Did you look at any other drivers? I am considering the Jordans ( http://documents.jordan-usa.com/JX92S_VTL.pdf ) mainly because I have a really small space (Marc can testify), well, that is available to speakers (for some reason the 500sf LR is off limits for speakers), but Pete used these and likes them a lot. I like the cabinet design a lot (well, after I mod out some of those corners on bottom). So, other than the 4" Fostex driver (F12, something or other), any other recommendations for small full range speakers? Oh, forgot: bastards! getting another project that I don't need at the moment - plywood bought, and plans laid out... pending drivers...

Aw, heck, just get Alex to reterminate the 950 with one of his nice Amphenol silver plugs... And I agree wholeheartedly that the OII is dark, at least with all the existing amps... but, maybe something will be along shortly to jolt them into submission. I have seen the silk, and the parts are all in place...

dBel the builder? I was under the impression there was still a lot of prototyping work yet to do... oh, well.

I think there are ongoing, though more subtle, attempts to 'balance' what is being sold to help amp makers, even those who do not directly support head-fi - mainlky because they help generate chatter, and draw more members. It is a symbiotic viral relationship. There is also a VERY uneasy relationship with the DIY community as a whole (evidenced by the hardline crackdown on TomB last year), so there is still smoke even if you can't see the flames. The heat is there. Yes, maybe my case helped define this - point was, posts are deleted, and notifications not sent, and no 'policy' defined. You have your opinion and I mine. To say there is NO, none, nada proof is, IMHO, ludicrous. It seems this is all how it is perceived. But, I hold to not selling on Head-fi - enough people write me to ask to buy that I don't have to. Not that I am selling anything anyway, since I don't need to. Oops, maybe this shold be in the Casino - as if I give a fuck.

Must.resist.buying.plywood.to.break.in.new.tablesaw. You are making me wish I'd gotten the Powermatic instead of the portable Ryobi.

Well, I have some factual evidence, and the emails explaining it. JMT, as in JMT audio (and, yes, a nice, stand-up guy, and all that) deleted three of my FS posts of DIYamps (what, an amp maker deleting amp FS posts?) all at one time. No fucking email, no nothing until I raised hell with him, Jude, et al. The total hypocricy of an amp builder deleting FS posts, for selling builds AT THE COST OF THE PARTS (probably less due to shipping, etc) smacked of nothing more than that. At the time, there was NO policy of any kind regarding DIY amp sales, and even more ludicrous, was the shakedown for me to become a MOT (wrong for so many reasons). Oh, the humanity - I actually stated I was selling the amps to buy a Raptor. Thank you Jesus, I was saved. Enough folks had already seen the posts that they sold anyway (a Millett Hybrid, and two m

Dayum... always something. Drop by Pmillett - he has been a busy kinda guy... in an interesting way.

Very nice table saw and work surface, not to mention the collection of clamps - color me jealous, as I can only spare room for a portable table saw. Inspired by Pete's build? JX92S MLTQWP speaker

Hmmm - do I need some of these parts - is this part of the shunt regs? BTW, on a related note, SumR should be done and shipping by Friday.
-
Very simple: HE60 > HD600 > HD650

I heard the same balanced pair Steve did, but out of my Millett Max / Opus rig, and have heard L3000 SE on a couple of occasions as well out of my HA-2. I agree with the consensus that there was a little something extra, but not a whole lot. So, if you have only a balanced amp / source would it make sense. AT seems to give a shit about their cable which may be why there is little difference.
-
I did the same in a thread on Balanced v unbalanced, referencing Dreadhead's work. It illicited two notes from Jude. Not at all unreasonable, but, someday, won't The Wall come down? Not that I really care - just another site to link to, especially when the relevant info already exists. I just hate dual threading, with all the different fucking rules.
-
A mind with a heart of it's own... Certainly you would be building your own unit, to measure as you go, and share when certain components make a measureable difference? Besides, wouldn't you want an uber KGSS, because Marc is the only one that I know that has one. Oh, and the tube thingy is just around the corner - can't wait to see how it measures, even with us hacks building it.
-
No, because it is a fucking waste of disc space... I barely keep a list of BOM on new builds, which is almost irrelevant, as I don't use all those parts anyway.
-
I have extensive time with all you are curious about, except BHSE. Beats me what you would like better.

I think a lot of what each of us is experiencing is how these phones perform with what we like to listen to - and I absolutely did not like anything, sonically, about them for what I listen to. This should not be shocking - compare it to Grado love / hate. These don't seem to have any middle ground.
-
The point exactly - there hasn't been anything better. And, it is only a matter of time that existing units, having years of heavy use, start to break down. I'd rather take a shot at something new if my hd600 drivers have already been replaced with something newer anyway - oh, and I am far less a fan of the hd650. If they fix the errors in th 650, and retain the good bits, outstanding. There is an eyewitness report in the thread today that there is something new coming - yet, due to another NDA, no hints other than HD800, not hd680. So, perhaps we are looking at a tech refresh / upgrade AND something new (planar)?
-
Too many NDAs in effect for something to NOT be coming. One is quite synonymous with electrostatic amps, and a cable maker, or two.

Recently disgourged tube assortment.

Yes, we have learned that the hard way, eh? ;-) -
Balanced APS v3, with an Enigma Oracle backup.

Dangin, Kevin, between you and Mcmanus... I cannot wait until _someone_ finishes an affordable, easier to build stat amp to kick fanboys in both camps, not that either side knows good when they hear it. But, c'mon - at least Ray buys everyone pizza. -
Can someone point me to this? 25% off the $650 ish?
