  1. Thanks. The problem is I don't know where that should be. Do I tie the shield to one of the - binding posts? There is really nothing else to tie it to. Should it be tied to the chassis of the speaker containing the amp?
  2. Thanks Dan, I think I get it now. I did not ground the shield at one end. One problem is where would I ground it if I'm not using terminations, just bare wire?
  3. Nate, I'll do that. In terms of shielding, would the mogami star quad with the copper sheath be shielded? Or is there a different way of shielding speaker cables?
  4. grrr... So I used some Mogami to make another cable. I took a single length of star quad, stripped each of the 4 conductors and twisted two for each channel. Same noise out of the right speaker. I guess the speakers have to go back, which is a pain in the balls. Is there anything else I should try?
  5. I also thought it was the RCA's, but they are shielded and do not introduce interference in other setups in the same location. Further, the noise is still present even when I remove the RCAs from the equation (i.e., everything is plugged in EXCEPT for the RCAs). I suppose it could be the power cable or a ground loop, but wouldn't that be in both speakers? The noise does not seem to change when I move the speakers around, but I have not moved them into another room.
  6. The speaker cable that goes from right to left. Makes sense. Thanks.
  7. I used the last of the ERS to wrap presents! I need some Cat5 anyway, so maybe I'll pick some up.
  8. Now for the dumb questions. I've never built a speaker cable. I want to do something quick and easy to test my AE2 speakers to see if the stock cable is picking up RF. Can I just use two separate runs of Mogami, using all four conductors? I won't be terminating at this point, just twisting the strands. Is this basic premise correct?
  9. My rig is near my window and it seems that it is subject to some RF interference. My unshielded XLR cables buzzed, and now I suspect that the speaker cable that came with my AudioEngine 2's is picking up some interference. Is there any quick and easy way to shield the cheap speaker cable?
  10. A cheap floor lamp.
  11. I agree about the mk2 seal. I find myself playing with the pads trying to get a good seal. It's not easy. I wonder if some break-in is required so that the foam conforms a little bit better.
  12. Elephas, the ones at AudioCubes are actually cheaper. Is there a particular reason you went with the ebay vendor?
  13. Excellent, thanks!
  14. My question to AC2: Their helpful reply:
  15. That APC deal looks good, but isn't that precisely the kind of thing you want to avoid as a refurb?
  16. Thanks Spritzer. I guess I will assume that AC2 is just a bit confusing and has some typos.
  17. That's what I thought, but the description says grey. I guess I'll email them.
  18. I've been looking at the AC2 website. Other than possibly color, what would be the difference between the pads for a Lambda Pro and a 202, 303, or 404? The Lambda Pro pads are more expensive. Also, I'd like new pads for my Signatures, buy AC2 does not appear to have brown pads. Any suggestions where to find brown pads for the Lambda Sig (other than Yama)?
  19. Sounds like a ground loop.
  20. AudioEngine A2. Little Desktop 'puter speakers.
  21. Ugh, so now I guess the question for my mk1 is should I get the mk1 pads or the mk2 pads. I'm leaning toward the mk2 as the pair I'm getting will already have serviceable mk1 pads.
  22. Late birthday gift:
  23. are new 007 mk1 pads still available?
  24. And to think I thought it would never happen after the NYC meet. So much for willpower.
  25. I am not yet leaving elephas's side. However, I do want to live with both for a while to figure out which I will live with permanently... Stupid hobby.
