    GS-1000's Arrived

Thats not my desk, thats my subwoofer
  2. Well my pair of gs1000s arrived today. One of my largest complaints with Grados has always been comfort or for me total lack of comfort. I don't think I've ever been able wear Grados before without my ears starting to hurt after an hour. The GS-1000's solve this problem and are the first Grados I've been able to wear for extended periods of time without any discomfort. So for me the comfort is a big plus, I wonder what took them so long but at least they figured it out. Few observations about their sound so far... Soundstage is big for Grados I'm not convinced its that big compared to other headphones though. I think what might be giving people that impression is their extremely good instrument seperation and placement. The GS1000 are very resolving headphones, I feel bad for anyone using these with a crappy source and/or amp. If you have any weaknesses in your system they will make it very apparent and then whack you over the head with them. It's still early on, but I think they have some real promise. Here's a few bad pictures for now, I really need to get a camera that has a real lens, oh and a tripod would help too.
  3. Ok so it sounds like SACD is a must, any problems buying modded or used players? Any idea of a budget?
  4. Can I have your O2s? I think your selling digital a little short, the DV-50 is a fine player but I think in terms of audio performance you can do better (maybe even substantially so) for less money and certainly for more money.
  5. I believe August 5th is the Cinci meet.
  6. I've heard them a few times and I think it was the 120 ohm version. I agree with Reks thoughts on thinking they were grainy, but I will add that I thought they were pretty dull sounding headphones. But hell almost everything is dull compared to the l3ks
  7. That would probably be me
  8. Don't make me drop my monoblocks on your foot.
  9. Thats BS, the CS4398's in my modded sacd 1000 are delta-sigma dacs and as anyone who has heard it can attest it sounds anything but icky . As with most things in audio I think piss poor implementation has a lot to do with the negative talk you hear about them.
  10. I've thought about getting into vinyl a few times of the past year or so but everytime I think about I realize the monetary and time costs for me are just not worth it. I don't want to spend hours and hours searching for cheap vinyl and would probably end up getting fed up with that and just buying everything new which would in most cases cost 2-3 times the price of the CD. That and all the hassles of keeping the records clean and making sure the table is setup right outweigh any positives that could come from better sound quality.
  11. Well hit it with a fucking hammer then
  12. From the specs it looks pretty good, and I've really been liking the pcm1704 dac lately. Thats what is in my Opus 21...
  13. I have heard the hf-1s and they are a nice deal for their original price, but I sure as heck wouldn't pay $400 let alone $900. Hopefully this was just a joke, otherwise the guy is completely insane.
  14. Here's a few pics of the adapter: 6bl7gta vs adapter 5687 vs adapter
  15. Well the soundstage is larger compared to the 5687s but that was expected. So far they sound pretty nice . Btw I'll take some close-up shots of the adapters later today as I know you wanted some detailed pics of them.
  16. And you guys thought the slam looked funny with just the plitron..... Those are the 9-pin to octal socket adapters with GE 6bl7gta's.
  17. The DAC-60 has interested me for awhile, maybe one of these days I'll check it out.
  18. For the more technically inclined members... how would something like this be: This for Voltage Regulation http://www.tripplite.com/products/product.cfm?productID=208 and this for an Isolation transformer http://www.tripplite.com/products/product.cfm?productID=231 I can get both for under $400.
  19. Lucky you . The speaker bug bit me pretty hard, I went from GMA Europas and a Parasound A23 to Tyler Acoustic Linbrook Sigs and the PrimaLuna Prologue Six monoblocks in a period of like 4 months
  20. You need to get into speakers first, the bunnies demand it
  21. God I hate the power in my house, it's been hot out the past few days so all the neighborhood AC's are going strong. According to the UPS on my PC its input voltage is a whopping 102 right now
  22. Voltage and current bias need to be bumped up a bit . Oh yeah and some 5687-octal socket adapters so you can pop in some 6bl7's.
