Get the Lavry its a nice sounding and pretty versatile piece of gear.

I think his website says he does the photos but not the new video ones

I'm also strongly considering a pair of these: http://www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?cPath=24_92&products_id=571&Cid=d7d5be79ed9cc92852d50724a36936b3

Balancing headphones. Yay or Nay: share your experience-->model/worth it?
tkam replied to CD44hi's topic in Headphones
The 701s see a nice improvement when balanced but not as large of one as the 650s get. Hopefully I get to hear balanced rs-1s someday as they apparently improve a heck of a lot. -
I actually really like the Europa's they sound effortless and are not fatuiging at all. I would like better bass response and a more dynamic sound though. I will not be using a sub so good bass response is important. The room isn't too large its about 10x16 with 7ft ceilings and the speakers are setup on the 16 ft wall. They are roughly 8ft apart and about 18" out from the wall. My usual seating position is about 7-8ft away.

I'm currently using a PrimaLuna Prologue One to drive a pair of Green Mountain Audio Europa's. I've actually been using that setup more than my headphone rig as of late so I figure its time I put some more money into it. I plan to upgrade both the speakers and the amp but I'd like to do the speaker upgrade first. Here's a few links to speakers I'm currently considering: GMA Callisto - http://greenmountainaudio.com/Speakers/Callisto/Welcome.htm Seas Odin MK3 - http://www.madisound.com/odinmk3.html Selah Audio SA-1 - http://www.selahaudio.com/id46.html Thoughts on those or any other suggestions are welcome . Oh any recommendations need to be bookshelf/stand mount speakers.

If you want the bracket in PDF format http://www.head-case.org/tkam/06mens_bracket.pdf

I spent most of yesterday watching the conference tournament games and of course watching the ncaa tournament selection show. I think the bracket is pretty well balanced this year and I think Cincinnati is the only team that really should have made it but didn't. I also think it was a nice change to see more of the at-large bids going to teams from smaller conferences. And the biggest head-scracther of the bracket is Tennesee getting a 2 seed how did that happen?? [attachment deleted by admin]

FOTM of the month for sure, I still wonder why Ori is pushing it so much. Although I will say the Zhalou 2 looks to be much improved and might actually be something I consider buying.

How long till my old school MPX3 kills me?
tkam replied to NightWoundsTime's topic in Headphone Amplification
I doubt the MPX3 will ever kill you, but I could see it killing itself at some point. Although the ever increasing prices of 6SN7's might give you a heart attack -
Small review on the SACDMODS Denon 2910!
tkam replied to Chrysanthemum's topic in Home Source Components
Haha yeah the stock output stage actually hides it pretty well because its just not resolving enough -
Small review on the SACDMODS Denon 2910!
tkam replied to Chrysanthemum's topic in Home Source Components
Yep all those denon's have switching power supplies and the clock converstion from 24mhz for dvd down to audio levels does cause a bit of glare/sheen in the treble. -
Whether or not you will like the 701s depends on what you are looking for. If you want as close to neutral and an even tonal balance than you'll enjoy the 701s a lot. Otherwise you might not like them.

Need help picking out a DAC with 'true balanced' output...

Pricejapan.com gave me a quote of $668 for the CEC DA53 a few days ago. -
Signalcable MagicPower Digital vs. PS Audio Power Punch
tkam replied to Thaddy's topic in Audio Accessories
What DAC are you getting? I would bet that the signal cable magicpower would be better than the Punch. Another cable you might want to check out is the Asylum Power Cable from diycable.com. I have 3 or 4 of them and they work great for me. -

Hockey pucks work pretty well

Sounds like you probably have a bad driver. You have a few options though, send the phones into beyer usa and let them fix it or order the driver yourself and send the new driver and your phones to one of the DIY people and let them do it. Of course you could also have them upgrade the cable at that time, for this time of work I'd recommend Headphile or Enigma Audio.

Need help picking out a DAC with 'true balanced' output...
tkam replied to philodox's topic in Home Source Components
I would avoid the zhalou, parts quality is pretty low and there have been reports of extremely high dc offset at the rca and xlr outputs. Build quality is also less than stellar looks pretty fragile to me. The Lavry is a very nice dac we have a few members here that have them. -
Maybe it's just me but I've always seen headwize as technically oriented forum that seemed to be lacking in other discussion areas. I don't see any reason why headwize can't remain the mecca of technical oriented headphone/amp related material. The lack of forum categories and general absence of posting in some of the categories (electronic gear for instance) are partially why I decided to start up and host this forum. Head-Case will eventually become open, I certainly don't want or expect it to get anywere near as large as head-fi is. But yes for the time being the bandwidth is available. The server it is running on comes with 2TB per month of bandwidth. Addtional bandwidth can be added at $100 per each 1TB.
