AKG K340 comparisons needed
Well, I am looking for a new set of headphones. There is a modded set currently for sale, based on various impressions I am interested. My favorite cans have always been the HP-1000's and L3000's. I have also owned and enjoyed the Senns 600 and 650's, RS-1's both new and vintage stock, PS-1's. Would love to hear all of your thoughts on the K340's and how they compare to what I am familiar with.

the iPod as a reference source?
Arrrg...you've won this round...

So, my amp sort of had a makeover. :D
Dude its a sky hook, that was his signature move. Kind of like Jordan's reverse lay-ups.

the iPod as a reference source?
Even to a skeptic, the difference in sound for 200 or so bucks is at least on the same level as a power cord or sheets of ERS paper.

New lower THD opamps?
opamps as is already have low amount of measured distortion. One more exponent to the 10th power shouldnt be anything more.

Any poker players out there?
Cool - my buddies play a tourney about once a month, 10-20 buy in. Played a lot when I was in vegas, just low limit stuff at 2/4 and 3/6. Have been playing online a lot as well.

No longer IP banned from head-fi
Yup. Pretty much. I cannot live without my daily head-fi fix. Can you? ...oh wait...I forgot
-
No longer IP banned from head-fi
Nope just don't feel like sharing it with you, that's all
-
No longer IP banned from head-fi
Nope, got a courtesy warning. I know we like to spew conspiracy again and again about headfi, unfortunately in this scenario I had future warnings before banning and a factual, objective toned message after banning. No not really
-
No longer IP banned from head-fi
yup - I got a PM message afterwards and when I try to post or reply a warning pops up with the reason. It's all good, if anything I feel I am closer to being a true headcaser now.

No longer IP banned from head-fi
yup "forum guest" is basically a euphemism for "temporarily banned" - you still have access to the boards, private messaging, but cannot reply to, create threads, or search threads.

Do I set out looking for an R10?
I would highly suggest listening to a R10 before splunking down the cash. Its either hit or miss for listeners. Some really love the sound, some abhor it. If your okay with taking a shot and reselling, you shouldnt lose much, if any. The sony sound is a bit on the brighter side. Not as bad as the CD3000's or SA5000's, as the midrange can be quite warm and enticing. The soundstage, while huge, is somewhat artificial, as you will find every song will have that huge cavernous feeling to it. If your okay with leaner bass then so be it.

When do you consider an amp "high end"
True - you can ask him to do a HD2, like what he made for JP #'s

When do you consider an amp "high end"
Umm...yeah, B-52, duh

Chicago Meet - June 23rd
No I didn't, why? because I'm an idiot. Too buys running around, I literally had maybe 30 minutes of total listening time

Thinking about getting an L3000...
the W5000 is definitely more fatiguing in the short term than the L3000. I can listen to th L3000 long term and not get annoyed, a miracle indeed. Seriously, its a great can, and I would love to have on if I could afford it.

Chicago Meet - June 23rd
Its okay. I got to hear a week before at Chris' place. Wasn't really anything special, my little EC/SS had more drive and opened things up more. The Krell was kind of bland sounding. It's rare though

Clever Little Clocks
I have noticed that Comcast and DirectTv impart their own sonic signature. DirectTv has a very light, airy sound. Comcast is more extended at the frequency extremes with more weight. There is more there there
-
Clever Little Clocks
I think it just hit me what they do. You call them, then for 30 seconds they blast some electromagnetic interference buzzing signal through your phone, that is supposed to remove any EMI from your surrounding electronics. Then your soundstage opens up, hahahahaha suckers

Why are there no high-end transformer-coupled tube headphone amps?
Actually, yes. Most people just don't admit it. Nothing wrong with having great sound and killer looks you dig. You don't have to choose from the hot ass blonde or the smart funny chick. Plenty of hot blonde smart funny as hell chicks out there

Why are there no high-end transformer-coupled tube headphone amps?
Yeah i believe the iron is all lundahl. Not cheap thats for sure. I think 600 is conversative considering it has its outputs and inputs transformer coupled. The best iron isnt cheap, thats for sure. My moth s2a3 uses electra-print iron, TM3kB, each transformer potted is about $200. Tango iron can run you from 250-400 per trannie considering they are out of production. There's a sweet deal for a pair electraprint trannies 15k:300 ohms parafeed on audio circle for $100 if anyone is interested. Might make a cool project.
