  1. Ok, so my apartment is theoretically wired with Cat 5e throughout. There is a Leviton enclosure in one of my closets. I currently use Verizon FIOS for my internet, phone, and TV. The Actiontec router that Verizon gave us sits outside the closet and is connected to one of the jacks in the apartment via coax. My mac is hardwired to one of the Actiontec's ethernet ports; the rest of the 'puters connect wirelessly. I want to light up some--if not all--of the ethernet ports throughout the house in case the wireless goes down. The problem is that none of the RJ45 jacks in the apartment are connected to the Actiontec router. I suspect that I need a switch (and a small one at that due to space constraints) to mount in the Leviton box. The HP switch is too big. But before I go off and get another switch I wanted to run my strategy by the gurus here. Here are some pics that hopefully explain this shit better. Basically, I want to understand better what's going on. Leviton Enclosure: Panels: Left Panel Closeup Patch Panel (Right) Closeup: FIOS crap: Jack Example: The jack nearest the TV is using the top coax to go to the Set Top Box. The phone is on the top ethernet jack, but I'm not sure if it is live throughout. The bottom ethernet jack I think carries the in-house intercom, but again I do not know if it is throughout.
  2. It should be fun. UPS is taking forever with the ECD-1. Estimated delivery on 1/12.
  3. Slacker, I think you did well, except that the title of the package should be "Exclusive NOT Belgian Ales" as none of those are Belgian. Regardless, I enjoyed many a Zywiec (though not the porter) when I visited Krakow some time ago. Good stuff as I recall. I've seen it at a couple of places in the city.
  4. Happy Birthday, Luis.
  5. Based on my recent experience, it now appears that if there is inclement weather ANYWHERE in North America, FedEx releases itself from any obligation to deliver packages on time. Of course, FedEx disclaims any liability arising from weather delays, and has a policy of not even offering a partial refund in such instances. Assfaceholeheads.
  6. Nah, I'm just an in-house cog. But I have been meaning to hire that lackey.
  7. Ugh, I need to do the diet/exercise thing, too. And I dread it. But I feel like ass at my current weight and need to be able to keep up with my son when he starts to really motor. I know it's not so bad once you get in the groove, but man, it is hard for me to get in that groove.
  8. Well, yeah, that's what I meant by moving on. FedEx has fucked up 2 deliveries for me in the last 2 weeks. Did you wait all day?
  9. Ain't that the truth. I told myself the same thing over and over again. Stay calm, stay rational. No upside to getting into something ugly; just let the other party have their tantrum and move on.
  10. Got into my first difference of opinion at the new job.
  11. I don't know if I'll be able to mount it in the Leviton enclosure the way I had hoped...
  12. Because that's how I roll.
  13. ^ well done. Exactly. Here's another pic:

I've never heard those Quads. Would like to.
  16. You will when I find a picture of the damn thing. Stupid Internets can't find it, though.
  17. Nor am I. It's fine, but nothing special. Time to move on to the Marron soon. Does anyone remember the stupid desktop thing I mentioned?
  18. Rubbing alcohol seems to have helped. The damn stuff did manage to sink into the edge of the carpet though. Dammit. It was a present to the little Monkey from his grandmother, the queen of inappropriate gifts and toys. My wife said to throw it out as soon as we were out of earshot. She was right. EDIT: Al, no ether in the house. Just this:
  19. Thanks Reks. Ether would be fun. Maybe some explosions too!
  20. I think the liquid is turpentine. Any suggestions about how best to clean surfaces that have turpentine on them?
  21. Do you guys remember that desktop thing that seemed to abound in the 80s that was filled with blue and clear liquid and tilted back and forth and when it did the blue liquid separated from the clear and created a "wave" effect? Well, what the hell was the blue liquid? I ask because my son just broke a water filled thing that had the same liquid combination, and the contents have a very strong smell. Almost like industrial strength bathroom cleaner, but without ammonia. Any assistance is appreciated.
  22. Agree, that's what my research indicated.
  23. I'm the BEST. No, of course not. I have no idea about any of that stuff. I was thinking more along the lines of using some jumpers and all would be good. So not an easy project in other words, eh?
