Just went outside to play baseball and basketball with the Little Monkey. Jebus it is cold.

The cardas cable on my old 650 was the only time I thought I heard a difference between cables. Real, placebo, bad hearing...all possible.

X-ray on my knee that I smashed into the floor on Tuesday night when I slipped on the fucking bamboo wearing socks. I'm sure it's ok, but I have bad knees so just want to make sure there's no fracture. Got the Drobo up and running after messing it up a little bit. All seems good now. Have the Little Monkey with me for several more days. Weekend and St. Patrick's Day coming up, so let the good times roll.

When it appeared that they were going to do a logic board swap on my iMac, I expressed my concerns about the cosmetics, etc. The guy said they get that all the time and are very very careful to return it in the same cosmetic condition. I got a new one so can't confirm, but he at least seemed to take my concern seriously.

Finally set up the airmotiv 5s. They are very good.

Fucking logic boards.

At least we now know the End Times will be quick and efficient.

I think that's right. And the 5D also has a dedicated slot for an extra SSD I guess to essentially cache stuff but from what I've read its effectiveness is debatable.

That sounds like it would work, Dan. So you mean the mirrored array would back up the Drobo (and I guess the HD on the 'puter, too)?

Ugh, the noise is a dealbreaker for me. The other day I ordered one of those Monster power filters (i.e., fancypants ripoff power strip) and returned it immediately because it emitted a low, but audible buzz constantly. Reviews noted it, too. Great characteristic in an A/V product. I guess one other thing I'd need to be concerned about with the Drobo is backup. I don't want to get another Drobo box to backup Drobo box (WHERE DOES IT END?!) but I would need something. All of which brings me back to maybe I'm better off just sticking with one external HD for content and one for backup.

Agree re the SSDs. I am looking forward to prices falling enough so that I can use them for my music library. What was loud, the SSD or the Drobo?

I was thinking about that but I want Thunderbolt.

Anyone have experience with the Drobo 5D--good or bad?

Going to my first game of the season on Friday.

This seems to have worked out in the end. New machine. Seems to be working fine.

My iMac will finally be ready tomorrow (or so they say). Now it is unclear whether they got a new machine or stuffed a bunch of new boards into my old machine.

I need all of my local teams (and pre and post game wrap ups) with absolutely no blackouts. Not sure this is doable yet off the grid.
