is too clunky for my id tag challenged brain.
  11. Bumping this to see if anyone has had any luck.
  12. yup.
  13. Investment in HiFi gears is the safest place to park one's $$ these days.
  14. A pair of shoes that turned out to be too fucking big.
  15. So, I'm curious about what the m192 mkII is doing with regard to upsampling, so I wrote to them asking what happens now that the mkII no longer has the upsampling button of its predecessor. Here's their (very prompt) response: "the new M192MK2 have a fixed upsampling at 192kHz/24bit. This allows a more straight digital signal path and we can optimize the analog section only for this sampling frequency. This design is like our flagship DAC, Extremo" What does that mean?
  16. So far, so good. Nice soundstage. Listening time has been limited however because I've got some buzzing issues. I think it's probably my unshielded XLR's. Will try RCAs tomorrow and post impressions elsewhere. The North Star is a nice looking unit.
  17. Yup, we're in business!
  18. North Star m192.
  19. Nate, I listened to the Klipsch Image IEMs at CJ08 and I thought they were pretty good. Universals, but they were pretty damn small.
  20. Sorry deepak, help me out. Does that mean the MK1 is better/worse/different? I'm wondering because it looks like there are some deals out there on the MK1, but I'm not interested if it pales significantly compared to the Mk2.
  21. oh, and shoes.
  22. Digital picture frame for the office.
