What is your current project, or what will be your next project?
JBLoudG20 replied to JBLoudG20's topic in Do It Yourself
At the moment, I am designing a new delayed turn-on circuit. I like AMB's design for the epsilon 12, but I have my own gripes about it: 1. its relatively expensive: (read: I am a cheapass) 2. I do not like how if you do not have the values correctly chosen, the thing can turn off on you during listening (or that is how I have read it, I could be mistaken) The good things though: 1. Great headphone protection from turn on surges, and even DC offset. 2. Fantastic documentation (as is par with AMB) Why I want a new circuit: I ONLY want a timed delay. Something that will be used maintly for hybrid tube designs, to switch a relay after 30 or so seconds.(or a normal tube design, if the user is willing to build an extra PSU for it). I'm looking for it to just wait a specified time, then switch the relay and keep it on. It will not prevent any turn off-pop, but will wait for the tube to warm up sufficiently for the power on surge to go away. Also, I want it cheap. Like under $10 cheap. I have a hard time justifying a $50 time delay circuit for a $30 YAHA amp or a $50 SOHA, which is the main aim for this circuit. Also, it give me something fun to do and play with (which is also a big motivator here). At the moment, I have come up with a rough design using a 555 timer,4 resistors,2 caps, 1 7812 regulator, 1 diode, 1 2n2906 PNP transistor and a DPDT relay ( I do like the specs on the one AMP used, and I might use it, depending on the final cost). I'm going to see what I have on hand to prototype, an dhopefully be able to incorporate this into my upcoming SOHA build. -
σ11 - single rail regulated all discrete power supply
JBLoudG20 replied to n_maher's topic in Do It Yourself
Yeah I thought you mean the THREAD. If I actually come to build it, I have a few 637's. They are SOIC, so I'll browndog them to use for the L&R and probably get the 8610 on the ground channel. -

Larger heatsink for the M^3 or for the thread? -

Damn I wish I had a bigger budget to work with. I'll probably go with a wallwart until I can afford to srop that kind of cash on a new PSU. Thanks for the info! -

Nate, May I ask which model Hammond you used? Also did you use the small reccomended Avemco transformer that AMB suggests? Also, do you have a ballapark cost as compared to the STEPS. I'm debating which one to build if/when I build an M^3. -
Why is the Wheatfield so hard on tubes?

When I had my 6SN7 -> 6AS7G amp, I was a big fan of the Tung-Sol 6080. -
909 hit it right on the head. You come in here, asking for our informed opinions.. then tell us that we don't actually know anyhting because head-fi and stereophile don't agree with us. (I use 'us' because many people here share similar opinions about gear, especially when it comes to amplifiers) The beauty of this place, is there isn't marketing hype, uninformed opinion, or alterior motives. you will get a clean, clear, relatively unbiased opinion about gear. You WIL NOT get that from sterophile. You think they really care about the accurateness of the review? It's all about the bottom line, and giving a product a poor review will likely mean less revenue from advertisement. Also in this game you get VERY biased opinion from the uninformed. At head-fi, newbs run rampant. They don't knwo what is going on, and they are fed the load of 'hey RSA and ALO will give you the bes sound ever'. they go drop $1000 on this gear, and convince themselves it is good. Is it? Hell they may think so, but that doesn't mean that my $60 PINT doesn't run circles around the Hornet all day long. But they spent what $350 on the hornet? They aren't going to sit there and say, "yeah this PINT is so much better". After spending that kind of cash, they will defend it to the death. IIRC there was a thread on there (might have been started by Filburt, which is why its likely gone) saying exactly that: the hornet isnt good and much better can be had for less. It turned into a shit show because of all the fanboys. Of course JUDE came along to clean things up and restore Ray's reputation so noone would be the wiser. I suggested you go to head-fi because you seem to want to believe the masses, not the actual truth. If you take that to heart and want to leave, hey be my guest. I am only suggesting that you objectively look at this hobby for YOURSELF. And if you do decide to leave, take this parting gift: A B52 killer can fairly easily be built for less than $1000.

Me thinks you should be on head-fi asking this instead of here.

I would have SWORN Xand1X was the expert on that.

I think there ARE warnings in the documentation.

Those pictures are old, correct? In the bottom left you can see a GS1000.

Secret of Mana is one of the best games ever. It still fetches some serious money on Ebay, though I'll never part with my copy.

So far I'm loving it. Great sound, and at $125 I can't say it cost me a lot. The speakers are mmmtastic. Ken, I am a Computer Engineering Student, so I actually make use of the scope for educational purposes, as well as for testing amps I build. Also gotta love my typos in the first post. It's (obviously) an MSB Digital Link III.

This was linked from /. http://www.cepro.com/news/editorial/18229.html Kinda obvious, but hey maybe other will begin to take notice?

Ah yeah I forgot Sorry.

I figured Par metal was out of the question. I don't think I want to spend that much on the case. The Hammond I looked into, shouldcost me about $40 with the botton. Just thought I would see if there was any other options. Thanks.

I am looking for a nice metal enclosure for a summer tube amp project. The requirements: Size: Approx 12 X 12 X 3. This is a bit flexible, and it can be oddlong as well. Material: Metal Color: I would prefer black Cost: I'd like to keep it about $50-$75. more toward the low end, though.

Wouldn't you have to die, then go to hell?
